Chapter 8: The Two Bad Men Who Hurt Me

“I don’t know anything about a dragon or a woman. Even if I did, I would never tell scums like you two anything.”

I said so, loud and clear. I would never lose to the likes of them. 

“…You’ve got guts for a human. Alright. We will-“

“Wait. We need him to tell us her location first.”

One of the men, who was eager to pounce on me with a malicious smirk on his face, was stopped by the other. 

I didn’t know what they were planning, but I would never say any-

“ARGHHHHHHHHHH?!?!?!”

“Hm~ So even a human like you can let out a nice shriek.”

The man said, snorting and smiling cruelly. I didn’t know how, but there was a hole in my right thigh.

“Now, tell me. Where is that woman?”

One of the men pinned me to the ground while the other grabbed my right hand.

“I-I don’t know…”

Crack. 

“ARGHHHHHHHH?!?!”

Without any mercy, the man snapped my right index finger.

“Tell us where she is.”

“Who-Who would-“

Crack. 

“Argh-?!”

“Where’s that woman?”

“Who… Who knows…”

Crack. 

“-!??!?!”

Each time I refused to budge, the man broke my fingers. Starting with my middle finger, then my ring finger until all fingers on my right hand were broken. The man then grabbed my left hand. 

“You’re really a strange one. I heard humans would start crying and spill everything right away if you do this.”

“Heh…. Hahaha… Too bad… Nngh-!”

Crack. Snap. Crack. Pop. 

“ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!”

The man crushed my left hand in one go and my scream echoed through the Dark Forest. With that, both of my hands had been crushed, rendering them useless. However, the broken hands and the hole in my thigh… None of them weren’t anything serious…. I still could… Unless they killed me first…. Until then, I would still put up a resistance against them… Until my last dying breath. 

“Hehehe… You… You think you can get away with this?”

“Huh? What are you talking about?”

I said that with a smirk and the man tilted his head to the side in confusion. 

“Y-You see… Despite how I look, I’m actually the… Sixth Prince of the Hylics Empire… As proof of that… You can see the official seal in my bag…”

The man holding me down gave a signal to the other and he opened my bag, pulling out a letter. The letter had the Emperor’s official signature and the seal, confirming that I was the lord of the Dark Forest. 

“…What does it say?”

“It says… I’m the lord of this forest… The Dark Forest is under my rule…”

“This forest belong to humans? Now you’re talking nonsense.”

“Ahahaha… You’re the fools… For what you did to me… To someone like me… The Sixth Prince… The Empire will never forgive you…”

Of course, the Hylics Empire would never come to save me or take revenge against them. In fact, they would be happy to know if I were to die in the forest. But still, the fact still remained. I was the lord of the Dark Forest. The letter and the seal from the Emperor were there as evidence to that fact. All I had to do was to make these men believe that I was someone they should never lay a hand on. 

“I don’t know who you are, but… Prepare yourselves… The Empire has over a hundred thousand soldiers… They will burn this forest to the ground and… If that happens… What do you think your master will think…?”

“”….””

Judging from how they acted and the fact that they couldn’t read the letter, most likely these two men weren’t human at all. That must be the reason why they looked down on humans and it was evident from the way they behaved. But still, it was hard to believe these two men would fight that dragon alone. Someone… Someone must be behind them. I tried to provoke them to see if they would reveal anything, but it seemed I had put these men in confusion. They seemed at a loss. 

“I will tell you this… Even if you hide my body after you kill me… Your effort will be in vain… The Empire’s emissaries come here periodically… When they tell the Emperor that I had disappeared… The Empire will take action against you…”

I emphasized the threat even more, hoping I could make them think twice before killing me. Their expressions shifted. They didn’t look as confident as before. It seemed my threats were slowly getting in their heads. I had a hunch that if I threatened them enough, they would get fooled. 

“Tch… Let’s go.”

“Yeah…”

The man who had been pinning me down finally released me. The two of them then disappeared into the forest. For now, I managed to survive through this ordeal, somehow. 

“I-I need to get to the dragon soon…”

Focusing my mind to cast healing magic, my hands and right thigh were enveloped in a soft light. The healing magic quickly healed the wounds and the fractures. Just as I thought, the injuries they had inflicted on me weren’t that bad. I could heal this much with healing magic.

“I have to hurry!”

After I had healed, I immediately kicked off the ground and ran towards the dragon. But then…

“Why…”

“Huh?!”

A very beautiful woman appeared from behind the shadow of a tree.
