- The Day After I Told My Shut-In Genius Childhood Friend, Who’s Highly Dependent on Me, “I Got Confessed To,” She Showed Me a Hypnosis App
- Chapter 40 - Like Being in a Dream
Morning. When I woke up, Mio was sleeping next to me.
What did we do yesterday again? Oh, right. I listened to Mio’s selfish requests. She had a lot of them. I hugged her. She also told me to hug her from the front, then from behind. She gave very detailed orders, and I did all of them.
That’s normal for a boyfriend.
If anything, those kinds of requests are a bonus.
After doing many things, some less than hugs and some more.
“…mmn…”
The princess was worn out and sleeping soundly beside me.
I wondered what time it was and looked at the clock. It was already close to noon.
I stared at it for a while.
“Where’s the alarm…?”
It didn’t ring. Of course not. Neither of us set one.
Today was a normal weekday. The time to worry about being on time had already passed.
“…Hey, Mio.”
“Um…?”
“We’re super late. Like, really bad late.”
I shook her shoulder to wake her up. Mio looked up at me with half-open eyes.
“What…?”
“School. Late. It’s almost noon.”
As her boyfriend, I should probably listen to her opinion. Mio made a small “mm…” sound, moved around, and put her face on my stomach. I’m not a pillow.
“…Noon?”
“Yeah. Noon.”
“…Why?”
“Time just passes before you notice.”
Mio let out another sleepy sound on my stomach and made a small “mm…” sound.
“Then… let’s skip and sleep.”
I thought about it for a bit. Then I decided it was fine once in a while, and went back to sleep too.
…It was pretty hard to breathe with her sleeping on my stomach, so after a while, I asked her to move.
◇
I wake up after falling asleep again.
Not much time seems to have passed. Outside, it is still bright. Mio is still asleep next to me.
I poke her cheek, but she doesn’t wake up at all. Amazing. How much can this girl sleep? I’m pretty bad myself, but still.
I go downstairs and decide to make some food first.
I haven’t eaten anything, so I’m extremely hungry. I’ll boil some stick ramen and stir-fry the vegetables we have left, and put them on top. That should be enough. By the time it’s done, Mio will probably wake up.
(Come to think of it… We skipped school without saying anything…)
I suddenly think of that and open my phone. There are messages from my mom, “School called.” “Don’t cause trouble.” “If you’re going to skip, call first.” I’m sorry. Making my mom worry is scary. I’ll have to be ready for a lecture later.
But even though it’s scary, the happy feeling is stronger right now.
(Waking up and having a girlfriend… that’s a pretty nice life.)
For a moment, I feel an uneasy feeling in my head.
But I don’t dislike spending time like this with Mio. If anything, I think I could live happily even if things stayed like this forever.
Thinking that, I start to cut the vegetables, then the doorbell rings.
“…Did Mio order something?”
I look up toward the stairs, but I don’t hear anything. She’s probably still asleep. I guess I’ll answer the door.
“Hello. —Huh?”
When I open the front door, Kirisaka-senpai is standing there.
“Hi… Honami-kun.”
“…Why are you here, senpai? Isn’t it still school time?”
“Momose-san seemed a little strange today. And then she said you two weren’t there either. So I left school early and came here.”
“Momose-san was acting strange… why come to us?”
Kirisaka-senpai gives a sad smile.
“Honami-kun, do you remember what happened yesterday?”
“Yesterday?”
“What did we talk about in the student council room?”
“Yes. I remember that…”
I do remember. She told me that maybe it would be okay to leave Mio.
“Then what about meeting Nanaka-chan after school?”
“…Huh?”
Yesterday, after school, I went home with Mio… Somewhere along the way, I lost consciousness for some reason…
When I came to, I was in Mio’s room, and she was taking care of me.
So I don’t know. There is a fog in the middle of my memories.
“You don’t remember.”
“Did I meet Momose-san?”
“Nanaka-chan said she didn’t meet you either.”
“…Then maybe we didn’t meet?”
“That can’t be. We were supposed to talk about something important.”
What kind of important talk?
Senpai shook her head and looked a little anxious.
“Honami-kun. Do you feel like something is wrong with you right now? Has something like this happened before?”
“I do feel kind of floaty, I guess.”
Is that true? But I can’t notice past unease, so I don’t really know.
Senpai lowers her eyes slightly.
“…So it really has been like it never happened.”
“Senpai?”
“Where’s Mio-san? If that’s okay, I’d like to talk to her a little.”
“She’s still sleeping…?”
Senpai tilts her head slightly and looks behind me.
Then, in the next moment, she freezes with her face full of surprise.
“I’m right here, senpai.”
Before I could even turn, I heard her voice. Mio had woken up.
A myon, myon, myon sound came from her.
Senpai’s expression completely disappeared.
“‘Please don’t get in our way.’”
When Mio said that, Senpai nodded once and turned her back.
What is going on? It’s like she’s a puppet being controlled.
“…Hey, Mio?”
“Honami… It’s not safe outside. We should stay at home after all.”
I turned to ask why she said that to senpai, and Mio was standing there, holding up her phone screen.
The moment I looked at that screen, my mind started to feel foggy.
“Don’t think about anything. We just have to love each other. That’s all you need to do…”
Right before my consciousness slipped away, I saw Mio’s worried face.
