Chapter 4 : Endless Possibilities!
When I climbed out of the abyss, many people, including my master, were within my sight.
It wasn’t hard to imagine how much worry I had caused, but not only did I come back from a place deemed inescapable, but I also revealed that a mythical dragon had become my wife. No wonder everyone was shocked… to be honest, even I find it hard to believe.
“Ah… Minato… Minato!”
“Wait, wait, you’re squeezing too hard… my back is creaking, Master!”
I was happy and sorry that she was crying and hugging me, but a little less force would be appreciated… At this rate, my spine might get really damaged!
“Minato-kun, what is this…?”
“What do you mean by having a dragon as your wife…?”
“Y-yes! We’re glad you’re safe! I don’t really care about anything else! What exactly is going on here?”
“Guild Master… please think about others as well…”
I’ve never seen my master so agitated before… I must have worried her greatly. I also caused concern for Saria-san, the receptionist, and Jack, one of the guild’s strongest members and someone I consider as my older brother. Well, it’s time to explain the whole situation clearly.
“Um…”
I told them everything that happened at the bottom of the abyss. Mira-san, the mythical dragon, stood silently behind me, exuding an aura of fear just by being there. However, my master showed no sign of fear, even under Mira-san’s intense gaze. As expected of my master.
“I see… so that’s what happened. So, Minato was half-forced into becoming her partner.”
“Um… Master?”
My master glared intensely at Mira-san who was behind me. Following her gaze, I saw Mira-san looking back with a challenging expression. The air crackled with tension, and I also felt nervous. Mira-san hadn’t even mentioned she could talk yet… I mean, considering the overwhelming presence of a dragon, it was understandable no one asked how I ended up marrying one.
As I was about to explain further, my master stepped forward and slowly bowed her head.
Everyone around us gasped in unison as she raised her head and addressed Mira-san.
“I don’t fully understand the situation yet. However, I apologize for glaring at you earlier. I felt a bit of jealousy seeing my disciple, who is like a son to me, taken away.”
“Master…”
“Thank you for bringing Minato back safely from the abyss.”
My master bowed her head again.
“Heh~, I’ll accept your gratitude. You may not be as long-lived as us, but as an elf, you have lived long indeed.”
“So, you were able to speak after all.”
“Of course. I am a dragon in the true sense.”
Haah… there she goes again, proudly claiming to be a dragon .
“S-she spoke!”
“That’s amazing…!”
Jack and Saria-san’s usual composed selves seem to be falling apart… but let’s put that aside for now. I need to follow up for her.
“Master… Honestly, everything might seem a bit confusing. But I met Mira-san at the bottom of the abyss. Without her, I would have died there.”
“Minato…”
“…..”
“Mira-san helped me, and although I was half-forced into becoming her partner, I consider it fate. Besides, she has promised to take time to deepen our bond. As a man, I can’t ignore such earnest words.”
It wasn’t out of obligation; I truly wanted to cherish this fateful encounter… it’s not so bad after all, right?
Thinking this, I have no complaints about spending my life with Mira-san. In fact, I don’t want her to regret choosing a human like me as her mate.
“Minato.”
“Mira-san?”
She grabbed me with her large arms and pulled me close to her.
“Minato… you may be small to me, but your back seems very large and reliable. I don’t understand human feelings… so I was worried. But your words mean everything to me.”
“Haha, well, you are my wife after all.”
“Minato!”
Her voice sounded almost like a purring cat seeking affection from their master… and her large hands moving seductively made my heart race… Do I have a kink for dragons…?
The atmosphere was peaceful, but it didn’t last long. I noticed some people cowering behind my master… they were the ones responsible for me falling into the abyss.
“By the way, Elf, what is your name?”
“My name is Elysia.”
“I am Mira — Elysia, you and the others must already know that Minato was pushed into the abyss.”
The temperature around us plummeted immediately. This was the result of Elysia-san’s ice magic, a sign of her anger.
“Minato, explain. The ones who caused you to fall into the abyss are here, right?”
“Y-yes!”
It’s already confirmed… even without me saying it, my master fixed her gaze on them. All eyes turned to the man at the front, who began to babble excuses while wetting himself.
“It’s his fault! A lowly commoner lacking in skills shouldn’t receive the Guild Master’s favor—”
Not just him, the other four seemed to share similar sentiments. But their words stopped abruptly… because a scorching heat enveloped them, so intense it evaporated even Master’s cold air.
In an instant, their whole existence vanished without a trace.
“I killed them because they were a nuisance… and I won’t tolerate anyone speaking ill of my husband. Elysia, and everyone else, I’m sure you understand this: anyone who commits a crime against a dragon’s mate will face the same fate.”
Dragons, sometimes bringers of destruction, sometimes of hope. It’s clear that these mythical beings stand at the pinnacle of this world.
Even my master and I couldn’t reproach Mira-san for her actions. My master merely sighed lightly, and I understood the reason for why she acted this way.
“No matter the reason, anyone who attempts to push someone into the abyss faces the death penalty without trial… So whether it happened sooner or later, it was inevitable… I do consider myself cold-hearted as well.”
As she said, anyone who does such a thing is punished without question. Thus, I couldn’t feel much sympathy for their death… it was their deserved punishment.
“However, it seems things will get complicated from here on.”
“I’ll do my best to manage it. Minato, who survived the abyss and married a mythical dragon, will attract a lot of attention from high officials.”
“Ah, right.”
That’s true… there’s that to consider as well.
“Surviving the abyss and marrying a mythical dragon… we can’t let this information leak out.”
After that, my master imposed a gag order on this incident. Still, losing five adventurers would require an explanation to the kingdom… I felt genuinely sorry about that.
“For now, let’s return to the guild.”
It’s fine to return back, but what should I do about Mira-san?
“Mira-san… what will you do now?”
“Hmm? Ah, yes… in this form, I can’t go to the town. Wait, I’ll turn into a human.”
“…Eh?”
Mira-san’s body shone brightly and began to shrink, forming a human shape.
“It’s been a while since I took the human form, but it seems to have worked well.”
“Mira-san… is that really you?”
“Yes, I told you, I’m a dragon. This is easy for me.”
She proudly stood there, her human form more voluptuous than my master’s.
“…Master, dragons are amazing.”
“This is astonishing… but it is thanks to you, that I was able to find out about this while I was still alive… Damn it, If she couldn’t turn into a human, I had a plan to take you back!”
“Master?”
“Hmph, I won’t let anyone take my husband.”
Mira-san hugged me tightly.
Thus, I returned to the guild with Mira-san who had no thoughts of leaving my side.
