Chapter 32: Rendering Everything Useless With My Healing Magic

“-?! Damn it!”

“Oi! Stop that woman! Hurry up!”

Panicking, half of the dragons started going in reverse to chase after us. However, Elsa-san shook them off easily and closed in on Reiner. Not just that…

“Hahahaha!! Look at them scattering like ants! You guys are nothing to me!”

“Wha-?!”

Conrad-san laughed boisterously while taking down the dragons one by one. At this rate, the small fry dragons wouldn’t be able to stop him. It seemed they realized this too. They knew, but they had no other choice; they had to deal with Conrad-san somehow. 

“Ha! What the hell can a filthy maid who can only spread poison and some damn human brat do?! Hell, it’s actually convenient that you two are coming at me!”

“Get us if you can! Elsa-san and I are never going to lose to the likes of you!”

I shouted at Reiner, who raised his greatsword with a haughty smirk on his face. Elsa-san then exhaled a breath of acid at Reiner. The blue dragon quickly dodged and charged toward us while shouldering his greatsword.

“You’re being careless. This is actually better for ou-?!”

“DON’T UNDERESTIMATE MEEEEEEE!!”

Licking his tongue, Reiner opened his mouth and a blue magic circle appeared in front of him.

“Elsa-san!”

“Please hold on tight!”

Elsa-san arched her back and twisted her body, barely dodging the blue beam that Reiner had fired. Since she had performed a full flip in the air, I ended up hanging from her back, holding on to her with everything I had. 

“Ugh…!”

I mustn’t let go of her. It’s not just that I will fall, but if I let go, Elsa-san won’t be able to focus on the battle because of me.

“Gilbert-sama, are you alright?!”

“Y-yes! Don’t worry about me, Elsa-san! Just focus on Reiner!”

“Understood!”

With two kukri knives on both hands, Elsa-san closed in on Reiner just as planned. 

“You! You’re so damn annoying!”

Although Reiner was much larger than Elsa-san, it seemed he wasn’t particularly skilled in close combat. Especially because of his greatsword. His heavy greatsword made his movement more sluggish compared to Elsa-san. Elsa-san swerved around, showing off her great agility. It was clear to see Reiner was having a hard time catching up to her. 

“Please be careful. Just touching my knives will cause your body to rot away.”

“Ugh…!”

Upon closer inspection, her kukri knives were stained with a purple liquid. It seemed she had coated them with venom from her fangs at some point.

“Tch!”

Reiner swung his tail, which was thicker and longer than a log, creating a small distance and using that momentum to distance himself from us. However, Elsa-san was relentless. She refused to let him escape. 

“Dammit! What a pain in the ass!”

“I see… Then I will be sure to inflict a lot of pain in your ass-?!”

“Just kidding~♪”

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!?”

Grinning widely, Reiner had somehow let his greatsword go and slashed Elsa-san’s chest with his sharp claws. Fresh blood spurted out. Elsa-san started bleeding from the wound, causing my body to get stained in red as well. 

But…

“Ha!”

“-?!”

A soft light enveloped her body, and in the blink of an eye, her wound closed up. Even so, the blood that remained on Elsa-san’s body was enough to prove just how fatal the injury had been.

“…I’m sorry. I ended up making you go through something painful, Elsa-san.”

Though my healing magic could mend the wounds, but I couldn’t negate the pain she felt. That meant, I actually forced her to endure all that pain for our plan to succeed.

“What are you talking about, Gilbert-sama? Thanks to you, I can fight for Her Highness Mercedes sake as many times as necessary. Besides, having experienced your healing magic firsthand, I realize just how warm and comfortable it is. Do you know how much courage that gives me, Gilbert-sama?”

“Elsa-san…”

Elsa-san smiled gently, leaving me at a loss for words. Her words eased my guilt just a little, but at the same time, an even greater wave of sorrow washed over me. 

At the very least… At the very least, I need to heal her before she can feel the pain. 

“Darn it…! What the hell is that ridiculous healing magic?!”

Reiner gritted his teeth in frustration. No matter how many clever tricks he used to injure Elsa-san, my healing magic rendered all of his efforts useless as if it had never happened in the first place. From his perspective, this situation must be absolutely incredulous. 

That’s right. No matter what kind of attack he uses, I’ll heal her. That means there’s only one thing left he can do and I’m waiting for that moment to come… Any second now…

“What will you do? At this rate, you will lose to Elsa-san. After all, she only needs to scratch you with her knife and-“

“SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!! Like hell I’d accept that! I’m going to kill you both right here and now! All for the sake of His Majesty Klaus’ victory! We dragons won’t stand by and let you damn humans look down on us anymore!”

“-?!”

Reiner opened his massive mouth once more, preparing to unleash his breath attack. A blue magic circle appeared in front of him with us as its target, but then…

“That’s…?!”

Inside his mouth,  caught sight of another, smaller white magic circle glowing faintly. This must be his hidden trump card that he would use to fight Mer-san. 

“I knew it. He was hiding something-“

SWIIIIIIIISH!!

A spiraling torrent of white and blue beams engulfed Elsa-san and me on her back. The beam of light was larger than the black breath Mer-san had fired at the gray dragon. 

“-?! Gil-kun?! GIL-KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!”

Reiner’s beam breath tore through the sky, along with Mer-san’s echoing scream. Her voice was so full of pain. It sounded so devastating that it felt like my soul was being gouged up. Even though Mer-san was in the middle of fighting against Klaus… Even though she was busy proving her worth in the Royal Selection… Even though she had no time to be worrying about someone like me… Despite everything, she still thought of me. I could feel the sincerity of her feelings toward me and…

I will never, never let someone so precious to me be sad. That’s why…

“Ha!”

I cast my healing magic. No. I kept casting my healing magic continuously.

“Ha! It’s a shame I need to use my trump card here, but taking out that human brat is a huge benefit for us! That kid will definitely become a huge obstacle to His Majesty Klaus!”

Somehow, I felt like he was giving me way too much credit. I was just the sixth prince. My father had abandoned me and called me useless. I was someone who could only use this trifling healing magic, but… Yeah. If I wanted to stay by Mer-san’s side, I couldn’t stay as the useless sixth prince.

I have to—I will—keep trying.

“HYAHAHAHAHAHA! How does it feel, Princess-san?! That brat you card so much about is completely wiped from existence! There’s no trace of him-…. What?”

Reiner’s eyes widened as he let out a dumbfounded gasp.

Why? Well, of course it’s because…

“A-Ahh…. Gil-kun…!”

Both Elsa-san and I were still very much alive.
