Chapter 38: I Love How Sly You Are

“It’s simple, really. I just want everyone here to die.”

Mer-san said with a sweet smile on her face. Upon hearing that, every dragon who was kneeling before her trembled in unison. 

“Ple-Please wait! I-Isn’t that too much?! Please, I beg your mercy!”

“That’s right! I’m sure we can be useful to you, so please…! Please…!”

The dragons banged their foreheads against the floor repeatedly as they begged for mercy at the same time. They wanted to live. They didn’t want to die. 

“Ah, just to clarify. I’m not just talking about everyone here. I mean every citizen living in the Dragroar Kingdom. Yes. Everyone must die.”

“””-?!”””

It seemed that Mer-san’s declaration was beyond everyone’s expectations. Everyone present, including Conrad-san and Elsa-san, gasped in unison. 

“I mean, isn’t that the most obvious outcome? You all abandoned the Fafnir family and forced us to die. So what’s wrong with me abandoning you and forcing you all to die?”

“B-But! The common folk have nothing to do with this! Killing them as well would be going too far-“

“Silence. Who said you could speak?”

“Hii-?!”

There was only one dragon who stood up to talk, but overwhelmed by Mer-san’s intense killing intent, he collapsed right here and there while letting out a small pathetic scream. The other dragons looked like they wanted to say something too, but they were fully aware that if they dared to do so, they would be the first to get killed. So, they just clenched their fists and hung their heads down. 

Then, I noticed Conrad-san looking at me. He probably wanted me to stop Mer-san, but… I shook my head from side to side. Sure, maybe if I was the one that asked her to stop, she might not kill the dragons. However, I didn’t have the right nor the qualification to stop her. The one who had been betrayed by these dragons was Mer-san. The one who had her loved ones taken from her was Mer-san. The one who had been on the brink of death because of these dragons was Mer-san. 

All I did was meet her in the Dark Forest by chance and did what I could at that time. I couldn’t negate the hardship she had gone through and the hatred she harbored because of them. Sure, among the dragons living in this country, there might be genuinely kind people like Conrad-san and Elsa-san. There might be other people who would recognize me too, but despite that… I couldn’t tell Mer-san not to kill the dragons. No. I mustn’t say that to her. Because… I alone must absolutely be on Mer-san’s side. I wanted to be on Mer-san’s side no matter what. 

As for Conrad-san and Elsa-san, I had stopped Mer-san from killing them only because I believed their power was absolutely necessary to defeat Klaus and his entourage.

Of course, now I love the two of them second only to Mer-san, and I definitely don’t want them to die. But… If, in the future, Mer-san decides to kill them, then… Well, not like that would happen… right? After all, Mer-san is actually really kind at heart. She would never do something I don’t like. 

That’s why…

“Gil-kun?”

“Ehehe~”

I took Mer-san’s hand and smiled at her. I smiled in order to let her know that no matter what she did, I would always be by her side. I wanted her to understand that she didn’t need to worry about my feelings toward her. 

“…Very well. I was thinking of killing everyone right now, but I’ve changed my mind. I will give you all three days. Choose whether you want to die by your own hands or by my hands.”

“Huh…?”

At Mer-san’s words, I couldn’t stop myself from letting out a confused voice. 

“Well, I’m already tired from fighting in the Royal Selection with Klaus and I want to be alone with Gil-kun. Since it seems we’re not going to finish this mess anytime soon, I might as well spend my time with my precious Gil-kun. After all, I’m not going to let this incident interrupt my alone time with him.”

Mer-san scoffed before she stood up while still holding me in her arms.

“Gil-kun, since we’ve finished our business here, let’s go. There are many things I want to do with you and of course, there are many things I want to show you too.”

“Ye-Yes.”

Mer-san took my hand and we both exited the audience chamber, leaving the still dazed dragons behind. 

“Tha-That’s… It’s because of me, isn’t it…?”

Mer-san probably said those things to give time for the dragons to leave the country, thinking I would be sad if they were killed unilaterally. Three days were more than enough time for them to pack up and leave this country. She basically told them,“If you don’t want to die, leave this country within three days.” Yeah, that must be what she was trying to say, but… 

“It’s not because of you. Just like I’ve said earlier, I’m getting really annoyed with everything. I really can’t be bothered to deal with that stuff, at least for now.”

“But…”

“Gil-kun.”

“Whoa-?!”

Suddenly, Mer-san cupped my cheeks with both hands, causing me to let out a strange sound. 

“I did what I wanted to do out of my own volition. Those dragons were an eyesore and I wanted them to disappear, that’s why I’m thinking of killing them. You don’t need to worry about anything, Gil-kun.”

Mer-san said with a serious expression on her face, as if she was admonishing me. Her crimson eyes, fully locked on me, were filled with all the kindness and affection she had for me.

“Geez… Mer-san, you’re so sly, but… I like you.”

“Fufu~ I also like you, Gil-kun. I love you so, so much!”

Although I pouted for a bit, but I soon smiled and hugged Mer-san and in turn, Mer-san gently hugged me back.
