“You idiot.”

Oh dearie, look at him. He’s really frustrated. I can see the veins popping on his forehead. But… There’s no way I’m going to end it that easily. 

“Hey, how does it feel? How does it feel to see the plan you’re so confident in and the trap you’re clinging on so desperately getting completely ruined by Gil-kun?”

I asked, sounding absolutely delighted. I didn’t know how exactly he was able to set that trap in the sky, but to think he thought something of that degree would be able to take me down… He really underestimated me. After all, that trap was designed based on his assumption that I would stay in my dragon form. Indeed. In my dragon form, it would be hard for me to escape from that, but if I returned to my human form, I could easily slip away. 

…Well, if Gil-kun were conscious, he might scold me for doing something so dangerous. Ah, but seeing him trying so hard to scold me with his gentle demeanor… That might be good… Ah, what a pleasant thought to have. Yes. I’m sure he would look incredibly adorable. 

“So? Do you have something else up your sleeve? Of course, if you move even a finger, I’ll snap your neck without any hesitation.”

After all, I came here to kill this man. I wouldn’t hesitate. In fact, I would be more than pleased to kill him now. Of course, I would like to torture him first before killing him, but if I did that, I might put our entire plan in jeopardy. All of Gil-kun’s effort would be all for nothing. Besides, if I put myself in danger, I would also expose Gil-kun to danger and that was something I would never allow to happen. After all, everything I did, I did solely for Gil-kun.

“A-ARGHH-?!”

I gave just a little, tiny squeeze to his neck and Klaus’ pale face turned flushed. He began spitting blood bubbles from his mouth. 

Ah, perhaps I applied a little too much pressure? Oh my, it’s quite hard to gauge the right amount of force, huh?

“Come on, I loosened my grip a little. If you don’t speak soon… I might accidentally snap your neck off.”

“U-Ughh…”

After I loosened my grip a bit, Klaus turned his head just enough to shoot me a furious glare. Seeing that, I tightened my grip on his neck again. 

“Doing that won’t get you anywhere, so just answer me already. You’re going to die anyway, so what difference does it make if you tell me now?”

“Do-…. Don’t mess with me…!!”

“I’m not messing with you. Whether you speak now or not, the fact still remains. You will die at my hand today. The only difference is that you will receive the reward of being allowed to live a little longer while you’re telling everything to me.”

Heh. Look at him squirming about like a broken toy. Unlike Gil-kun, this guy is not charming in the slightest. 

“I know that there’s someone behind you. I know that you’re being helped by someone in secret.”

Well, of course. That poison, that trap, that breath attack and that mysterious weapon… None of them existed in the Dragroar Kingdom or anywhere near us. No. You wouldn’t be able to find them in the human kingdoms either. That meant, there was someone behind this man. Someone who posed a greater threat even to me, the proud member of the Fafnir family, the strongest family of them all. 

So… Why did they make contact with Klaus and give him all that stuff? No. Why did they use this guy to eliminate the Fafnir family? I knew I had to kill whoever was behind Klaus. That someone was a threat to my happy days with Gil-kun. I would never let anything that could pose a threat for Gil-kun be. That said…

“…Well, it doesn’t matter really. If anyone tries to get close to Gil-kun and me, I can just kill them before they have a chance to do anything.”

Even though he had been hurt and had lost all hope in humans, Gil-kun still tried to comfort me, saying, “I’m sure there are still good people out there.” He didn’t lose his hope on humanity yet and so… If I were to indiscriminately kill humans… No. If I were to kill everyone in the world, Gil-kun would surely be sad. That said, I also didn’t want to risk endangering GIl-kun. If there were the slightest chance that Gil-kun could be hurt, I wouldn’t care how much he scolded me later. I had to eliminate all risks. Anyone who tried to hurt my precious Gil-kun… Anyone who bore even the slightest potential to hurt him… I would eliminate them all. 

“That’s why, you’re already dead the moment I set my eyes on you.”

“Kuh… Kuhaha… Impossible…”

“Impossible? What exactly is impossible?”

I tilted my head as Klaus suddenly started laughing.

“When I’m gone and you achieve your victory… The dragons… Will be eradicated…”

“What are you talking about? Of course the dragons will be eradicated. Do you think I would forgive those dragons who have forsaken me?”

“No.”

No? What is he talking about…

“…Originally, I was supposed to be the enemy… In that case… The dragons might have a chance at survival, even if it’s only for a little while…”

“You… No. All of you will be brutally killed… By the beloved children of this world.”

“The beloved children? Whose?”

“…’The Goddess.'”

The moment he said that, a magic circle appeared on Klaus’ forehead. 

This…! This is the same one as the one he tried to use on me earlier!

“Ugh-!”

I kicked Klaus away and quickly ascended into the sky, leaving the ground behind.

“Ku… KUHAHAHAHAHA! YOU’VE CHANGED THE FATE! AND BECAUSE OF THAT, YOU ARE DAMNED TO FOLLOW A TRAGIC LIFE…. Ugh-!”

With a small explosion sound, Klaus’ head burst open beneath me. The man who had killed the former king, who had massacred my whole family… He eventually met such a pitiful end. What that man knew, what he thought and why he did all this… I would never know. Of course, I could see he had ambition and deep hatred for the Fafnir family, but there was something more… Something that pushed him to take that first step toward rebellion.

“Klaus said something about ‘the Goddess’….”

The humans of this world believed in gods and worshiped them, but no matter how much they mourned and suffered, those arrogant beings would never show themselves, let alone offer the humans salvation.

There’s no point in worrying about some nonexistent “Goddess,” and I have no interest in her at all. If I ever meet this so-called “Goddess,” I will make her understand that. It’s a sin to call someone else a ‘beloved child’ when Gil-kun exists. “I can’t stay here for long. I must go to Gil-kun.”

Gil-kun had used all of his strength for me, to thwart Klaus’ schemes and to defeat Reiner.

Unable to contain the overflowing feelings I had for Gil-kun, I rushed through the sky at a much higher speed than when I was chasing Klaus. I was determined to head toward my beloved.
