Chapter 12: The Demon King Supposed to Lose, Captures the Villainess
We charged into the town of Avan.
Soldiers scrambled out of the main gate, trying to defend.
But in their panic, they couldn’t organize effectively.
The soldiers on the walls were occupied with the Sky Unit, and couldn’t use the large ballistae to support.
The Sea Unit had infiltrated through the waterways, leaving few soldiers to defend the main gate.
“Hahaha! So weak! Wasn’t Avan supposed to be impregnable?!”
“This lizardman is strong!”
“Surround him! Don’t let the demons into the town!”
A little distance away, Ryukshu was battling a dozen soldiers. He swung a massive sword as tall as himself, cutting people in half.
Wow, impressive.
In terms of sheer power, he easily surpassed the handsome heroes who came to defeat me.
“Die, you minions of the witch!”
Calling someone’s wife a witch is rude.
Well, since she calls herself that, I guess it doesn’t really matter.
Thinking this, I casually swung my sword at a soldier coming at me, severing his head.
I felt a rush of experience points flow into me.
Ah, the feeling of leveling up!
“…I killed him easily. And I’m actually happy about leveling up…”
Maybe my memories as the Demon King have warped my human sensibilities, or perhaps it’s because I’m not originally from this world.
Maybe it’s both.
Either way, I didn’t feel much emotion about killing people.
“Hey! Nicely done, newbie!”
While I was basking in the leveling-up sensation after killing soldiers, Ryukshu gave me a hearty slap on the back.
His great sword was covered in blood, and numerous soldiers lay around him.
“You took down that many by yourself. Impressive.”
“Ha, never underestimate a lizardman warrior. We’re descendants of dragons! Oh, looks like the others have moved on ahead.”
“Yeah. Let’s catch up.”
Ryukshu and I followed the advancing troops while taking care of any soldiers in our way.
It seemed Elsia was leading the charge, as there were shredded human bodies likely cut down by her blood blade.
Hmm, seeing these gruesome scenes doesn’t bother me at all.
When I first regained my memories from my previous life, I was horrified by the other demons eating humans, but maybe I’m surprisingly okay with it now?
…No, let’s not go there. Killing and eating are two different things.
Eating them is definitely a no-go.
“Oh, we’ve made it to Avan Castle!”
Avan Castle is a large fortress located at the center of Avan.
It’s the residence of the lord who protects Avan, and from what I can sense with my magic, there are still many soldiers holed up inside.
“Seems like there are still soldiers barricaded inside…”
“Hey, Adelo. How about a little bet? Let’s see who can take down more enemy soldiers. The loser has to obey the winner. What do you say?”
“I’m in. —Darkness Lightning.”
“!?”
I accepted Ryukshu’s challenge and unleashed a bolt of pitch-black lightning at the castle gate that was blocking Elsia’s forces.
The gate was reinforced with numerous defensive spells, but my magic shattered it, forcing it open.
“You can use magic?!”
“Actually, I’m better at this than using a sword. And you’re not going to say no magic allowed, right?”
“…Heh, this is getting interesting. It’s a challenge!”
Ryukshu and I entered Avan Castle through the broken gate, taking down soldiers as we encountered them.
Suddenly, a loud explosion echoed from the upper part of the castle.
It seemed Elsia couldn’t break through the defensive magic at the gate, so she started her assault from above.
At this rate, Elsia’s army will win.
“You won’t get past here, witch’s army!”
“Alright, Darkness Flame.”
“Arrrghhhhh!”
I burned the soldiers in my way with black flames.
“F-Forgive me, my lady…”
“My lady…?”
I caught the soldier’s dying words.
There is only one person in Avan Castle referred to as “my lady.”
…I’m curious to meet her.
“Oh, could it be this room?”
Eliminating the remaining soldiers, I found a promising-looking room.
I opened the door and entered.
“Don’t come any closer.”
“Oh?”
“If you come any closer, I’ll kill you, even if it means my own life.”
In the room stood a girl holding a dagger, radiating a murderous intent. She was a beautiful girl with long, light blue hair and dark blue eyes.
She seemed to be about thirteen or fourteen years old.
Compared to Elsia and Mana, her chest size was disappointing, but there was a slight hint of development.
She appeared expressionless and cool, but sweat was beading on her forehead.
I knew this girl.
“Misha von Avan, right?”
“!? …How do you know my name?”
“Well, why do you think?”
I guessed based on her resemblance to the game character, and it seemed I was right.
Misha is the sister of a target character in “The Saintess and the Five Heroes.”
She often interfered with Elsia and her brother’s romance, playing the role of a villainess.
Like her brother, she attended the same magic academy in the royal capital as Elsia. Jealous of Elsia’s closeness with her brother, she resorted to petty harassment.
Elsia tried to laugh it off as childish behavior, but her strict brother did not.
Moreover, Misha’s secret plan to assassinate Elsia was uncovered.
Her brother reported everything to their father, resulting in Misha being expelled from the magic academy and forcibly brought back to their hometown, Avan.
To sum it up briefly:
She’s a girl who became so obsessed with her brother that she tried to get rid of any girl who got close to him, which got her expelled from the academy.
Depending on the route in the game, Misha could come to admire Elsia as her “big sister,” so I can’t bring myself to dislike her.
However, this Misha seems to hate Elsia.
“…Did that witch tell you?”
“Ah, yeah, something like that.”
She wouldn’t believe me if I said I knew her because she was a character in an otome game I played in my previous life, so I just nodded vaguely.
“So, what now? Are you planning to fight me to the death with that dagger?”
“It’s simple. I’ll kill you here, then kill that woman. Then my brother will notice me.”
“Oh, okay.”
She was a bit yandere in the game too, but her situation seems to have worsened since her punishment…
But what should I do?
Elsia’s targets for revenge include the handsome heroes, and their sister might be useful.
Alright, I’ll capture Misha alive and let Elsia decide what to do with her.
“Die.”
While I was thinking, Misha attacked.
But an ordinary dagger couldn’t leave a scratch on me.
Misha blinked in shock at the lack of impact.
“Huh?”
“Take a nap for a bit.”
“Ugh.”
Using magic, I knocked Misha unconscious and carried her.
The battle for the town of Avan ended in a decisive victory for Elsia’s army.
