Chapter 25
The blonde young man in front of me looks at my direction and smirks. When I glance at his hands, I can see calluses from wielding a sword.
These calluses are likely from his practice swings. That fearless smile must be backed by serious effort and dedication. I vaguely thought so.
“Father-sama!? He’s from a family of swordsmen…”
“Indeed. This is Christopher Gisarc, from a noble family that has produced many holy knights throughout the years. When he saw your picture for the first time, Mirai, he fell utterly in love.”
Saying that Father loked at him and smiled. Has he already earned Father’s trust? I guess it’s no wonder as well. He comes from a distinguished lineage and appears to be a hard worker. As a marriage partner, he’s perfect. But…
“Please, Mirai. Let’s live the rest of your life together with me.”
“I don’t want to. Absolutely no.”
Because she refuses so intensely, they are not able to move forward with it. In my opinion, if she marries him and enters his noble family, her life would be secure, and her family would also prosper as a result.
“I want to be as a fellow adventurer… want to spend the rest of my life with A–Arrian!”
Oi, your true feelings are spilling out now. First of all, she doesn’t even like me in the first place. Secondly, there’s no way she could replace someone from a friend to a lover right after descovering that the person in question was not a girl as she previously knew him to be.
“I see, Mirai. Then prove me right now that you truly love this idiot.”
“Prove…”
I muttered, repeating Father-sama’s words on my lips. He looked at us as in an evaluating gaze, and then spoke in a serious tone.
“Kiss each other here and now.”
““Eh?!””
The Father-sama looked pleased with the reaction we made. Maybe he had already figured out that we’re not really a going out with each other or something.
“F-Father-sama? Th-there’s no way we can’t do that in front of everyone here.”
“Mirai is right. I want to cherish her, so I can’t do something like that,”
We both spoke words to reject his suggestion altogether. As if expecting this to come, Father laughed heartily and continued.
“What are you saying, Mirai? Didn’t you say you were so affectionate that it had even become the talk of the town? Are you saying that it was all a lie?”
“Eh, what, that’s…”
“You said Arrian was head over heels in love with you, or so you said to me.”
“That’s… um…”
Her face turned bright red, and crouched down her face. Had she really being saying such things? Without denying it any of that, she just looked down.
Why did she say a lie like that? While I was still overwhelmed and astonished knowing that, she suddenly grabbed my hand and faced right at me.
“Then, I’ll do it. Arrian… look this way.”
“Eh, for real?”
“Dead serious.”
Saying this, she reached out to my cheek. Her beautiful face drew closer. I have lived my life as a doutei without ever having my first kiss as well.
Will she going to be my first kiss… I decided to let this situation take its course. Though I had always wished that I would share my first kiss with someone I truly loved.
“Please wait a moment!”
A clear voice echoed throughout the room. Startled by that voice, Mirai moved her face away from mine. The voice belonged to Christopher.
“Father-sama. How about I fight him first, and then I’ll kiss her in front of you?”
“I see, that’s a good idea too. As if I’m not give my daughter’s lips to some idiot.”
Having Father-sama’s approval with him, Christopher drew the sword from his waist.
“Ariann-kun, was it? Have a duel with me now.”
“…Fine.”
“Of course, if I win, I’ll take Mirai from you. After all, a weak man can’t protect a woman.”
“Guess that’s correct. But, if I win, swear you’ll never go near Mirai ever again.”
I drew my sword from my waist. It’s a sword worth much less than that which belonged to Christopher-kun’s.
“Arrian… he’s very strong. Even if it’s you…”
“I’ll win. After all, I want Mirai to live freely.”
“Please, come back alive.”
Saying this, she kissed the back of my hand. Blushing slightly, she gave a worried smile. I smiled back at her and headed right to the fighting arena.
