The Demon and the Hero - Chapter 5- Sudden proposal
Lenora was quite satisfied with the breakfast, and Riphez was a great company as well.
There is something about him that makes him different from others, and that’s his perspective towards her. Although one could sense the respect he holds for her, because of her status as a Hero, he has a friendly side to him as well.
He not only can be excited as a fan but mature as a friend as well.
That was why she never noticed when the bread was finished and it was already the time for her to leave.
“How much do I pay?” She asked once she washed her hands.
Riphez smiled and told her, “Considering this was our first date, it’s obvious that I would pay. So let it be.”
Lenora questioned, “How was it a date?” Although she has never been in a relationship before, she has heard things from Hera. That girl just couldn’t stop chatting about her experiences.
In all those tales, Lenora realized that on a date, a couple wears fancy clothes, meets at a specific place, and then goes shopping and other things. They roam around places with their hands connected and whisper sweet things to each other.
But as far as she could remember in these few minutes, Lenora and Riphez did nothing that could be regarded as romantic. Surely, he flirted with her once in a while but it was more like playful flirting. He never crossed his limits.
However, Riphez had a different thought process.
Inching closer to her, he asked, “Tell me, Lenora…did you enjoy yourself while you were with me?”
Lenora didn’t have to think before nodding, “Yes, I did. I forgot about those tiresome hours and was completely engrossed in the conversation we had.”
Riphez smiled at her, “And that’s what makes it a date. When we enjoy each other’s company, it is a date. We don’t need to follow social norms, Lenora.”
Lenora was genuinely surprised to hear that. She didn’t expect someone younger than her would speak so wisely.
She couldn’t stop herself from smiling in response, as she nodded, “Okay…I will allow you to pay for our date.”
Riphez nodded in agreement, “Now that’s more like it.” He glanced at the kitchen from where the familiar waiter who told Lenora that the shop was closed, came forward and handed Riphez something.
Once Henry was gone, Riphez extended the wrapped bread to Lenora and said, “Please have this. It is the gift we give to every first customer.”
“I sense deceit in your words,” Although she said that, she received the bread.
Riphez smiled mischievously and didn’t say anything.
Soon Lenora returned to the carriage, and unlike the time she went out, there was a smile of contentment on her face.
It was strange. Until three days ago, she couldn’t have thought that she would go on a date with someone. The very idea of romance was foreign to her—something she believed she would steer clear of for the rest of her life.
The carriage traveled back to the mansion, and the first thing she spotted was the royal carriage parked outside.
She frowned; she had just returned from the royal palace…if the King had something to say, he would have.
‘Some sort of emergency?’
She climbed down the carriage and advanced towards the mansion. She held the bread close to her, intending to share it with Hera later.
However, for now, her priority lies in checking on the person who came from the palace.
She spotted Hera near the reception, urging Lenora to ask, “Everything fine?”
Hera looked at her friend before informing her, “It’s…first Prince’s secretary. She came here to deliver a message.”
Lenora nodded, unaware why her maid was frowning like this, before the silver head handed the bread to her friend, “It’s warm, have some.”
Hera was pleasantly surprised, “Did you go to the nearby bakery?” There was a teasing smile that tugged at her lips.
Lenora narrowed her eyes and decided to remain silent on the matter.
Hera’s mood improved as she walked away and Lenora walked inside the reception hall.
“Ah, Lady Lenora…”
“Remain seated.” She asked the brown-haired lady who came here from the royal palace.
In her presence, the soldiers from the palace stiffened. Their body posture told how nervous they were in front of the Supreme Commander.
For several days, all the forces of the Kingdom were under Lenora’s control, so it was no wonder they were aware of her identity and respected her for the strength she carried.
Lenora sat down and signalled towards the nearby maids before they filled the cups with freshly brewed tea.
Once they walked away, Lenora asked, “What’s the matter for Your Highness Williams to send his personal assistant here?”
The lady smiled gracefully as she picked up the cup and informed her, “It’s not a formal matter. That’s why he didn’t bring it forward during the meeting, rather sent me here.”
Lenora raised her brows, “Okay…tell me.”
Lenora had no idea what it could be about. She thought that the Prince had some personal grudge against someone and wanted to ask for Lenora’s help.
Naturally, she would decline in such a case. However, little did she think that the reason behind the woman’s visit was…
“A dinner proposal. Your Highness wants to have dinner with you in order to extend his gratitude. The venue has been decided, and your transportation will be arranged. I hope you will accept the proposal, Lady Lenora.”
Lenora was shocked as she took the letter from the woman and read it up to down before her shock slowly subdued.
Once she was done, Lenora looked up and told the lady,
“Okay, I will be there.”
