Chapter 20: The Demon King Supposed to Lose, Kills Time with “Huh?”
“P-Please, spare my life!!”
“Sorry, but I can’t do that. The order is to kill everyone from the Kingdom of Alvera, especially the merchants. —Darkness Lightning.”
I swiftly ended the life of the Kingdom of Alvera’s merchant who was begging for his life with a single spell.
I never liked the smell of burnt flesh.
It makes it hard for me to eat meat for a while. Since I’m not a member of the Demon King race anymore, I need a certain amount of food.
“But still, a siege by starvation is pretty brutal.”
Elsia had taken control of the main roads and had been ordering attacks on any merchants passing through.
That said, we only kill the merchants from the kingdom.
If merchants from other nations pass through, we just take their cargo and let them go.
Additionally, we tell the merchants from other nations that the Demon King army’s target is the Kingdom of Alvera, aiming to isolate them.
As long as they avoid dealing with Alvera, merchants from other nations are safe.
How many merchants from other countries would risk their lives to save the Kingdom of Alvera?
Probably very few, I could count them on one hand.
“Adelo~!!”
At that moment, a beautiful woman with bright red hair and a friendly smile called out to me.
It was Ryukshu, the evolved lizardman.
“Can I eat this human I just killed?”
“I’ve told you many times, no.”
“…Brother, she’s barbaric.”
Misha said, pointing at Ryukshu.
Well, I get it. A beautiful woman munching on a human head is like something out of a horror movie.
“Uhh, the smell of roasted humans makes me hungry.”
Ryukshu said, her stomach making a cute rumbling sound.
I shivered at the contrast between her words and actions, then took a small bottle from my pocket and sprinkled the liquid inside over the dead body of the Kingdom of Alvera’s merchant I had just dealt with.
After a short wait, the corpse began to twitch and then slowly stood up.
“No matter how many times I see it, the undead are still creepy.”
What I had sprinkled on the undead was Elsia’s blood.
Vampires can turn those who receive their blood into their servants and control them at will.
In short, we can easily bolster our forces with every kill.
But even though I say “control,” it’s still just a corpse. Unless Elsia is nearby, all I can do is give simple commands.
Even so, having a large number of them is a real threat.
And the undead made with Elsia’s blood aren’t weak to sunlight, which is usually a big disadvantage.
The heroine’s powers are seriously impressive.
It seems Elsia is planning to build an army of undead, turning every person from the Kingdom of Alvera she kills into one.
Even though she’s my wife, I think she’s utterly ruthless when it comes to tormenting her enemies.
“Well, looks like we’ll be bored for a while again.”
We’re supposed to keep watch here until the undead army is ready.
The preparations for the invasion should be finished soon, but until then, we’ve got some time to kill.
Honestly, this isn’t the kind of job the royal guard should be doing, but I asked Elsia for it.
Humans seem to give far better experience points than monsters, and with the Avan assault and this mission, I’m nearly at level 999.
I’d like to level up somewhere if possible, but there’s no dungeon nearby. Even if there was, abandoning our job would be out of the question.
So, no leveling up for now.
Which means we’re going to be really bored, so I need to find a way to pass the time.
“Um, Brother ♡”
“Yes?”
“If you don’t mind, could you spoil Misha a little? ♡”
“…Gulp. You’re such a needy little sister.”
I pulled Misha’s small body into a strong embrace.
“Mmm ♡ Brother, let’s kiss?”
“…Stick out your tongue.”
“Mmm ♡ Slurp ♡ Kiss ♡”
I shared a slightly grown-up kiss with Misha.
Ryukshu looked over at us in shock, but she didn’t seem alarmed. We’ve been together for the past few days, after all.
Although I haven’t explicitly explained the details of my relationship with Misha, she knows we’re involved in this kind of physical relationship.
That’s why we could freely enjoy some intimate moments without hesitation.
“Mmm ♡ You’re really good at kissing, brother ♡”
“You’ve gotten pretty good too, Misha.”
I said, patting Misha’s head while grabbing her small bottom.
Under the clear blue sky, Misha and I passionately made love.
At some point, adventurers hired by the kingdom tried to attack us, but they were so weak I took care of them without breaking a sweat and continued on.
Leveling up felt great too.
“Ahn ♡ Brother ♡ You’re amazing ♡”
“Oh no, I overdid it again and made Misha pass out… but I’m still not satisfied.”
I said this deliberately, and Ryukshu, rubbing her thighs together, approached me.
“H-Hey, Adelo ♡ Hold me too ♡”
“Keep this a secret, okay?”
“Y-Yeah ♡ Heh, I learned a few tricks from a succubus friend of mine, so get ready ♡”
My relationship with Ryukshu continued.
To explain myself, I did mention that I have a wife. I didn’t say it was Elsia, but I did bring it up.
To that, Ryukshu just shrugged and said, “So what if you have a wife?”
Later, I found out that in lizardman culture, it’s normal for a man to have multiple women, so there wasn’t any issue.
By the way, I did get Elsia’s permission to continue the relationship.
Feeling guilty, I confessed everything to Elsia, but instead of getting mad, she just smiled awkwardly.
According to Elsia…
“Lately, I’ve become addicted to having sex with Lord Diablo after you’ve been with other girls. I’ve turned into quite a pervert. You need to take responsibility for this, okay?”
It seems she’s awakened to a dangerous kink.
To take responsibility, I make sure to hold Elsia at least as many times as I’ve been with others.
The immoral nature of it all only makes it more thrilling.
As I enjoyed the sensation of Ryukshu’s ample breasts, I waited for the day the invasion would resume.

Side: Kingdom of Alvera
In a meeting room deep beneath the castle of the Kingdom of Alvera, a place used only in emergencies, an elderly man was groaning.
His name was Alvance von Alvera.
He is the King of the Kingdom of Alvera, the one who offered the saintess as a sacrifice to the Demon King.
He is also the very person responsible for bringing Alvera to the brink of disaster.
He was now in the middle of a strategy meeting with the kingdom’s top officials.
Among them was Alvance’s son and crown prince, Julius.
“It seems there’s no choice but to use ‘that.'”
“Your Majesty, are you serious!?”
One of the officials shouted in response to the king’s murmured words.
“The kingdom’s land routes are now cut off, and reinforcements from other nations are no longer expected. If this continues, the kingdom will wither away. We must protect the people, at least the people.”
“But, Your Majesty, ‘that’ will take the life of the one who summons it.”
“Even if I’m gone, Julius will still be here. I want all of you to support him.”
“”Your Majesty…””
The kingdom’s top officials were moved to tears by the king’s resolve to sacrifice his own life to protect the nation.
However, there was someone who disrupted the solemn atmosphere.
“You all seem to be getting emotional, but let’s not forget that this entire situation was caused by your hasty decision in the first place.”
Only one person in the Kingdom of Alvera could speak so directly to the king.
She appeared to be a girl of around twelve or thirteen.
She wore a cloak that completely covered her body, but underneath it, she was dressed in a revealing outfit resembling a micro bikini, with an eyepatch covering one of her eyes.
This adorable girl with rare black hair and eyes, named Naria, was a sage who had been protecting the kingdom for hundreds of years.
“Lady Naria, no matter who you are, you can’t speak to the king like that—”
“Silence.”
With just one word from Naria, the mouth of the official who tried to rebuke her was suddenly unable to move.
“I’m in an extremely foul mood right now. The apprentice I cherished, the reincarnation of my dear friend, was branded a witch and exiled from the kingdom while I was confined to my laboratory. Worse yet, she actually became a real witch. Now, do you have any excuses?”
“Naria, I don’t believe I did anything wrong. Had I not acted, we might have provoked the Demon King’s wrath, leading to the kingdom’s destruction.”
“But in the end, the result is the same, isn’t it? No, it’s even worse now that we’ve lost the saintess, our trump card against the Demon King.”
Naria wouldn’t stay silent.
The girl who now threatens to destroy the Kingdom of Alvera was a once-in-a-lifetime prodigy, discovered after decades.
She was a girl whom Naria, as a sage, had personally taught magic and looked after.
Indeed, it was Naria’s fault for being so absorbed in her research that she cut herself off from the outside world and failed to protect her apprentice.
But even so, Naria continued,
“If we’re talking about the root cause, it’s your foolish son who, for a petty reason, manipulated her and pushed her towards the Demon King.”
“A petty reason, you say?”
The one who bristled at Naria’s words was none other than Julius.
“Oh? Did I make you angry? Then I’ll say it again. The root of this mess is your foolish decision to provoke the Demon King just because you wanted everyone to bless your marriage to Elsia.”
“T-That’s…”
“Sure, Elsia might have been a saintess in her past life, but right now, she’s just a commoner. It’s unlikely that everyone would have blessed your marriage. In fact, there was even a chance you could have been disinherited.”
Naria showed some understanding of the thoughts behind Julius’s actions.
But she didn’t hold back in her criticism.
“You were afraid of losing your position as crown prince and of not being able to have Elsia. And this is the result. You’ve lost Elsia, and now there’s a chance the kingdom might be wiped off the map. This is your responsibility.”
“Ugh…”
“Well, I’ve said enough… As of today, I’m washing my hands of this kingdom.”
“”—!?””
Her words sent shockwaves through the room.
Naria had been the sage protecting the kingdom for centuries.
For her to declare that she was abandoning the kingdom was a matter of grave significance.
“But, since this country was founded by my dear friend and the man I first loved, I can’t just abandon it without doing anything. So, I’ll go and try to negotiate.”
“Are you sure about this?”
Alvance asked. Naria scoffed in response.
“Hmph, of course it’s not okay. Even I could be killed by the current Elsia. I don’t want to die.”
“…Hmm.”
“So, hold off on using ‘that’ for a while. It doesn’t care about humans; it’s like a walking disaster with a will of its own.”
“Understood. I’m counting on you, Naria.”
And so, the sage who had protected the kingdom for so long set out to meet her former apprentice, now a witch, and her old friend.
The sage never returned.
