Chapter 15 : The Sudden Attraction?
“Hey, Minato-kun?”
“Yes?”
“It’s gotten quite lively, or should I say, it turned out to be amazing.”
“…That’s right.”
Saria-san said as she handed me a cold drink.
The reason for her comment was the scene unfolding before us. Mira-san and Verna-san… I’ve been allowed to call her by her first name as well, but despite the unusual way of meeting, she started showing up frequently.
“If you have something to say to me, just say it and leave.”
“Oh, come on, what’s wrong with me staying a little longer?”
“I don’t have anything to talk to you about.”
“But I do!”
Verna-san turned her body sharply towards me and started to advance in my way.
“I have a desire to talk with him!”
“You’ve got some nerve saying that when he has a wife.”
“Because… because my heart is telling me it wants to be with him! I don’t really get it, but my heart, which is colder than ice, feels warm when I’m around him!”
Well, as Mira-san had mentioned, it seems she has grown attached to me.
Mira-san has once mentioned that her sisters might appear mature but are quite childish. I now realize this is what she meant back then.
However, I believe that impression was of their dragon form, not their current human appearance.
“We’re back!”
“We’re home!”
The loud voices of Master and Jack-san echoed through the bustling guild house. Seeing Verna-san, Master widened her eyes for a moment, but since she already knew about her real identity, she wasn’t that surprised.
Incidentally, aside from us, Master is the only one who knows that Verna-san is a dragon.
“Is Verna-chan here again today?”
“Oye bearded man, could you refrain from calling my name so casually?”
She could even talk with Jack-san on a normal basis.
“I sensed a powerful presence, and here you are again.”
“Sorry about my little sister.”
“It’s fine. But it is quite strange to see… I never thought there would be two dragons here.”
“I feel the same.”
It’s terrifying to think that the power to destroy or conquer the world resides here.
Yet, seeing them in human form and communicating with them eases that fear significantly.
“…Hmm?”
That’s when I felt an ominous atmosphere. I moved Mira-sana and Verna-san into the room behind me, and a large man clad in armor entered through the entrance of the Guild house.
“Excuse me — Ah, there you are, Guild Master.”
“What do you want?”
The man approaching my Master was Shura-san, the captain of the Royal Knights. He is said to be the strongest among the Royal Knights and once had a great duel with Jack-san. In short, he’s incredibly strong.
“Shura.”
“Jack, I’m not here for you today. I’ll negotiate your return to the Knights another time.”
“It’s a waste of effort; I’m not coming back.”
With that, Shura-san, who sighed at Jack-san’s indifference, turned his gaze to Master and spoke.
“Guild Master, won’t you talk about it yet?”
“About the dragons, you mean?”
“Yes.”
Ah, as expected, it’s that topic again.
Since that incident, Master is often approached about her connection to dragons.
Mira-san did warn him back then, but regarding Shura-san, Master responded while glancing around.
“There are only guild members here. What do you really want to say?”
“It’s such a hassle… The King has been annoying me, asking to handle it delicately when he’s been directly warned by a dragon.”
…Well, that’s how it is. The King and the nobles close to him find the power of dragons endlessly alluring. Far more than incorporating elven blood, dragons hold a much greater appeal.
“You’ve got it tough, don’t you?”
“Your sympathy is my only solace… but it just shows how compelling this is, to change the King so much.”
After a brief conversation, Shura-san left. With his departure, Mira-san and Verna-san emerged, and Master muttered softly.
“As expected of dragons, who captivate as much as they terrify… If this continues, maybe leaving the kingdom would be an option.”
“Master?”
“Just kidding.”
Though she laughed it off, other guild members, who heard her words, momentarily had a look in their eyes that said they would surely follow her.
Master had mentioned before that she might leave the kingdom if she ever retired from being the Guild Master to live quietly… If that happens, everyone might truly follow her.
“If trouble persists, you could establish a nation yourself. There were several countries ruled by elves in the past.”
“I don’t have that kind of capability. Besides, I’m enjoying my role as Guild Master right now.”
“A country led by Master… I can really imagine it. It seems like the role of Queen would also suit her.”
“Even you, Minato…”
Though Master sighed tiredly, she also said it might be interesting… Wait, she’s not serious, is she? Seeing her chuckle softly made me a little anxious.
However, with these recurring talks about dragons directed at Master, it will definitely become another source of stress… I’ll need to find a solution, and it’s something I’ll be pondering for a while.
“Minato… you have a troubled look on your face. Umm, what was it called… being a king means being the most important person, right?”
