Chapter 8: First Clear Reward

I had managed to successfully clip through the wall adjoining the reward room. However, because I had already claimed my first clear reward, I was probably not going to get as good a reward as last time. I figured that was why most adventurers wouldn’t farm the same boss over and over again. If there ever was someone who kept farming the same boss, it would be for the regular boss drops and not the clear reward. I was still grateful, though, because I couldn’t even touch regular monsters let alone defeat a dungeon boss. Any sort of clear reward would be my only source of income.

I opened the treasure chest with an expectant look on my face.

“Huh?”

A sword, similar to the one I got yesterday, had come out of the treasure chest! I wanted to be sure, so I double checked the sword and brought up its Status.

It was the first clear reward, the <Commencement Sword>!

That’s funny, I was told it was impossible to get another <Commencement Sword> once you already cleared the dungeon. Whatever, since I got it again, it could only mean that it was my second clear reward.

The <Commencement Sword> was a weapon that boasted a high price tag, so although I was confused, I was still pretty happy.

“Hmm? You’re the boy from yesterday.”

I went to the same exchange I went to yesterday and was met face-to-face again with that stern-faced old man.

“Uhh, could you please…”

I handed the confused looking man my <Commencement Sword>. As I expected, the man craned his neck and examined the sword with a “hmm”.

“I’m pretty sure you had exchanged a <Commencement Sword> with me yesterday, right kid? How’d you get another one?”

“I obtained it after defeating the Fassil Dungeon Boss.”

I didn’t actually defeat the boss, but it’d be a good idea not to mention anything about the wall-clip.

“That’s weird, the <Commencement Sword> is supposed to only be a first clear reward…”

The old man shook his head.

“Yeah, that’s so weird…”

I added.

“Well, the subsequent rewards after a first clear are chosen from a pool of various different things, so maybe you can get another <Commencement Sword> if you’re lucky.”

The old man spoke out loud, as though he were trying to convince himself, but his theory did sound pretty convincing.

In other words…

“You’re pretty lucky, kid.”

It would seem that I was a pretty lucky individual.

I ended up being paid the same amount as yesterday, so I took the money and left. I was pretty happy to have been paid so much, but something just didn’t sit right. Even if I had gotten pretty lucky, it felt like too much of a coincidence. It just felt off.
