RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE!
Mer-san opened her mouth wide and a magic circle appeared in front of her before a jet-black breath cloaked in violet lightning burst forward from her mouth. The black breath completely obliterated the upper half of the imperial palace.
“A breath attack… So she can still use it even in human form?”
I murmured.
“Haha! That’s right! Young Master Gil might not know since we always take on our dragon form when fighting, but for us, one’s form doesn’t matter much when using a breath attack.”
“I-I see…”
Conrad-san answered my question, but the sheer magnitude of what I had just witnessed left me only capable of saying that simple response back to Conrad-san.
Mer-san… Just how wonderful you actually are? She’s so stunningly beautiful, strong and kind too. I’m truly lucky to be able to stay by the side of such an amazing woman.
“Hey, Elsa. Do you think the king is in that palace?”
“That, I cannot say. But at the very least, the trash before us… May have learned their place somewhat.”
“It seems so.”
Looking at how the palace had been turned into ruins by a single attack from Mer-san’s breath, Prince Gunther and the rest of the imperial soldiers stood there, frozen in place. Their faces pale from shock. This overwhelming display of power, far beyond anything human capable of, seemed to have finally made them realize just how hopelessly inferior they were to these two women… No. To these dragons.
“Well then, shall we begin? Since you chose to oppose me and face annihilation, I’ll end this quickly. After all, Gil-kun is watching me.”
“Ah…”
Mer-san looked up at me and smiled gently, even though I was hiding on Conrad-san’s back up above. So she noticed I was here.
“…Well, of course. For Princess-sama, sensing another dragon’s presence… Or to be precise, sensing Young Master Gil’s presence comes as natural as breathing. After all, Young Master Gil is her everything.”
Conrad-san smiled softly as he said so. It made me incredibly happy to know Mer-san thought of me that highly, but… I also felt the same.
“Me… Me too. Mer-san is my everything too.”
I whispered those words in a voice too quiet for Mer-san to hear since she was standing far below on the ground. My feelings hadn’t changed since the day she acknowledged me and it would never change. I was certain of that. Not now, not ever.
“Fufu! Gil-kun, I’m so happy! So happy!”
“Wha—!?”
Mer-san beamed at me with a radiant smile. She waved her hands enthusiastically as she shouted up to me.
She-She could hear me?!
“Hahahaha! Young Master Gil! You underestimated Princess-sama’s hearing! I bet she has been hearing every word we’ve spoken since we arrived here!”
“Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-….”
Ahhh… So embarrassing…! Of course, I didn’t tell any lies. Everything I said comes from my heart, but knowing she actually heard all of it….
“Ahhhh~ Gil-kun is truly my fated one…. My irreplaceable boy! And… This vile Hylics Kingdom… They dared to torment my precious Gil-kun for ten long years… I will erase them from the map! Yes! I will erase them completely to the ground!”
Wearing an ecstatic expression, Mer-san transformed from her beautiful human form into a massive black dragon. This was the true form of Mercedes Drake Fafnir, the sole surviving member of the most powerful dragon family. She was also my irreplaceable woman that I had met in the Dark Forest.
“R-retreat! Retreat at once!”
The once haughty Prince Gunther was now trembling with fear. He turned his horse around and ran away from the battlefield at full gallop. He was supposed to be the commander of the imperial army, leading countless soldiers, but he actually ran away with his tail tucked between his legs pathetically.
Seeing their leader running in fear, the imperial soldiers quickly realized they had been abandoned. Panicking, they scattered like spiders in every direction. Their faces etched with terror.
“Oh my… Where did all that bravado go? Weren’t you going to kill me?”
“Your Majesty Mercedes, what shall we do? If you wish, I could dissolve them all with my breath.”
“That would be entertaining, but let’s start by dragging out those who tormented Gil-kun personally and making examples of them. After all, we wouldn’t be able to tell who’s who if we kill them with your breath.”
“As you wish.”
Mer-san grinned wickedly and Elsa-san bowed respectfully. From the perspective of the empire’s people, the two of them must’ve looked absolutely terrifying. And true enough…
“A-ah… P-please, spare me…”
“I beg you! I have a wife and child! Please, forgive meeee!”
Those who could not escape, or had realized they would not make it, threw themselves to the ground, groveling and begging for their lives as they forwent all of their dignity.
“If that’s the case, I’ll give you a chance. Bring me the king, his family, and everyone in the palace who hurt and tormented my dear Gilbert Furst Hylics. Then I’ll decide whether you live or die.”
“”“Y-yes! We’ll do it!”””
Finding a glimmer of hope for survival, the soldiers scrambled toward the ruined palace. With so many soldiers surrounding what was left of the palace, anyone hiding inside must be on the verge of losing their sanity by then.
“How pitiful..”
“What’s this, Young Master Gil? Are you pitying those wretched trash?”
“…No.”
I shook my head in response to Conrad-san’s question. If I felt any sympathy for them, I wouldn’t be able to face Mer-san, who had become the enemy of humanity for my sake. Besides…
This is all something I brought upon myself.

T/N: No, no. Gilbert, this is something THEY brought upon THEMSELVES. Not you. You are the victim here (╥﹏╥)
