ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Reinerrrrrrrrr!! Kill that human brat!! You have to kill him no matter what!!”
Klaus, who had been running from Mer-san, let out a furious scream toward the blue dragon—Reiner. His confidence from earlier had disappeared. Instead, he looked like he was genuinely terrified of something.
“Haha!! Like I’d ever let you lay a hand on Young Master Gil!”
“Indeed. Ater holding back for so long, I can finally let loose.”
Conrad-san readied his glaive while Elsa-san readied her special knife known as ‘kukri.’ Both of them were standing with their backs against each other, ready to intercept the incoming dragons. Yes. They readied their stance in order to protect me.
“You bastards! His Majesty Klaus is furious now! Take that brat down!! Get him with everything you have!!”
“””YE-YES, SIR!!”””
Agitated, Reiner barked his order, but the dragons hesitated. Before they had brought out their strange weapons, Conrad-san had already taken down many of their comrades. Now, their weapons had been destroyed and Elsa-san had joined our flank as well. At this point it was as clear as day who had the upper hand.
Besides…
“Conrad-san! Elsa-san! Don’t worry about getting injured! I will definitely heal you all!”
“Yeah! I’m counting on you, Young Master Gil!”
“With Gilbert-sama on our side, we can fight without any hesitation.”
Indeed. I will fight too… In order to ensure Mer-san’s victory.
There’s no way I’m letting us lose!
Hesitant though they were, the dragons charged in all at once.
“Too slow!”
“Gyaah!?”
“Guhh!?”
Conrad-san slashed the dragon in front of him in a downward diagonal strike, then swiftly turned his blade, cutting down the ones beside him as well.
“You shitty poison woman! Die…Ugh… Arghhh…”
“How does it feel to have that saod poison coursing through you?”
Blood-tinged froth was spilling out from the dragon’s mouth as he clawed his own rotting neck. Meanwhile, Elsa-san only watched the spectacle with a small smile on her face. I felt bad toward the dragon, but they got what they deserved. After all, that dragon still had the audacity to call Elsa-san “shitty poison woman.”
“-! I did it! …Huh? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH?!?! I’M MELTINGGGGGG?!?!?!”
“…Rejoicing over a mere scratch? How foolish.”
Bathed in an acid breath attack, the dragon dissolves into a sludgy mess from the head down. Looking closely, I realized Elsa-san had a faint scratch on her cheek.
“Here we go.”
I raised my hand and healed the wound on Elsa-san’s cheek.
“A wound this small hardly warrants healing magic…”
“No. I won’t let even the smallest injury go untreated.”
“…”
After I said that, Elsa-san silently turned her face away.
Does she dislike healing magic..?
“Hahaha! Elsa just isn’t used to this sort of thing! She’s embarrassed!”
“R-Really?”
“Yeah!”
We-Well, in that case… It’s fine, I guess? I just don’t want my healing magic to actually upset her.
“Conrad-sama, I hope you will forgive me if my breath attack accidentally hits you.”
“-?! E-ELSA?!”
Ah, Elsa-san is mad. I knew it. I really overstepp-
“That… Thank you.”
Elsa-san murmured in a small voice, looking slightly bashful. Hearing that, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Damn it! What the hell are you all dawdling for!? You’re struggling this much just to kill one human brat!?”
“B-But… We don’t stand a chance against experienced warriors like Conrad and the poison dragon Elsa!”
“Grrr…”
His subordinates’ cries sounded almost like wails of despair. Upon hearing that, Reiner let out a low growl and yet, this man still refused to actually join the fight himself even though his men were risking their lives.
“…I guess in the end, he’s just being swayed by Klaus’ authority.”
“-?!”
I murmured those words quietly while directing my cold gaze toward Reiner. It seemed he heard what I had just said.
“You human brat! Shut the hell up!”
“Don’t start yelling at me just because I told the truth.”
Reiner roared furiously, but I covered my ears in an exaggerated gesture and stuck my tongue out at him. Even so, this blue dragon didn’t get triggered easily.
How troublesome…
If he had acted purely on emotion, his movements would have been easier to predict, making him easier to deal with. But someone cunning enough to put on a frivolous act while hiding their true thoughts was much harder to handle after all. Especially since he was aiming for my life under Klaus’ order. I couldn’t afford to act recklessly here.
That being said…
“Hahaha! What’s the matter?!”
“GYAHHH-?!”
“Too slow.”
“Ugh…!”
Conrad-san’s glaive sliced through a dragon, cutting him clean in half. Meanwhile, Elsa-san crept up from behind and in an instant, she slit another dragon’s throat. With the two of them cutting down their foes one after another, the number of dragons dwindled rapidly. At this rate, the opposing dragon’s force would be completely wiped out in about ten minutes. And if that happened…
“Are you sure about this? If you don’t make a move now, your chances of winning will decrease even further.”
“Grurgh…!”
My words made Reiner growled in frustration. He understood how grave his situation was, but he seemed unable to come up with a way to turn the tide around. Well, this worked in our favor though. As long as we kept them occupied, Reiner and the other dragons wouldn’t be able to support Klaus. Mer-san would be able to take Klaus down on her own if we took care of the other dragons.
“Isn’t that right, Mer-san?”
“Fufu~ That’s right. While Gil-kun is doing your best, I’ll be sure to finish this trash off.”
“A-Ahaha…”
Even while chasing Klaus, who was running away at incredible speed, Mer-san still managed to hear me.
Do-Do dragons have insanely good hearing or something…?
“-?!”
“Tch… Looks like I have to step in after all.”
After staying on the sidelines and only giving orders until now, Reiner finally made his move. He joined the battle while swinging his greatsword at Conrad-san.
