Chapter 48: The Black Dragon Princess and Her Maid Take Off into the Sky

“Mer-san, look! 【Flamme】!”

The next morning, I took Mer-san to the garden and immediately showcased my dragon magic to her. A fireball shot from my right hand soared high into the sky above Mount Duflussweise, lighting up the blue sky even further.

“How was it, Mer-san… Eh?! Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-?!”

“It’s amazing! It’s just too amazing! For a human to use dragon magic this perfectly… You’re the first human to accomplish this feat, Gil-kun!”

When I turned back to her with a big smile, Mer-san hugged me tightly and praised me. She looked really happy. I was surprised by the sudden hug, but being praised by the woman I liked the most was, without any doubt, the happiest thing that could happen to me. 

“Ehehe~ I’ve done my best to master it!”

“Yes! Gil-kun is such a hard worker! You’re always doing your best!”

“Ooffph-“

She hugged me even tighter, burying my face in between Mer-san’s voluptuous chest. 

“Fwah-! I-I can’t breathe!”

“Ah… Fufu~ I’m sorry. Gil-kun is just so amazing and cute. I can’t help it.”

“Geez…”

Without a hint of shame, Mer-san smiled shyly, and I found her so cute that I hugged her just as tightly.

“Mer-san, I want to learn even more dragon magic. Please teach me a lot.”

“Of course. I’ll give everything I have and make sure that Gil-kun becomes the greatest dragon magic user in history… Someone so great that no one, not even dragons, has ever seen before.”

“Yes!”

And so, I learned many kinds of dragon magic from Mer-san. Not just fire magic, but water, ice, wind, thunder, earth, light, and the dark magic that Mer-san excelled at. Mer-san directly infused my body with mana for each attribute, using my body as a medium to cast dragon magic. Thanks to that method, I was able to quickly learn the feel of dragon magic. All I had to do was memorize the incantations and practice. Mer-san kept praising me as I learned more and more dragon magic. 

“Gil-kun, you’re so amazing!”

But really, the real credit belonged to her. After all, teaching me dragon magic from every attribute meant that Mer-san herself could handle all the attributes perfectly. And so, I had mastered all the dragon magic from the book I found in the castle’s library in just less than a month. 

“Gil-kun, you’re always surprising me. To be able to use dragon magic even though you’re human… To be able to heal everything with healing magic in an instant… There’s no doubt about it. You must be a hero, Gil-kun.”

“N-No… You’re praising me too much… I’m not that amazing.”

“No. I’m just stating the facts. Gil-kun, you really have no idea how incredible you are.”

Mer-san stepped in close to emphasize her point and I could feel my face grow hot. Her beautiful face was so close that I could feel her breath, making me embarrassed and shy. I always didn’t know what to do when she was like this…

“Hou… Then Young Master Gil… Does that mean you don’t need to undergo your special magic training anymore?”

“-?!”

Conrad-san, who had been nearby, looked at me with a sparkle in his eyes. He was stroking his chin with his hand as he said so.

“Well then! Your Highness, I shall borrow Young Master Gil for a while! With just a year, I’ll make him a fine knight who can protect you from any danger!”

“Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-?!?!”

Conrad-san casually grabbed the scruff of my neck and lifted me off the ground, leaving me dangling in midair. I felt like he was treating me like a cat, but Conrad-san looked really happy. Well, he had been waiting to train me for so long after all… 

“Hmm… While the crime of stealing my time with Gil-kun is worthy of a thousand deaths, it is also hard to resist the idea of him becoming a fine knight and staying by my side…”

With her hand on her chin, Mer-san seemed to be considering her options seriously. Judging from her words, it seemed she was in favor of having me train under Conrad-san. 

“The-Then… Please take care of me, Conrad-san! I also want to become a fine man who can protect Mer-san!” 

“Haha! Of course! I, Conrad Gargouille, will drill everything I know into Young Master Gil!”

From the previous Royal Selection, I had witnessed with my own eyes how powerful Conrad-san was. His strength was unquestionable and he was one of the strongest dragons in the Dragroar Kingdom, since he could fight on equal ground against Klaus and Reiner. And now… Seeing how motivated he was to train me, I was certain I could get stronger under his tutelage. 

And also… I could incorporate the dragon magic I had learned from Mer-san in my fighting style too. 

“Alright! Let’s get started with the training!”

“Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-?!?!”

With that, Conrad-san started running energetically, dragging me off somewhere. On the other hand, Mer-san watched us leave reluctantly, but… 

What’s with that look between Mer-san, Conrad-san and Elsa-san?

The three of them were definitely hiding something from me. I knew they must be hiding it from me because they were thinking about my wellbeing, but… It still bothered me.

But then, while I was lost in thoughts…

“Huh? Mer-san and Elsa-san…”

I saw Mer-san and Elsa-san transformed into their dragon forms and took off into the sky. 

“Conrad-san.”

“What is it?”

“Where are Mer-san and Elsa-san heading off to?”

“… I don’t know.”

Conrad-san was definitely lying to me because.. He averted his gaze from me in a not-so-subtle way. 

“…Can you please tell me? Please, Conrad-san?”

“Ugh…”

I begged him for an answer and Conrad-san looked like he was torn between his options. But eventually, he gave in. 

“…Princess-sama is heading toward the human country.”

Conrad-san said calmly.
