The Demon and the Healer - Chapter 25- Chaos in the Capital~1!
[Charlotte’s POV:]
Unlike the demons which I along with my comrades have been fighting for more than half of our lives, ancient beings are far more dangerous and catastrophic.
Though they are scarce and appear once in several centuries, it was not a matter to remain casual about it. Not every ancient being carries an evil approach toward humanity but due to the passage of time they lose their sense of comprehensibility and ensue chaos across the surface.
The creatures in question actually are those sentinel beings who were present on this planet before human civilization settled down. They were our guardians before humanity developed its own arsenal for defense.
Since Ancient Guardians were too unstable for the balance of the world they were told by the deities to return to their motherland and remain there for an uncertain future. Following the supreme command, their body dissolved into the surface.
In the past, there were only three occurrences when an ancient guardian appeared and two of them turned out to be on friendly terms. Since they disobeyed the orders of God they turned themselves into dust for the blasphemy.
The third one held no active consciousness which resulted in the loss of hundreds of innocents before the legendary hero of the past somehow brought it down.
But this time the entity which has sprung out of the depth was anything but comparable to anything I have faced before.
A titan.
‘C-can we even win against something like that… ‘
Gazing at that 70 ft tall behemoth which had a hardened clay-like body and in place of eyes three pearls arranged in a triangular pattern. Its limbs were like those of a human but that destruction the Titan was bestowing upon each of its movements was anything but human alike.
The areas near the border from where the Titan attacked were already evacuated and the inner region where the nobles reside is still in the process to be cleared out.
“Charlotte!”
I turned to look at the source of the voice and found a familiar girl landing beside me.
“Grace.”
I acknowledge her presence before I returned to my work which was to sense any life around the vicinity.
Soon I frowned since I found that more than a dozen children are stuck in a basement of a nearby building.
“Northeast….thirty meters…”
“On it!” Grace didn’t ask what I was talking about since our coordination over the years enabled her to connect the dots and act accordingly.
I increased the range of my radar and all while maintaining enough distance from the Titan so I don’t get swept with the shockwave.
“Char…” A voice that didn’t go well with this situation reached up to me. I did not open my eyes to affirm who the person was before I relayed my immediate thoughts.
“Helios, we need to take this fight out of the Capital. Inside the perimeter, it would only get dangerous and I would not be able to draw my skills here.” I need to be near mother nature to release my offensive spells. During the mission of Demon Monarch’s annihilation, I was just working as a support but now, on this side of the veil, I can be of more use.
I don’t know what Helios was doing since he remained silent for a bit but I could sense his gaze lingering over me. Thankfully I didn’t have to remind him how dire this situation was before he planned out our next move.
“I can use [Solar Discharge] but you know what would happen to the surroundings right? ”
Truth be told I knew that saving this region of the Capital was a baseless expectation and if Helios uses the skill he just named, then forget about the Titan, the holy hero would himself destroy anything and everything that comes in the way of his light.
I thought about the pros and cons but at the end of the day loss of thousands of gold worth of buildings could never compare to those many lives whose safety may get jeopardized if not taken necessary steps.
The decision was rather simple to make.
“Give me a moment.” Helios hummed before I parted my lids and saw his distancing figure approaching the Titan and launching some attacks to keep it distracted for the time being.
I inhaled deeply, channeled every ounce of my mana, and supplied it to power up one of my strongest skills.
[Third Eye]
An extra eye emerged at the center of my forehead before my senses flared like never before. I was able to see hundreds of meters away without straining my nerves and my ears were picking up the sound from the clashes of the Titan and Helios to the small sobs of the people stuck under the rubble across the district.
“Glain.”
“Hai~Princess.” The assassin of the Hero party appeared by my side from the shadows, holding the same demeanor as usual.
“34 and a half degrees to the north, travel 230 meters. You would find a small wooden house demolished there. From that point, turn 4’o clock and move a hundred meters where you will find a well. Harry up and save them. ”
“….alright.”
I did not see what kind of expression he made upon hearing commands from someone who no longer was a member of their party but I could not care less about his reaction. If not Glain or any other of my ex-comrades then I would have gone there myself and would have found any way to bring a halt to this catastrophe as well.
I double-checked the vicinity once again and fortunately found that there was no one remaining in the danger zone.
“Helios!”
I turned my head toward the hero before shouting to let him know that the preparation has been done.
“Step back Char! I got this! ”
Despite being said, I held my ground and just cast a barrier around myself. Grace was Gail, after accomplishing the rescue mission also sped away to maintain some appropriate distance so they don’t get engulfed in the crossfire.
Helios landed a decisive blow on the Titan using his holy sword which pushed the monstrosity some steps back before he initiated his skill.
The name [Solar Discharge] is self-explanatory as Helios charges his sword with the overwhelming energy of the sun before he releases it in the desired direction. It’s an A-rank skill and could destroy a whole town under the effect. If only there would have been a sun on the other side of the veil, Helios might have brought down the army of the Demon Lord sooner than he originally did.
But well, let’s just hope that this works and everything turns out to be fine.
*SLING*
The essence of the Light poured down as Helios called forth the energy and channeled it in his holy sword. Before the Titan could have regained his footing, Helios was already prepared, with his sword now shining with brilliant light.
It was glowing to the point that gazing at it directly was near impossible and the person nearest to it would partially go blind. That would be my role to cure Helios after the attack but for now, the Titan was about to face the wrath of the Hero.
“DISCHARGE!!!”
Helios cried as he released the stored energy toward the Titan. A stream of blinding light flowed at an impressive speed, destroying everything in its path before it reached the behemoth.
However, against my expectation, the ancient being didn’t take any damage rather the three pearls on its face began to absorb the energy…
‘Oh lord….this is going to turn real bad… ‘

A/N: – Charlotte seemed a little fangirl in this chap since in her perception Helios is very strong and she shares a long past with him that created such a perception. But she nearly forgot that this same Helios was kneeling in front of a certain someone…
…and he’s about to make an appearance.
