The four of us used movement magic to chase after the masked man and it didn’t take long before we caught him and cornered him at the edge of an alley. 

“Do you really think you can escape that easily after doing something like that to the Elf kingdom?”

“Tch..! If that human man over there weren’t around, those adventurers I hired would’ve already destroyed the giant tree… Everything would’ve gone according to plan..!”

The masked man said while glaring at me. Adventurers… 

“Could it be… You were the one that hired Zayn-san and the others?”

I asked but the masked man refused to answer my question. Meria-san was the one who responded to my question.

“That’s right. I’ve asked Zayn’s party members and the description of the man who contacted them fits this guy perfectly. Of course, I still can’t forgive them for trying to destroy the Elf Kingdom, even though they were lured by this masked man… Well, I’ve already beaten them enough to appease my anger for today, so next….”

Meria-san said as she glanced at the masked man. Empress-san, who had been watching the exchange from the sideline, finally said.

Cutting off the man’s words, Meria-san instantly froze his entire body with ice magic. She quickly thawed the man’s body with fire magic and the masked man seemed to be struggling to catch his breath in panic.

“Empress-chan, let me ask you again. Is it okay for me to do whatever I want with this guy?”

“Yeah, go ahead.  I have no obligation to protect a demon who acted on his own judgment and tried to make many lives suffer. There’s no way I could stop you from seeking your vengeance since you’re an elf… However, I also need to punish him myself.”

Empress-san said as she glared sharply at the masked man. After getting Empress-san’s approval, Meria-san turned to Lydia-san and said. 

“Alright. Lydia-chan, I can punish him for trying to launch a surprise attack on Liam-kun. So, can you go back to the inn with Liam-kun? You see, I’m going to make this guy scream so bad and I don’t think it’s okay to let Liam-kun hear this guy’s scream.”

“Hii…!”

The masked man shrieked in horror from behind his mask. 

Meria-san is going to make this guy scream and it won’t be okay to let me hear that scream…?”

“Meria-san, what do you mean by that—”

“Unfortunately, I can’t punish him myself, but yes. It’s best if I leave the rest to the two of you. Now then. Liam-san, shall we head back to the inn first?”

‘Huh…? O-Okay…”

Although I still didn’t quite understand what Meria-san was talking about, but I decided it would be best to follow along with their words and returned to the inn first with Lydia-san.

“Liam-san, please wait.”

Lydia-san’s voice stopped me. I turned around to face her. 

“What’s the matter, Lydia-san?”

“I’m sorry, but please follow me. I promise, it won’t take long.”

“…Okay.”

Although I didn’t quite understand what she wanted to do, but I decided to just follow her as she asked for now. 

A few minutes later…

“This place is…”

“Yes. It’s another inn. Let’s go in.”

She brought me to another inn.. I truly had no idea why she was taking me to another inn, but we entered the inn together anyway. Lydia-san approached the front desk and asked for a single room for a few hours. After we completed the check-in procedure, Lydia-san received the key from the receptionist. 

“Let’s head to the room written on this key.”

“Alright.”

I still didn’t understand why she only asked for a single room and wanted to borrow the room for a few hours, but I decided to trust Lydia-san and headed toward the room with her.

Various questions popped in my mind as we both entered the room. Then, Lydia-san said to me. 

“I’m sure you must be feeling quite confused right now, Liam-san. I called you here because of the things I mentioned earlier. I told you, didn’t I? That I have something I want to discuss with you tonight.”

“Of course, I remember what you said… But why did we have to rent another room instead of just staying in the one we had already rented?”

We were planning to stay in the Demon Kingdom for a long time, so the room in the previous inn was still ours to use. If Lydia-san wanted to have a conversation with me, we could’ve just done it there.

Lydia-san suggested. Following her lead, I sat next to her on the bed. Then, Lydia-san began speaking.

As she said so, Lydia-san grasped my right hand with both of her hands and spoke firmly.

After hearing Lydia-san’s words, before my brain could process the words, my body was already pulling her into a strong embrace subconsciously. Yes. Nodding at Lydia-san’s invitation as she spread her arms wide, I moved closer to her. My heart was overflowing with emotions.
