The Demon and the Healer - Chapter 27- The trap...
[Helios’ POV: ]
I hate this.
To use so many lives to execute a single Demon can never be counted as justified.
This whole thing related to the Titan and whatever has been happening for some hours now was the plan of the Goddess and the Emperor was also a part of this. Not only the Royal family but also the important nobles left the Capital even before this mayhem began.
I tried protesting but I forgot that I was just a mediator between humans and deities, who can only work like a puppet and do their bidding.
The awakening of an ancient being was never a coincidence. Whenever a sentinel woke up from their slumber, it was on the commands of Gods.
And right now as well, one of the strongest ancient beings in existence, The Vanguard Titan was on a rampage, to gain the attention of the single Demon who has become the reason for so many troubles.
Seriously, if only that single pest didn’t exist, then nothing would have gone out of order. Charlotte would have married me. We would have ensured humanity’s safety until the very end and have lived a very peaceful life.
But now, not only do I have to bait Charlotte here but also wait for that bastard Demon general to get weakened by fighting the Titan so I could strike his back and extinguish the looming danger, once and for all.
‘Though…why so urgency…’ I have been wondering for a while why the supreme Goddess seemed a little too restless because of that specific demon’s existence like he would become something influential to deities as well…
*BOOOOOOOM*
“Lord…he finished it in one hit…? ” I was hiding behind the rubles after taking some damage when I spotted the very same demon who has ever made me feel the creeps of my life.
Against what the Goddess expected, the Demon didn’t even struggle to fight the Titan and in just a single strike, each component of the Titan disintegrated…
‘Now here it comes… ‘
I summoned the holy sword Excalibur and waited.
The plan has always been this instant hit kill included so there is nothing to get worked up about. Rather, the main plan begins now.
The broken pieces of the Titan did not fall on the ground rather they began levitating toward Ray. The demon stood all dignified, without fazing even a bit, like he expected something like this to happen, or maybe he was too arrogant about his power to bother giving any reaction.
Nevertheless, the small boulders and pieces of the Titan began revolving around the Demon at a high pace before all of a sudden the movement came to a halt and then it happened.
“RAY!!” I heard Charlotte’s scream from a distance but other than her, there was no one worried about him. On the contradiction, the soldiers on the sidelines were smirking and rejoicing at the view.
I have long lost any hope to feel anything from this. Rather, I readied myself since engaging Ray in those ancient energy supplemental rocks was not the whole plot.
Ray’s body was getting trapped in the conjunction of the rocks as I walked out of the shed before clutching my sword and leaping in the air.
My body came to a halt some meters above Ray as the only thing now I can see of him was his upper body up to his chest.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw a pale-faced Charlotte gawking at the sight with a sense of disbelief and shock…but there was nothing I could have done for her more than this.
Annihilating this demon from her life was the greatest help I could provide for the girl I love. And so would I do.
‘I am sorry Charlotte…’
Enhancing my body with Light Energy I launched toward Ray with the tip of my blade pointed toward his collarbone. The Ancient energy subdued Dark energy and in addition to holy light, no one could protect Ray from extinction.
This was the end.

[Charlotte’s POV:]
“R-Ray… ”
Why did this happen?
Is it because I chose to save those people whom I call my friends and precious to me, that presented me with such hideous payback?
Ray was telling me to go back. He was trying to tell me that everything here is just a trap…yet…yet…
My eyes couldn’t move away from Ray’s descending figure with Helios’ sword plunged deep inside his body. I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t move. I was unable to think. Everything…just feels blank at this very moment.
Ray was not moving….how can he when such immense holy power was conjured in that strike…
But why? Why him? Just because Ray was different and he wanted to help us? Just because Ray didn’t pursue world dominance? Just because he didn’t annihilate this hypocrite Hero and all those important delegates that day? Or maybe it’s because……he fell for me?
It must be that. Yes…I am to blame…I am condemnable for all this…so…so should I also die?
Yes, that would be for the best since in that way, I would be able to see him once again… I would apologize for not listening to his words and also for ignoring his feelings for all these times…and most importantly…
‘I would tell him, that Charlotte also loves Ray… ‘
My hand clutched the dagger strapped near my waist as I absentmindedly pulled it out. But before I could have impaled myself, a voice halted my movements.
[What are you doing, my child?]
