“UWAGHHHH!!”
Zayn was subjected to an onslaught of lightning magic for a while. He continued to scream until eventually, the Empress stopped attacking him. His screaming voice finally quieted down. Then, the Empress said to him.
“I mentioned I would give you your just punishment, but it’s rather dull to keep attacking from a distance like this. Besides, since you are daring enough to insult other warriors… It’s possible that you are ‘strong’ enough to insult other warriors who fight in close combat too. In that case, I should engage you in close combat this time.”
“Ugh… Shit…”
Perhaps, this was the Empress’ intention from the start. Zayn was able to move his body to some extent now. He then slowly stood up and said to the empress.
“How dare you humiliate me like this… I will make you regret ever underestimating me…”
“Oh? That doesn’t seem right coming from someone who was screaming in pain just a moment ago. Ah, I knew it. You ARE confident in close combat.”
“I WILL GIVE YOU A TASTE OF WHAT I GOT!! FEEL THE PAIN FROM MY FISTS!”
Zayn shouted as he charged at the Empress. He channeled all his magic power into both fists and began hitting the Empress. But the Empress easily parried his attacks with her ice sword without moving an inch. Then, the Empress said again. She seemed a bit exasperated now.
“Good grief. You don’t even deserve to say your body is still sluggish from being attacked by my lightning magic. All of your movements are all off. You can’t even do the most basic movement right. Even if you were able to weaken me with that liquid, there’s no way you would be able to defeat me with an attack of this caliber.”
The Empress said while Zayn was still busy throwing punches at her. He then shouted back with anger written all over his face.
“Shut up!! I’m the man who will become the hero of the demon race!! Don’t get in my way!!”
“You? The hero of the demon race…? What a funny joke.”
“…If I can take you down, I will be able to beat that guy to pulp and then, I will beat that guy too! I will be able to beat all those annoying fools to the ground! Now just stay still and let me hit you!”
“My apologies, but if I let myself get hit by such a slow and weak fist, I will be a laughing stock to everyone. I won’t be able to show my face to the warriors who have fought me gallantly until now. And so… I believe it’s time to end this.”
With a sharp glare, the Empress deflected Zayn’s hands with her ice sword, leaving him defenseless. Then, she slashed him through his armor swiftly.
“ARGHHHHHH!!”
The impact sent him flying and Zayn crashed against the arena wall. The combined force of the slash and the collision caused him to lose consciousness. Zayn then collapsed to the ground.
“How anticlimactic… Never insult those honorable warriors ever again.”
The Empress then dispelled the magic power in her hand. The disappearance of the ice sword signaled the conclusion of the battle. The arena immediately erupted into cheers. Zayn was carried away by the arena staff into the building. However, the Empress had already moved on from Zayn. Her thoughts were now focused on her next opponent, Liam. She turned her gaze toward Liam, who was sitting in the audience corner. Then, with a confident voice, she said.
“Come down here, Liam… Let’s fight.”
“…Yes!”
Liam nodded and replied in a loud voice so the Empress could hear him. He stood up from his seat and made his way to the center of the arena, where the Empress stood.
“You’re the first man who has ever pressured me just by standing there. Fufu… For the first time in a long while, I can finally feel the thrill of battle welling up inside of me. The fighting spirit inside of me is screaming in joy just by looking at you.”
The Empress muttered to herself with a small smile. He then focused her mind on the long-dormant, yet unmistakable, fighting spirit in herself as she waited for Liam to reach the center of the arena.

I finally reached the center of the arena and stood face to face with Empress-san, who had been waiting for me. She then said to me.
“Liam… I think… I’ve been waiting for a long time to fight someone like you like this. Even though you’re just standing there like that, but I can tell that you’re an amazing warrior, unlike anyone I’ve ever met.”
“Me too… I think this might be the first time I’ve ever stood against someone as powerful as you, Empress-san.”
Although Lydia-san and Meria-san were both just as powerful as Empress-san, but I’ve never stood against them in battle like this.
“I see… There’s so much I’d like to talk about with you, but I believe words won’t be necessary for us. Liam…. Show me your strength.”
“…!! Yes!!”
Right after that, lightning magic struck between us, signaling the start of our fight.

“So in summary, you stole Liam’s achievements and exploited his power to complete quests. This resulted in you achieving A-rank status and you also hoarded most of the quest rewards to yourselves. Now that you guys weren’t struggling financially anymore, you decided to expel the kind-hearted Liam-san just because you didn’t like his personality.”
“And then, a suspicious man with a long hat and a mask that covered his face came to you. He was dressed in a tuxedo, likely a demon. He offered you money in exchange for destroying the giant tree in the Elf Kingdom. You agreed because you thought once the Elf Kingdom was destroyed, not only would you get the money, but you would also become the hero of the demon race. You believed becoming the hero of the demon race would help you in taking your revenge on me.”
Lydia and Meria summarized the information they had extorted from them. Radd, feeling flustered, replied hastily.
“Y-yeah! That’s right! Right, Bella?”
“Y-yes! We’ve told you everything we know! Everything!”
“…I see.”
“…I see, indeed.”
Lydia and Meria said again. Radd, seeing their satisfied expressions, let out a sigh of relief. While trying to gauge their mood, he said cautiously.
“H-Hey… We’ve told you everything we know, so… You will let us go, right? I mean, there’s nothing more we can give you anyway, right?”
“That is true.”
“Yeah.”
“The-Then…”
Belal’s face brightened upon hearing that, but before she could finish her sentence, Lydia already drew her sword. Lydia exuded a terrifying air, while Meria unleashed powerful magic power from her body.
“But you know~ Considering what you’ve done all these time, there’s no way we can forgive you just like that, right?”
“Wha-!?”
“On behalf of the kind and pure Liam-san, I’ll cut you both down.”
“Wa-Wait—!! Aaahhhh!!”
“Uwaaaaahhh!!”
Filled with anger, Lydia and Meria mercilessly unleashed all of their pent-up fury upon Bella and Radd. For all the things they had done to Liam and for their attempted destruction of the Elf Kingdom.. Lydia and Meria attacked them relentlessly, ensuring that these two people would never think of doing something so heinous again.
After Bella and Radd lost consciousness, Lydia and Meria hurriedly made their way toward the spectator seats. They were talking to each other on their way to their seats.
“The fight between Empress-chan and their leader should be over by now, right? But why we haven’t heard the starting signal from the lightning spell yet?”
“Indeed. I didn’t hear any signal either.”
“Right?! Besides, I didn’t sense any lightning magic being used either! That means the fight hasn’t started yet! Ugh, it’d be the worst if we missed even a second of Liam-kun’s fight!”
“I completely agree with you there.”
They eventually reached the spectator seats. They turned their gaze toward the center of the arena, where Liam and the Empress stood, facing each other. The battle was about to start.
“It looks like we made it in time.”
“Totally!~ Liam-kuuuuuun!~ You look so cool!!”
Meria cheered, even though her voice was drowned out by the roar from the crowd. She didn’t mind though. It was the thoughts that mattered. Watching Meria beside her, Lydia also wanted to shout out. She wanted to cheer for Liam too, but…
“Liam-san… You’re so lovely. Please do your best.”
Not the type to raise her voice in a crowd, Lydia softly murmured those words toward Liam. After the two expressed their feelings for him, lightning magic struck between Liam and the Empress, signaling the start of their battle.
◆◇◆
Just like what she had done with Zayn-san earlier, Empress-san conjured an ice sword in her left hand while her right hand was filled with sparks of lightning magic.
“Since you are my opponent, I will make the first move.”
Empress-san last said before she unleashed a powerful lightning spell toward me. I used wind magic to deflect the lightning’s path and then I fired off a flame spell at her. Empress-san raised an ice wall to black the flames, but my flames pierced through the ice wall and continued to fly straight for her.
“…!!”
Empress-san looked shocked for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure and unleashed another ice spell from her right hand to counter my flames. Her ice magic collided with my flames and the arena was filled with mist from the vapor for a moment before Empress-san blew the mist away with wind magic.
“Not only did you break my ice wall, but you also managed to pierce through it too… Fufu~ I knew it. You truly are the man I’ve been longing for all along… But, this isn’t over yet, is it? Show me more of your power, Liam.”
“Yes!!”
From then on, I continued clashing spells with Empress-san. The battle grew even more intense with each passing seconds.
