The Engagement of the Baron of Flowers and the Withered Tree Lady.
Chapter 68 Julia and her new roommate
In a short time, Ramey and Julia had become fast friends. This was likely because Ramey was close in age to Viola and Sharie, and like Julia, she didn’t put on the airs of a typical noblewoman.
Julia, in particular, felt as if Ramey were like an older sister, despite having just met her. Julia, who was more reliable than her delicate appearance suggested, had lived her life without leaning on or relying on others. If she had cried out for help and clung to someone, Ruffie might have been troubled and suggested something to Earl Woodcliff. However, having been in a harsh environment from a young age, Julia didn’t know how to rely on others.
Despite having just met, Julia felt a strange sense of empathy towards Ramey and felt an urge to rely on her. Perhaps it was the comfort of being with someone of the same gender and a fellow spirit user. The mere thought of being able to talk and consult freely about secrets she had never been able to share with anyone was incredibly joyful.
Ramey was studying at a veterinary school on the outskirts of the royal capital. She commuted by carriage from the townhouse of her fiancé, the Baron Larsson, located near the capital. The journey took an hour each way. Although the school had dormitories for students from all over the country, it wasn’t appropriate for Ramey, a noblewoman, to stay in a dorm full of rough male students.
From the perspective of the Larsson family, it was only natural to accommodate her this way. After all, they were gaining a valuable “Yellow Spirit User” who would also become a qualified veterinarian. If her secret were discovered, there was no telling who might try to steal her away.
The Plant Baron’s townhouse was also on the outskirts of the royal capital, not far from the veterinary school—about twenty minutes one way. However, it would be difficult for Ramey to stop by there after school regularly, no matter how much it was for a lady’s education. Returning to the Larsson Baron’s house late at night would be too dangerous and exhausting.
Initially, the plan was for Ramey to visit the Plant Baron’s house once every two weeks on weekends, and to communicate as frequently as possible through letters in the meantime. However, Julia’s suggestion changed this plan.
“When the special forces’ work settles down, please come together, and let’s practice dancing. It seems Lord Romand also has a bit of a challenge with dancing,” Julia said.
When she said this, Ramey looked into the distance.
“Will such a day really come? Even though we live in the same mansion, we rarely see each other and communicate through letters. Today was the first time we’ve spoken in ages. We haven’t even had a proper date, not even during long school holidays,” Ramey murmured.
Julia smiled warmly and said, “It will be fine. My father promised to change the work environment so that we can have more family time. If he doesn’t keep that promise, I’ll cut ties with him.”
At that moment, the butler Hyde interjected, “Why doesn’t Lady Ramey just live here at the Plant Baron’s residence? It only takes about twenty minutes by carriage to the veterinary school, so it would save time. You could use that extra time for your lady’s education and spirit training.”
Julia and Ramey were astonished by Hyde’s unexpected suggestion.
“Normally, it would be cruel to propose separating an engaged couple who love each other. But if you can’t even see each other while living in the same house, isn’t it just as painful to merely cohabit without interaction?”
With Hyde’s words, Ramey looked down and quietly replied, “Yes.”
“How much longer until you graduate from school?” Hyde asked.
“About six more months,” Ramey replied.
“Then it’s perfect timing. In the meantime, we can work on improving the special forces’ working conditions.”
“Isn’t it difficult to change something that has been ongoing for so long in such a short period?” Ramey questioned.
“Yes, it will be difficult. But changes like this require a strong will and must be done quickly to succeed. That’s why you need to have a strong determination to change things no matter what and push the situation to the point where there’s no way to escape. Now is the chance. If both of you, as promising young members, demand change with all your might and threaten to quit if it doesn’t happen, it will make a significant impact. Moreover, if both families threaten to decline their services to the royal court, the castle will be in a frenzy.”
The flowers of the Plant Baron family were a favorite of Her Majesty the Queen. Additionally, the Larson Baron managed the breeding and training of horses for the Royal Guard and the royal family, and there was practically no other family that could replace them.
However, Julia and Ramey were skeptical of Hyde’s words. Both wondered if their fiancés would really go to such lengths for their sake. Hyde, noticing their doubt, smiled and confidently said:
“Rest assured, your fiancés will desperately push for reform.”
What they didn’t know was what Hyde murmured to himself in his mind:
‘There’s nothing more painful for young men than being denied their desires. Especially if they fear losing the favor of such distinguished young ladies. That thought alone would terrify them.’
Hyde’s proposal was quickly accepted by everyone and put into action immediately.
“If Lady Ramey wishes to marry as soon as she graduates, taking her time with lady’s education might not suffice. It would be more efficient for her to live here with Lady Julia and learn together,” Hyde suggested.
“If the master is too busy to train the young lady in spirit use, wouldn’t it be better for Lady Ramey to assist? The diligent young lady would be pleased to learn as quickly as possible,” he added.
With Hyde’s reasoning, they couldn’t refuse. Both Julia and Ramey thought to themselves:
‘We will definitely have our wedding within a year!’
From then on, they worked even harder to resolve their issues. As a result, within a month, Count Woodcliff ex-wife Cindy, her lover the butler Virgil Hunt, and her biological mother Maria, the second wife of Marquis Hendricks, were dealt with.
Furthermore, a month later, they managed to capture most of the ‘Black Spirit Users’ faction from the western country who were connected to them.
This capture of the ‘Black Spirit Users’ from the western country was only possible with the cooperation of Julia and Ramey.
