Chapter 31: The Demon King Supposed to Lose, Watches How Things Unfold
The next day.
Under Elsia’s command, her army marched towards the royal capital.
With the kingdom’s forces completely wiped out, there was no one left to protect the people of the capital.
The devastation was inevitable.
Maybe that was why the mischief Elsia had carried out on the capital last night seemed to have worked.
“Y-Your Majesty, the Queen!! We have brought the people you requested, just as you ordered!!”
An old man stepped forward as a representative of the citizens of the capital.
Behind him were the individuals whose names Elsia had mentioned the night before.
Apparently, while I was enjoying an intimate moment with Elsia, a rebellion had broken out, and the people she demanded had been captured.
Among them was one of the targets.
Misha’s real brother, named Vernon von Avan.
Yes, the only target of Elsia’s true vengeance.
Elsia smiled at the representative and spoke.
“It seems a few people are missing, doesn’t it?”
“T-That’s because they were nowhere to be found. Perhaps they’ve fled…”
“I see…”
Nodding, Elsia then turned to address her entire army.
“You all, today is a feast. You can eat the citizens of the capital as much as you like.”
“W-What!? That’s not what you said!!”
Cheers erupted from Elsia’s army, while the screams of the capital’s citizens echoed through the air.
The representative protested to Elsia.
Though it was clear he was desperate to survive, Elsia calmly responded.
“I said to bring me the people I requested. You didn’t bring them, did you?”
“T-That’s because the ones who fled are responsible…”
“Hahaha, oh, that’s funny.”
“W-What’s so funny!?”
Elsia’s quiet laughter unsettled the representative.
“You people are always like this. It’s never your fault; it’s always someone else. Blame them, not yourselves. Is this just part of your national character? The demons are much more honest and easier to understand.”
“Y-You traitor to the kingdom!!”
“…”
That was a remark that touched Elsia’s deepest anger.
With a swift motion, Elsia sliced off the representative’s head and let it fall to the ground.
“!?”
“Are you surprised that you’re still alive, even after being beheaded? It’s simple. I’m controlling your blood flow to keep you alive. Like this, it’s hard to die, and you can’t die easily.”
“W-What are you—”
“I’ll let you watch as your own body is eaten, alright?”
Scary. My wife is terrifying.
But, well, it’s not surprising that Elsia was genuinely angry with the representative.
“The ones who betrayed me first were all of you. Don’t blame others.”
Leaving the representative on the ground, Elsia turned her gaze to the captives from the crowd.
She approached one of them, Vernon von Avan, and smiled as she spoke.
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it, Sir Vernon?”
“…Yeah.”
“Could you tell me where the royals have fled to?”
“…I don’t know.”
“I see. Well, it can’t be helped then. Let’s move to a different place.”
With that, Elsia ordered the other captives to be locked in the castle’s basement and took Vernon with her to another location.
I followed along, and Elsia eventually stopped in front of a certain building.
“Waah, this brings back memories. It feels like it’s been ages since I came to the Magic Academy.”
It was the Magic Academy, a setting from the otome game The Saintess and the Five Heroes. Elsia had spent three years here, enjoying sweet days with her targets.
Looking nostalgically at the school building, Elsia then moved toward another place.
It was the girls’ dormitory.
This was the room where Elsia had lived, away from her family.
“It’s covered in dust… And it’s been ransacked, too. Oh no, my favorite trinket is broken!? Ugh, this is so disappointing.”
Elsia’s room had been left abandoned and in disarray.
It seemed that after Elsia left, the girls attending the academy had done this.
Well, it’s no surprise. If you monopolize the attention of handsome men like the prince, you’re bound to stir up some jealousy.
“Haha, it really does bring back memories.”
“…Elsia. What do you plan to do, bringing me to a place like this?”
“What do I plan to do? Isn’t it obvious? Torture.”
Elsia declared with a bright smile.
“If you tell me where Lord Julius fled, I won’t do anything too terrible.”
“…Lies. You’ve always had this habit—when you lie, your eyes drift to the right.”
Wait, really?
I’ve never noticed that. Does that mean Elsia has never lied to me?
That makes me kind of happy!!
“Fufu, yes. It was a lie. Even if you tell me, I’ll still subject you to unbearable torture.”
“…In that case, I won’t say a word.”
“That’s a problem. I really need you to betray the royals, Sir Vernon.”
“Don’t be ridiculous…”
“—Misha, come in.”
At Elsia’s signal, Misha entered the room.
Apparently, Elsia had secretly prepared her beforehand.
Misha tilted her head, looking at me, then Elsia, and finally, her gaze settled on Vernon.
“Huh? Dear Brother? Oh, wait, no. My brother is Diablo, but… huh?”
“Misha!? You’re alive!? Hey, Elsia!! What did you do to Misha!?”
“Fufu, no need to shout. Misha, it’s about time you regained your senses, isn’t it?”
“A… ah… ah…”
The light faded from Misha’s eyes.
“I betrayed my brother, and then the Demon King took my body, ugh… ughhh!!!”
“…Isn’t throwing up a bit much?”
“How dare you! How dare you make me betray my brother! I’ll never forgive you! I’ll kill you!!”
Misha, in a frenzy, lunged at me.
But the difference in our levels was too vast.
“Whoa there.”
I held Misha tightly to restrain her.
Suddenly, Misha’s body stiffened, and her cheeks flushed red.
Wait, what? What kind of reaction is this?
“Ahh ♡… Huh? Ah, Brother? N-No, he’s the Demon King, but he’s also my beloved brother… ah, no, don’t touch me ♡ My body… my mind can’t handle this!!”
“Hey, are you okay?”
Though clearly confused, Misha clung tightly to me.
Her expression was melting, yet at the same time, her eyes flashed with anger and hatred, then shifted to love and affection…
Her expression kept changing rapidly.
“Misha, listen calmly.”
Elsia whispered to Misha as she hugged her from behind.
Misha trembled slightly.
“Misha, you have two choices.”
“H-Huh?”
“One option is to join us in torturing Sir Vernon. The other is to return to being human and live somewhere far away with him.”
At Elsia’s unexpected words, Misha began to regain her composure.
“Live with Dear Brother…?”
“Yes. Here, I have a Rebirth Stone, gifted by Lord Diablo. If that’s what you wish for, I’ll give it to you.”
This was from last night.
Elsia had asked me for one of the Rebirth Stones I had, and I gave her one.
It seemed Elsia wanted the stone for this purpose.
“Now, make your choice.”
“I… I want to live with my brother, with Vernon…”
“Are you sure you won’t regret that choice?”
“Huh?”
“Even if you choose Sir Vernon, he won’t choose you, Misha.”
“Ah…”
Misha’s eyes wavered at Elsia’s wicked smile.
“Misha!! Don’t listen to her!!”
“See? He’s trying to use you to save himself.”
“My brother… he’s not that kind of person…”
“Misha, you’re being deceived. Calm down and think about it. Sir Vernon only wants to use you, while Lord Diablo cherishes you both as a sister and as a woman. Which would you prefer?”
“I… I… I don’t know…”
Misha was forced to make a decision.
Would she choose me, her false brother, or Vernon, her real brother?
Elsia seemed to already know what her answer would be.
