Chapter 32: Couple… Seat…
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Huh?!?!?! You didn’t buy the tickets beforehand? Just how much of a virgin are you?”
“I told you, it’s my first time going here. I didn’t know I needed to buy the tickets in advance.”
“You could’ve easily figured out that you need to buy tickets in advance by just looking it up online. How clueless can you be, you virgin?!”
“Stop calling me a virgin. This…!”
Kisara tightened her hold on the nape of my neck as if she was telling me to stop saying anything further and with my consciousness growing distant, we made our way to a recently opened movie theater. This theater was located in the heart of Hiroshima City. The walls were decorated with scenery unique to Hiroshima, such as autumn leaves and deer, and the overall interior had a modern feeling to it. Unlike most theaters, they actually served alcohol here and despite coming in on a Sunday afternoon, we could see many adult men and women with wine glasses on their hands.
“Even so, I feel a bit out of place here.”
“It can’t be helped. The movie I want to see is only playing at this theater.”
Kisara-chan turned her face away with a huff. Lately, I had gotten used to her acting all tsundere like this. Contrary to me, Kisara didn’t look out of place here. Donned in a white knee-length dress, with a pastel-colored green and yellow cardigan draped over it, she looked many times more mature than she did in her usual school uniform. The last time I saw her in casual clothes was at the shopping center and when I looked at her like this, she really suited this kind of calm and elegant outfit. It didn’t feel bad to be the only person to see this adult side of her, even though we were just pretending to be a couple.
“What are you spacing out for? Hurry up and buy the ticket.”
I met her gaze as she peered at my face with her eyes narrowed. Embarrassed, I quickly turned my face away, and she frowned slightly, looking a bit dissatisfied. I started operating the ticket machine with clumsy hands.
The movie that Kisara said she wanted to see… Ah. This must be it.
『Tomorrow, I Will Fall In Love With the You That I Saw That Day』
According to her, it was a love story about a high school girl with the special ability to travel back in time, and the heartbreaking fate of the protagonist who unwittingly became involved with her. I wasn’t the type to watch romance films, but I had heard of this one because it was a movie adaptation of a popular novel and after hearing the synopsis from her, I couldn’t help but feel a bit interested in the movie. A part of me wondered what it would feel like to date a high school girl with special abilities…
Of course, neither I nor Kisara had any special abilities. Our situation was completely different from the protagonist in that movie. Still, our situation was still unique due to our ‘pretend lover’ relationship. Besides, maybe we could learn something from that movie that would be useful for our relationship going forward.
Umm… Let’s see… First, I need to select the movie… The showtime is… 11:30… Alright. I got it… Wait? What?
“Sorry, looks like most of the seats are already taken.”
“Huh?”
Kisara peered at the screen.
“Ah, you’re right.”
Kisara looked visibly dejected at that. Her frustration was apparent as she stared at the ticket machine screen. The fact that she didn’t immediately snap at me with something like “I told you to buy the tickets in advance!” only seemed to emphasize just how disappointed she was. I also felt frustrated at myself as I scrolled through the ticket machine screen.
Ah.. There are some seats available, but they’re quite far in the back and they’re consecutive seats too… But… This…
“Hey, Kisara… It looks like this seat is still available.”
I said while pointing to the screen.
“Couple.. Seat…”
She said in a small voice and suddenly, her cheeks turned bright red.
Yeah, that’s right. Even though we’re pretending to be a couple, but today is a holiday and we’re not being watched by anyone from school. Also, if we’re willing to wait for a bit, I’m sure there are other seats available in the next showtime. We really don’t need to go out of our way to sit in a couple seats to watch this movie.
“Umm… Maybe we should give up for now. We can kill time somewhere and watch it at a different time instead.”
“…-ine.”
“Huh?”
“I said it’s fine!”
Her face turned even redder than before. She shoved me aside and tapped the couple seat button herself.
“Come on, hurry up and get the money. If you don’t hurry, someone else might take the seat!”
“O-Okay…”
Saying that, she snatched my money and hastily inserted the bills into the ticket machine. Then, she grabbed the ticket that came out. For a brief moment, she looked somewhat pleased as she stared at the ticket, but she quickly returned to her usual tsundere expression and said.
“Don’t get the wrong idea. I just wanted to watch this movie right now.”
“I didn’t say anything…”
“What? It’s written all over your face. You must be thinking about something weird.”
“I’m not thinking about anything in particular…”
“I don’t know what you’re imagining, but even though it’s called a couple seat, it’s just a regular chair with the armrest removed. You don’t need to be all flustered over a mere couple seat.”
She said that with a mischievous smile, covering her mouth as she chuckled.
“Yo-… You’re right. Technically speaking, it’s not much different from when we’re eating lunch together.”
I thought so, but as soon as we entered the movie hall…
I was at a loss for words at the sight before me and I was sure Kisara must be the same. The couple seat was far beyond what we had imagined. It was more like a “sofa” than a “chair,” and to be precise, it was more like a “bed” than a “sofa.”
The red velvet sofa was reclined significantly in the back to provide ample comfort and there was even a footrest for lying down and watching the movie. This movie theater was really thoughtful with its seat design in order to provide the utmost comfort for its customers.
“Th-this is…”
“H-Humph! For a princess like me, this kind of seat is just perfect!”
Kisara boldly declared, but her face looked a bit stiff.

Chapter 33:I Thought Kisara Is Just an Normal Girl After All
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Kisara Sarashina’s POV
I can’t believe this is happening…
While lying down on the couple seat, I waited for Michihito-kun to return after buying drinks. I had never thought the couple seat would be so much like a “bed.” This seat made me feel like…
I could feel my face heating up. The thought that I could see Michihito-kun’s side profile so close next to me made me too embarrassed to even breathe properly.
Where am I supposed to look?? I want to watch the movie, but there’s no way I can concentrate on the movie when I’m feeling so conscious of him.
Thankfully, the couple seat was surrounded by partitions, so I didn’t have to worry about other people’s gazes on us. But… Had I known I was going to end up lying down like this, I wouldn’t have worn a dress.
I grabbed the hem of my dress, trying to pull it down somehow. Although I had shortened the skirt of my school uniform, but there was no way I would be lying down like this when I was wearing my school uniform. I always wore my short skirt while being mindful of the forbidden line to prevent my underwear from being seen. However, with a dress, just moving my body a bit would cause the hem to rise, exposing parts of me that shouldn’t be shown.
Even though I’ve been looking forward to the movie… Uuugh… Since when I’ve become a pure maiden like this… We’re just pretending to be lovers. We’re a fake couple. I’m the class idol, Kisara-chan. I should be able to deal with this situation more calmly…
I was writhing in agony on the inside when finally, Michihito-kun had returned.
“Here’s your drink and… Here.”
He said as he handed some sort of fabric at me. The fabric landed softly in my hand.
“What’s this?”
“They were lending out blankets, so I borrowed one for you. Having your cold feet during a movie won’t feel good, right? So wrap it around you and become a little caterpillar or something.”
Tch… This guy… How come he’s able to do cool stuff like this so nonchalantly like that?
I hid half of my face with the blanket and glared at him. Whether he knew what I was thinking or not, he placed a ginger ale next to me.
“Ah… thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
He smiled brightly before sitting down next to me on the couple seat.
Look at him, acting so cheeky even though he’s still a virgin. How can he stay so calm in a situation like this? He should be more flustered!
“But still, I didn’t take you to like romance movies, Kisara.”
“What? Can’t a bold and curt girl likes to watch romance movies?~”
I felt a bit irritated at how nonchalant he was speaking, so I answered curtly without looking at him.
“Well, it’s not that, but it’s just… Turns out you’re just a normal girl after all.”
A normal girl, huh…
The words he nonchalantly uttered pricked my chest.
Maybe I want to see this movie precisely because I’m not a normal girl… Maybe I’m trying to find solace in the love story of a girl in a situation similar to mine… Perhaps I’m just trying to delude myself, thinking I might be able to have a happy ending…
I thought to myself as the theater darkened and the movie started. After the typical movie trailers ended, what appeared on screen was a handsome protagonist and an overwhelmingly cute heroine.
“Ah…”
I couldn’t stop myself from letting out a small sound. Watching a movie like this always made me think that love didn’t sound bad at all. I had completely forgotten about other thoughts like how Michihito-kun might have seen my underwear or how his face was right next to mine or how surprisingly calm he had been. All of those distractions had faded away and I became deeply absorbed in the movie.
The movie’s lines were woven together like beautifully designed pieces of clothing.
“Do you really like me?”
“You… You’re my one and only prince.”
“But… This is probably just a fake love.”
“That’s why… I’m here to say goodbye.”
“Thank you for being my lover until today.”
Yes. This was a romance movie about the sad fate of a high school girl with special abilities and the male protagonist who got involved with her out of pure chance. The end credits rolled and even though most of the audience had left the theater, I couldn’t move my body. I couldn’t stop trying. Only my sobs echoed on and on inside this quiet theater.
