- Chapter 10- He deserves better
Outside the room, as expected, Tomoya-san and Sumire-san were waiting for us.
As I opened the door, a glint of hopefulness flashed in their eyes, and I felt fortunate that their hope wasn’t going to be crushed.
I opened the door further away, revealing their daughter who stood beside me.
“T-Tsumi…” her mother called out, her voice trembling.
Tsumiki-san glanced at me once, and as I urged her, she took a few steps forward and met her mother in a hug.
The man of the house didn’t remain standing either and hugged his child right away.
I could tell just by a glance how worried they were, and all of this because of me.
I saved Tsumiki-san from her depressed phase once, only to push her back in that corner by suddenly abandoning her(I still don’t consider this as abandoning her, but Tsumiki-san phrased it like that).
“*sniff* Why Tsumiki? Why do you always scare your parents like that?”
“I am sorry, child…Dad wasn’t here when you needed him.”
Both of them were grieving because of what happened but now at least there was subtle joy and relief in their eyes.
Once they parted, their attention turned toward me.
I awkwardly said, “Umm…I should be going-“
“Please stay for dinner,” Tsumiki-san said as she extended her hand and held mine.
I was slightly embarrassed at the gesture, given that her parents don’t know the temporary relationship we have formed.
Soon, Sumire-san also said, “Yes, Kazuki-kun. Please stay for dinner. It has been a while since we all ate together.”
I sighed before agreeing, “Then…sorry for intruding.”
Tomoya-san rested his hand on my shoulder and said, “Don’t apologise, rather, we should be thanking you, Kazuki-kun.” He turned toward Tsumiki-san and added, “You brought our daughter back to us.”
I faintly smiled as I glanced at Tsumiki-san.
I somehow sorted out her situation once again…but at what cost?
I can’t even begin to think about how things would unfold between us now.
….
Satsuki was getting restless.
It was evening already, almost twenty-four hours, and he hadn’t been trying to reach out to her at all.
More so, when she called his family’s number, his mother said that he had gone to meet Izumi.
She had no date today. She kept her schedule open just for Kazuki today because she wanted to make it up to him.
Yesterday, an important client requested her appointment. The company demanded that she be there, that’s why she had to break the promise. And she knew if she explained things calmly to Kazuki, he would forgive her.
But for that, he needs to be here with her.
‘Why does it have to be that guy?’ Satsuki bit her lower lip. She didn’t like Izumi at all. But then again, Kazuki didn’t have any other friend than him, even though Satsuki urged her to befriend her friends in the university. She has a massive friend circle and yet her best friend was stuck with only two people.
In a way, it was good too. The fewer people who knew how good Kazuki was, the less chance there would be for him to leave Satsuki.
A proud smirk extended her lips. That’s right, it’s better if he remains a loner and depends on her. There was no one better than her who understood Kazuki and his demands.
‘But that Izumi guy is alone enough to manipulate my innocent Kazuki.’ She can’t have that.
That’s why, despite all the reluctance, she went through her contacts and dialed his number.
Taking a deep breath, she connected the phone to her ear and after a few rings, the call was finally picked up.
[I was having such a good vacation and suddenly, you called. Tell me, did you finally liberated my friend from your love trap?]
Satsuki frowned at those words, “You are on a vacation?”
She clearly remembered hearing from Kazuki’s mother that Kazuki was at Izumi’s place.
[I am not surprised that you don’t remember about it even though Kazuki told you so many things about my trip. I mean, for a girl like you-]
“Shut your crap and tell me where else Kazuki could be if he isn’t with you?” Satsuki was now getting restless.
There was a very thin chance for Kazuki’s mother to lie to her…after all, in her eyes, Satsuki was still the cute innocent girl who was Kazuki’s reason for happiness. While she indeed was, the mask of the innocent girl she wears around her was completely fake.
So, Kazuki had lied to his mother to be somewhere else? But where? He never does that. He doesn’t have any friends or any place he would visit by lying to his mother. He has stopped working as well. Then…
[He might be with a girl right now? I mean, you reached out to me means you two had a fight. So it wouldn’t be surprising if Kazuki decided to spend some time with a girl who actually appreciates his presence.]
“Stop your bullshit! You don’t know a thing between us. You are just an outsider.”
There was a brief pause from the other side and just when Satsuki was about to disconnect the call she heard him saying,
[I really hope he sees your real face one day, Satsuki. Because when he does, he would realise that he deserves someone much better than you.]

Damn, his friend is a good one. But don’t worry, he already knows. He might not be aware of it yet, but deep inside he’s already given up.
