The Demon and the Healer - Chapter 2- Approach?
The Light Hero, Helios Saberath, has never felt so intimated before as he was at the moment upon just witnessing this peculiar demon who stood in between the shine of justice and the demon lord. The last barricade before humanity would never have to fear anything anymore.
Helios had the perfect plan and had the strength to implicate those plans with the help of his capable and diligent teammates who were always prepared to sacrifice their lives to have the monarch of darkness subdued once and for all.
But coming across this kind of entity which gave a presence far higher than what the whole army of demons could altogether release out, Helios was getting rather nervous.
The demon was a monstrosity and was far above those of general ranks and all those higher demons Helios had slaughtered before coming here. Without even moving or releasing a single bit of intent, the demon was able to bring a drop of hesitation in Helio’s consciousness about whether he should proceed from here or not.
‘What are you even thinking, you dimwit!’
Reprimanding himself, Helio shrugged away his weighing thoughts since he knew that his team depends on him, and as a raid captain and the hero on which every single person out there was depending, he had to live up to their expectation. He had to get himself out of this daze and fight this…thing, even if he loses his life in the process.
“Your soul is dyed with the screams and agony of those whom you have killed and mercilessly slaughtered in the past. And to atone for your sins, death is the only punishment you could be bestowed with.”
Readying his sword, Helios uttered those words in a confident tone, seemingly bringing the other raid teammate out of their reverie in the process as well. They also prepared themselves for their best move to deal with this unexpected huge roadblock to their final destination.
The mage began chanting her most offensive and deadliest spell which conjured twelve ice lances that charged at the enemy and upon being struck gives away the thunder shock which could even end the life of an A-rank demon.
The bald tank of the team held his heavy weapon in a tight grip ready to dash at the enemy anytime and bash its head into a bloody pulp. The same was for the assassin who got his poison-dipped daggers and readied his weapons in a reverse grip as the slim boy took a stance, excited to see how this new enemy holds up to his speed.
And as for the healer then she was rather startled and was a little fidgety as well since for some reason she could feel the demons’ eyes lingering on her specifically. But the blue-haired princess didn’t let the thought weigh her down as she chanted the buff spell to provide powerups to her teammates.
Sensing that his attack force was ready and seeing Grace’s nod indicating that her spell was ready to be discharged any moment now, Helios glanced once at both his assassin and tank, to flank from either side since the light hero had decided to face the demon from the front.
In response, he found no reluctance even though he knew his teammates must be worried about him charging like this. Helios readied his sword and held it in a frontal grip with the tip of the blade slanted and pointing in the direction of the entity his sword was about to slay.
Helios didn’t turn to look at Charlotte but the reason he chose to do a frontal assault stems from the consideration he had for the girl so she doesn’t get targeted.
The light hero glanced once again at his foe and snickered to see his still frozen face which hasn’t even blinked ever since Helios entered inside with his comrades. It felt like the demon was just all bark and no bite. He seemed too scared and frightened to even make a run for his life. Not like Helios was going to let this or the demon king flee, under his watch.
Taking a deep breath, the silver-haired boy coated his sword his mana before charging forward leaving a small crack on the floor, as he shouted at the top of his lung for his comrades to follow as well.
“ATTACK!!!”
Thanks to Charlotte’s buff their speed had amplified and within half a second they would have crashed their initial attacks on the demon still sitting on his throne. And if by chance the demon survives the beginning attacks—which seemed highly impossible by now—Grace had her spell prepared and ready to pierce the demon as soon her teammates moves out of the range.
Like the time had itself slowed down, the silver-haired knight hero charged at his enemy with his legendary sword raised high up, ready to make a big slash across the demon’s chest followed by Glain’s stab on the demon’s vital spots and for the finishers, Gellion’s smash with his battle axe which surely would have ended this whole farce of last barrier and such.
It should have gone like that. Helios hoped. But…
“Kneel.”
A command which contained more weight than all the team members of the hero’s party has held up or have ever even come across suddenly poured down on their shoulders, like a curtain fell from its hanger and draped over their entire being.
Like a dozen of wild elephants were piled up on each other and put over every single human, except for one, mad the four instantly lay flat on the ground, excluding Helios who had enough strength to support his body over his knee.
“Ah-Ahhhh! G-Grace… Helios….what happened to you guys?! Get up! Get up!”
The only member of the hero’s party, Charolette who still held her ground seemingly unaffected by anything tried to call out her friend as she amplified her boost as far as she could. Dread was oozing out of her oceanic eyes, as she tried to somehow understand what suddenly transpired to make all her teammates like this.
Even Helios was down kneeling like that with his face contoured in extreme pain and barely holding himself from falling flat on the floor like others. The groans and cries of her teammates made Charolette panic and brought tears to her eyes along the way.
She couldn’t fathom what was happening so suddenly!
“C-Chara…r-run a-a-away-KHAK! T-This e-e-enemy is to-too strong…”
Helios didn’t know why the demon was letting Charlotte off the chart but since it was a chance for at least her to escape from this potential death sentence, Helios wanted his love of life to live for both of them.
He never imagined in his wildest dream that such demonic strength which was hefty enough to crumble down the strongest aligned forces of the human side would be something a single demon possesses. This monster was a calamity for which Helios was not prepared!
If anyone can be saved from his group he would have gladly said the same thing which he did to the healer but just like he thought the noble lady, responded to him in the same way which signifies what kind of person she was.
“No, I am not leaving you guys alone by any means you try to persuade me! I am staying here and I would fight this monster and return with everyone!”
The eyes of the princess flared with unparalleled resolve as she held her dagger tightly in her both clutches and her eyes trained on nothing but her enemy who she have to at least damage enough so that he doesn’t hurt her friends anymore.
She knew it was an impossible endeavor but Charlotte couldn’t just sit back and see her friends die in agony. Even if she perishes because of her actions, if even one of her friends gets to live from here, that would be worth it.
“Prepare yourself, you demon!”
Charlotte shouted with her eyes going watery before she launched herself forward much to her friend’s shock and grief since it seemed before anyone Charolette would throw away her life in a futile attempt.
“No!!”
Helios shouted with all the remaining energy he had when he saw his beloved running past him with her dagger pointed at the Demon’s chest. The place his sword should be targetting for was now being aimed by someone who was not made to lift a weapon yet because of his powerlessness…Charlotte was about to…
Everyone believed they would hear the healer’s death scream or possibly Helios’ if Charolette doesn’t even get the chance to cry out the anguish of her death. The feeling of dread and guilt already coursing through their whole being for someone so precious as their team healer had to die before them.
But, what transpired at the scene and what the others heard from the demon was far from what they could have ever imagined since they entered this ominous room.
Helios with wide eyes saw Charolette piecing the demon’s chest with her dagger and penetrating inside until the handle of the dagger didn’t become resistant. Black and crimson blood oozed out of the injury which made even the assaulter surprised as she wide-eyed gawked at the wound she implicated, in utter disbelief.
But what she missed was the eyes of the demon which was warmly looking over the girl. It was only after Charlotte felt a warm hand lifting her chin, that she realized her current stance.
Gawking in his eyes, Charolette’s whole being screamed for her to evacuate and leave the place as soon her physical body could allow. But what flowed out of the inhumane’s mouth was something that again brought a sense of perplexion to not only the girl but everyone present inside the room.
“Your beauty seems rather profound from this close, woman. Tell me what name I should be calling you with?”
