Until we held each other’s hand, it was fun. In a word, it was heavenly. But the situation changed rapidly with passing minute. It’s just like being in a dungeon.

I reassured myself and knocked the door of father-sama’s room.

“Come in.”

His low voice resonated within in my eardrums. I took a deep breath to ease my nerves before entering the room. At that moment back then, the tremble I felt coming from Mirai, was undoubtedly out of the fear with relation to her father.

Maybe she was pretending to be calm? When I once again glanced at her face, I could see a slight stiffness there in it.

“Let’s go, Ariann.”

With just that, she opened the door. There was only her father in the room. Even the maids might have left to give us some privacy.

“It’s been a while, Father-sama.”

Mirai greeted him, but her father didn’t respond. Without changing his intimidating expression, he gestured for us to sit opposite to him.

“Father-sama, nice to meet you. I’m Ariann, who happens to be dating Mirai-san presently.”

“I haven’t heard of anything like that! Mirai, come back home at this moment.”

He shouted right from the middle of my greeting. From his tone, it seemed like he had been suggesting for her to come back home even before and for some time at that, ever since.

“That, I can’t do.”

“And what’s this? Right after you become an adventurer, you bring some unknown inexperienced person here?”

“Dating him and continuing as an adventurer are two different things.”

Mirai stared directly at her father-sama’s scary face and asserted. However, it didn’t seem to resonate with her father-sama’s heart at all.

“Worthless. Mirai, your marriage partner has already been decided. They’re here today to see you as well.”

“I already declined that. I am already in love with Ariann.”

Saying so, she took my hand.

Once the arranged marriage is done and she becomes the wife of the other party, she might be forced to quit being an adventurer all in all. That’s why she wanted to pretend dating with me.

The strength of her grip was firm. She was defintiely scared of her father-sama. I wondered what I could do for her in return, thinking that, I squeezed her hand back with equal force.

I faked to be from the city. Being from a village that had been wiped out in the past would elicit pitying looks from him, and given his eyes, he might even look through it as well.

Saying that, a blond young man entered through the door. A mirror of a Handsome man, with tall stature. There was nothing to criticize about him.

“Idiot. I will have you compete against this man. If you lose, Mirai will marry this person. I doubt a weak man can protect Mirai either way.”

Saying that, father-sama had the blond young man sit beside him.
