Chapter 31: Zayn, Blown Away

“Take this and drop dead, Liam!!”

Zayn shouted as he charged at Liam, but Liam calmly caught Zayn’s fist with his right hand. 

“Not yet!! I still have more!!”

Relentless, Zayn swung his other hand at Liam, but Liam once again blocked the attack with his right hand again. Feeling puzzled by Liam’s actions, Zayn stepped back to create some distance between them.

“…Why is Liam only using one hand?”

Perplexed, Zayn couldn’t stop himself from muttering that out loud. He averted his gaze and soon enough, he saw the answer to his question. Liam was channeling his magic power into the root of the giant tree with his left hand.

“I see, so you’re giving your magic power to the giant tree to heal it, right? In other words, dealing with me is not your main concern right now.”

Zayn said with a laugh before his expression turned into one of anger. Within the next moment, he lunged at Liam again.

“This nonchalant attitude of yours really gets on my nerves, Liam!!”

Submitting to his own anger, Zayn flung his fist toward Liam. But Liam once again calmly caught Zayn’s fist with just one hand. 

“….I’m not trying to sympathize with Zayn-san and the others, but… Don’t you think there’s something weird with the enhancement magic cast by Bella-san and Radd-san? I mean, I don’t think Zayn-san’s punches would be this weak after all that enhancement magic…”

“Ugh..!! Yo-You guys! Use your magic to attack Liam too!”

“O-Okay!”

“Le-Leave it to us!”

Trying to cover up his disadvantageous point with a fake bravado, Zayn told his party members to attack Liam with magic. His party members immediately followed his command, but Liam simply swatted the magic attack directed at him with his hand. He didn’t even exert any magic power. He only swatted his hand normally. 

“Bella-san and Radd-san only specialize in enhancement magic. That’s why, I don’t think there’s any point in trying to attack me with magic. You guys won’t be able to hit me with that level of magic.”

“-!! Fine! Then we will just punch you head on!! AAAAHHHHH!!”

Zayn closed the distance between him and Liam again, but this time, Liam retaliated. He unleashed a lightning attribute magic at Zayn with his right hand. Being hit by Liam’s magic at point-blank range, Zayn immediately collapsed to his knees. Then, his feet were frozen by Liam, leaving him unable to move. 

“Zayn!”

“Thi-This is bad…!”

Even after hearing the anxiety in his party members’ voice, Zayn still refused to give up. He tried to punch the ice at his feet with his magic infused fist, but far from shattering, his fist was the one feeling pain from colliding with the ice. Yes. The ice remained unscathed while Zayn’s fist was getting red from the pain. 

“Darn it..!!”

If he couldn’t move, Zyan wouldn’t be able to execute the plan he mad meticulously crafted in his mind. He was thinking of pretending to be on the verge of death and launched a surprise attack, just like before. Zayn’s frustration at being rendered utterly powerless became evident. Liam looked down at him and spoke. Liam’s voice was laced with sadness.

“..Why do you even want to destroy the Elf Kingdom? You do realize the elves living in this country will be in great trouble if you destroy the Elf Kingdom, right? You’re going to make countless people feel sad.”

“I already told you before, didn’t I? It’s all so I can become a hero…! Besides, who cares about the elves? I don’t even know them. They have nothing to do with me. I genuinely don’t give a damn if they’re feeling sad. Ah, right. Your companion, the Great Mage… She had beaten me to pulp before. She’s an elf, right? All elves would surely be heartbroken if we destroy the giant tree! Once that happens, I’m going to give Liam and the others a good beating!”

Just when Zayn was about to say “Now all that’s left is to unleash all of our magic attack on the roots of the giant tree,” he suddenly felt an unprecedented pressure of magic power. The source of that pressure was none but Liam, who was shedding tears from both eyes.

“Huh? Are you going to surrender now—”

“Please, just disappear.”

The moment Liam said that, Zayn’s whole vision turned completely white. To be precise, it wasn’t completely white. There were spots that seemed to change. Indeed. His field of vision was changing rapidly, so much so it seemed like his whole vision was turning white. Zayn didn’t really understand what was happening, but after a moment, he finally realized…

“KYAHHHHHHH!!”

“WAHHHHHHH!!”

All three of them were blown away at incredible speed that made it impossible for their eyes to catch up with their surroundings thanks to Liam’s wind magic. They flew into the air while letting out deathly screams. Moreover, the pressure of the wind made them unable to move even a single finger. They continued to be blown away by the wind for some time, even after they crossed the borders of the Elf Kingdom.
