ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Medi-chan, your hair is so fluffy and cute!”
The day after we repelled the bandits Kia and Imelda. In my home, two girls were frolicking together. One was, of course, Medi. She had a pink bob and an adorable, beautiful face. The other girl stood behind her, enviously stroking the hair of the girl sitting in the chair. Her slender, white fingers were decorated with manicured nails.
“Nyu-chan’s hair is pretty too.”
“Ehh, you think so? I’m so happy.”
She was a beautiful girl around the same age as Medi. However, since she was originally a monster, her actual age was unknown. Her name was Nyu. She was a new beauty I had created by using “Character Creation” to transform that Roper who had become friends with Medi. I named her Nyu because she used to cry out “Unyu-nyu” all the time.
To put it simply, her appearance was that of a “Jirai-kei” girl who looked great with a frilly headband and long black hair. Her dark-eyed gaze was accentuated with perfect makeup, but her original features were so good that the makeup didn’t overpower her. (Well, I was the one who made her.)
The only remnants of her time as a Roper were the silhouette of her hairstyle—no, wait, there was one more thing. Two ribbons extended from the waist of the frilly maid outfit she wore. Those were her tentacles. She used those ribbons, which she could move at will, to touch Medi’s hair.
“I feel such a connection~. You know, I’ve always admired ‘Medusa-sama.’ Because of the whole tentacle-like vibe?”
(Ah, I see.)
The Roper’s tentacles and the Medusa’s snake-hair. They certainly did have something in common. But now that she had become a beautiful girl, they were completely different types. It wasn’t just their faces. There was Medi, with her healthily erotic physique, and Nyu, who was slender yet radiated a strange sensuality.
“But you know? It would be presumptuous for a low-ranking grunt like me to get close to Medusa-sama, right? Besides, if our eyes met, I’d turn to stone~.”
“Medi can make it so you don’t turn to stone now! I learned how! Thanks to Alto-sama!”
“Mhm, mhm. I’m really grateful to Alto-sama. For making me so cute too ☆ Right?”
She spoke in a voice like a ringing bell and gave me a wink.
“I just match things to each individual’s personality.”
Of course, there were parts I designed intentionally. Like Oboro’s fox ears or the silhouette of Nyu’s hairstyle. But basically—
“I just follow my instinct.”
“Wow, so you’re the intuitive type? I’m down with that ☆”
I didn’t quite know what she was “down with.” However, even with such a flighty personality, she hit it off perfectly with Medi.
“I wish Nyu could live here too…”
Medi pouted her lips.
“Sorry, okay? I’m just not cut out for living with people.”
Originally, Ropers were monsters that didn’t form packs and lived quietly in the corners of dungeons. Perhaps due to that habit, even after becoming a beautiful girl, Nyu desired to live alone.
So, I built a small room for Nyu a short distance away from here. While this house was a spacious detached home, Nyu’s dwelling had a layout like a cramped one-room apartment. Inside, I had packed it tight with a frilly bed that matched her look and a princess-style wardrobe, just as she had requested.
“Besides, if I slept with Alto-sama…”
“Hmm?”
“I’d end up attacking you with these tentacles until Alto-sama couldn’t even stand up anymore ☆”
“Don’t give me that ‘sparkle’ look.”
Nyu could change the form of her ribbon-like tentacles at will. She could turn them back into the same slime-covered tentacles they were before. Well, even if I were attacked, a Roper was only “Copper Rank.” I’d certainly put up a fight.
“But still, if Alto-sama ever feels like it, come over to my place anytime, okay? I’ll split into about four versions of myself and we’ll all make a total mess of you ☆ I’ll lay so many eggs for you. Okay? ☆”
“I told you, don’t give me that (☆) look.”
Because it was terrifying. While being worshipped like Oboro did was a bit stifling in its own way, I really wanted to be spared from being attacked. Being swarmed and attacked by Jirai-kei beauties until I was a gooey mess…
(There’s… th-there’s no way I’d ever want that, okay???)
“Well then, Alto-sama, Medi. I’ll come by again. Bye-bye!”
Waving both her tentacles and her hands, Nyu started heading back to her room. But just as she exited the front door, she came right back in.
“Alto-sama. Some strange people are here.”
“Strange people?”
When I stepped outside, a swarm of monsters had crowded around before I knew it. It was all one species of monster. They were short, with tiny, “two-head-tall” proportions. Some had snow-white beards like old men, and some looked like girls. These were Gnomes. Their rank was “Silver.”
They weren’t ferocious at all. They were closer to a subspecies of fairy than a monster. It was a group of about thirty Gnomes. The girl-like Gnome standing at the front took one more step forward. Then, she brandished a tiny fist and appealed to me.
“Muu!”
“?”
“Muuuuu!!”
(Seriously, I have no idea what you’re saying.)

Chapter 28: That Kind of Thing… and This Too?
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
A group of Gnomes had crowded in front of my house. They were clearly appealing for something, but I couldn’t understand a word they were saying. So, I turned to the girl-like Gnome at the front.
“《Character Creation》.”
But as I began my work…
“Oh. Are we doing this now? I think I’ll head back for a bit. See you later, Medi-chan~”
New, the Roper, left with a smile.
(Well, whatever.)
I finished the job in a few hours. The new beauty felt like a tiny class representative. She had her hair in twin buns. Her eyes were slightly downturned, but her eyebrows were sharply angled, showing a strong will. She wore a green tracksuit with the sleeves rolled up, had a modest bust, and a whistle hanging from her neck.
I set her height to 140cm, shorter than Medi. Still, since the original Gnomes were about 30cm smaller than that, she stood out among the group. Lastly, though it wasn’t much of an “equipment” piece, I gave her an Orichalcum shovel. Somehow, it suited her perfectly.
“Ohh, what is this? This is very fine work, Dungeon Master!”
I was glad to see she was pleased.
“As for your name…”
If I recalled correctly, Gnomes were spirits that governed the earth, right? They were also known to settle in mines—
“Then, I’ll call you Mine.”
“Mine… that is a wonderful name!”
“So, what did you come here for?”
“That’s right! We have come to protest!”
She declared this with the air of a class rep rounding up her classmates, and the Gnomes behind her—who looked a bit tired of waiting—responded with a collective “Muu!”
“A protest against my dungeon management?”
“Yes, it is about our work!”
“Your work…?”
In the original game, monsters were broadly categorized by roles.
Medi, for example, was a pure combat type. She eliminated invading female adventurers through strength or petrified them to take them out of the fight. Oboro and the Ropers were also this type, though their combat methods differed. And in the original game, they would put the intruders through all sorts of lewd ordeals.
On the other hand, Gnomes were a support type that helped with dungeon construction and trap placement. If the Dungeon Master gave an order, they would build it exactly as instructed. Monsters also had stamina. In combat, they would fall if their health was depleted, and in construction, they would collapse if the workload exceeded their limits. In battle, they would die if given a finishing blow, and if they collapsed from work, it would take time for them to recover. Therefore, one had to be careful not to overwork them.
“I haven’t been pushing you that hard, have I?”
Actually, so far, I had handled all the dungeon construction myself using 《Create》. Whether it was the traps for the village girl or the defense against Kia and Imelda.
“That is exactly it!!”
“That?”
“We want to work!!”
“!? You want to work… you say…!?”
I couldn’t believe my ears. But Mine and the others seemed dead serious.
“Yes. If we do not have work, we will die! We want to work hard and break a sweat!!”
I was speechless.
(Seriously? Aren’t humans creatures that want to work as little as possible? Oh, right, they’re monsters.)
“Dungeon Master, you do everything yourself, but if you give us orders, we will do anything!”
“Anything?”
“Yes, anything!!”
“……Even this, that, or the other thing?”
“? Yes!”
(Please don’t look back at me with such pure, innocent eyes; it makes my heart ache.)
“Would ‘Take a rest’ work instead?”
“We cannot accept that!”
“Then it’s not ‘anything,’ is it?”
(Is it just my imagination, or am I the one being childish here? Still, I see.)
I never expected a protest like this.
In the game, even if you used 《Create》, you couldn’t work on multiple locations at once, so you had to leave areas you weren’t personally attending to the support monsters like Gnomes. However, since coming here, my 《Create》 skill had been in top form. Remodeling the dungeon or setting traps could be done in an instant.
“No matter how much of a Dungeon Master you are, surely you cannot attend to every single corner yourself?”
“Well, actually… watch this.”
I activated 《Create》. First, I turned around and changed the exterior of the house, while saying:
“The truth is, I’ve become able to do things like this now.”
With a swift flick of my finger, I created a brand-new passageway in the wall behind the group of Gnomes.
“Whaaat!?”
“I can work on things simultaneously. I couldn’t do that in the game, though.”
“Uuuuh… no… such a thing… our jobs… our labor…”
So, honestly, I was happy to let the Gnomes take it easy. But apparently, that was actually causing them stress. Mine looked dejected, and the Gnomes behind her hung their heads in a similar fashion.
Hmm, as a Dungeon Master, I wanted to keep their satisfaction levels up. It wasn’t like there was a “likability” system or anything (probably). But during my time as a prince, I saw nothing but royalty and nobles who neglected the happiness of their people. I didn’t want to become like them.
“All right. Then, here is a proposal.”
“―?”
Mine and the others looked up. I made a declaration to them.
“Let’s build a city here.”
