The Demon and the Healer - Chapter 28- Reunited!
The Supreme Goddess Eririth has manifested using Helios as a mediator and the first thing she did was to interrupt me from meeting Ray in the afterlife.
If I would have come into her light some months ago, I might have fainted because of my devotion but now, my eyes were burning with rage as I looked at my ex-comrades and the levitating white figure which was the source of everything that transpired.
“What am I doing? It’s simple. I am ending myself since you all took something precious from me.”
My voice held no emotions rather than pure rage even though I was in the presence of the most Supreme deity. That no longer matters to me. They have taken Ray from me and nothing could bring him back, nor do I have the strength to take revenge for his death so reuniting with him in the afterlife is my only remaining hope.
“P-Please listen to us, Char. That demon…he was manipulating you all this time that’s why we had to take this step…” Grace tried to persuade me with her excuses, affirming that she was entirely aware of the whole plot yet I was so blinded by my friendship that I never suspected anything.
I am ashamed of myself for trusting such a vixen.
“Alright he was manipulating me…then why did he choose to save you all today and why he didn’t kill every one of us when we attacked the Demon Lord. He had the strength and we all were helpless in front of him…then why? Why do you all have to ruin our peaceful life? Just because you assume that I was getting controlled doesn’t mean it’s the truth. And even if it was the case… Even if I really was getting manipulated, I was happy with him!”
My tears never halted as I shouted my questions and informed them how they have ruined my life with Ray. It was disheartening to see how they could shamelessly claim that Ray was an evil being while the Goddess who was supposed to be on our side actually sacrificed hundreds of life just to make this whole plan seem real.
How ironic. The objective of my life seems laughable now since those to whom I entrusted my back came out to be my greatest enemy.
“Char…please don’t do this. You know I won’t let you hurt yourself for something you are not to blame. Please listen to me and everything would be-”
“Stay back! If you dare come any closer then I would forget everything we have shared in the name of friendship and take everyone along with me to the other side.”
I was no longer in my sane mind to think about what I was saying anymore. My agitation for Helios and the others has reached the point that I was just a blink away from self-detonating myself by overloading my natural mana absorption.
It would destruct this whole capital along with the heroes and how much my heart is wounded, I might do it without minding about anyone anymore.
My statement made the three in front of me startled as they backed off slowly.
The dagger was still in my hand and since there was nothing more to lose I held it high with my both hands and with a smile brought it back to impale my heart…
“What are you doing, woman?”
My eyes widened, not just because the dagger was frozen just before my chest with the tip of the weapon slightly pressed over my skin but the fact that this voice sounded awfully familiar made my mind freeze as well.
This…am I dreaming?
Is it my desperation that is making me hallucinate? But I clearly intended to die right now so why I am suddenly assuming that I heard Ray’s voice?
Wait…don’t tell me…
“Stop your illusion, Goddess! You cannot control my life anymore!!” I was not even a bit respectful when addressing the deity since I was frustrated for not being able to even die properly.
In return, it was not the deity who responded, but rather the same voice as before.
“Is it a new way of yours to avoid me, woman?”
My mind fell into chaos since not only his voice but the arm around my waist and this warmth were too familiar to count as an illusion.
The dagger from my hand was snatched away readily since my mind didn’t allow me to think of anything other than the person who was just beside me.
A ray of expectation ignited in my heart as I slowly turned toward the man.
My heartbeat was soaring high but I somehow held myself together and finally saw him.
Those midnight black hairs still shone as brightly as the first time I saw him. His peculiar red eyes were still filled with pride yet there was a tinge of concern and care directed at only me. That face, this warmth, and most importantly, the way he called me was exclusive to Ray and Ray alone.
That’s it…he can’t be anyone else….this is no illusion…Ray is back… Ray is back… Ray is back…RAY IS BACK!!!
I inwardly screamed before crashing myself into his chest and sobbing in joy.
“Ooof…take it easy, woman. I am not gonna run away you know.”
Despite sounding like he was complaining, the way Ray gently wrapped his arms around me expressed something else.
I have no clue how someone who was stabbed by the holy sword was still alive but until I could see Ray again, can hug him again and feel his presence enveloping mine…I have nothing to feel concerned about.
Maybe it was the sudden decrement in the adrenaline or maybe the elevation of my happiness, I found my consciousness slipping away.
And just like that, with a happy smile, I blacked out.

[3rd Person POV: ]
Ray gently rubbed the back of the only woman he adores with a smile never leaving his face. However, the people in front of him didn’t share the same feelings.

The supreme Goddess just was about to curse Ray when suddenly her tone faltered and the connection she had established with Helios began to waver.
Other than the Goddess, the three members of the Hero party also felt the change in the atmosphere as they found their breath choked in their throats due to the amount of bloodlust emitting from a single entity.
Even Helios did not dare to make a rash move since this was the first time he has ever seen this demon enraged.
Those red eyes contained nothing but the desire to slaughter and Glain was sure that if not for Charlotte currently in the Demon’s arm, the Hero party might have been turned extinct by now.
No one dared to speak another word before Ray decided to forward his warning.
“This is the first and last time you have meddled with this world and with me, goddess that’s why I am still skeptical about whether to visit the Heavens or not. Try anything funny and your white world would be turned crimson by these two hands of mine. ”
The wavering manifestation of the Goddess remained silent at the threat before the light portraying the goddess, disappeared.
Now remained the three mere humans and Ray had no interest in wasting his time on them.
He rather wanted to invest his time in his woman for quite a while.
‘There’s a lot for you to know Charlotte…but not now.’
