Chapter 45: Hasumi’s Change

“Good morning, Tsunagi.”

“Good morning, Hasumi.”

Around nine in the morning, Hasumi came over to my house, so I let her into the living room for now. Today, Hasumi was wearing a warm-looking white coat and a skirt that went well below her knees. Her outfit today was different from her usual style, but still fashionable nonetheless.

“Sumire-chan! Good morning~!”

“Tsunagi’s Onee-san… good morning.”

My big sister, who had been in the kitchen, must have noticed Hasumi had arrived, because she came over to us and greeted her.

“Feel free to relax like it’s your own home, okay?”

“Thank you very much.”

After that short exchange, my big sister immediately returned to the kitchen, leaving Hasumi and me sitting together on the living room sofa.

“Hasumi, did you eat breakfast this morning?”

“Nope, I didn’t.”

“That’s perfect. Nee-san said freshly made food is better than cold leftovers, so she timed it to make breakfast right when you were coming over. I think breakfast should be ready soon.”

“I see… She’s really kind, isn’t she?”

Then, Hasumi placed her hand on top of mine and said.

“Would it be sneaky of me to use this precious time alone with you—made possible thanks to your kind Onee-san—as a chance to make a move on you?”

“Huh…!?”

…There was that common saying that love changes a person, and in Hasumi’s case, it seemed to be especially true. Anyway, I really wasn’t in the mood to deal with Hasumi’s “attack” first thing in the morning, so I decided to be honest and call it out as sneaky in hopes she would stop.

“Don’t you think that’s a little unfair? Onee-san is making breakfast right now for us. She’s cooking with us in her mind. So I think we should also look forward to her food with pure hearts and just wait patiently.”

“I see… Then I guess I’m a sneaky girl, huh.”

Saying that, Hasumi suddenly hugged me… Or so I thought, but then she went further and pushed me down onto the sofa.

“Hasumi─”

“It’s okay. Since this couch is so low, the backrest hides us. No matter what we do, your Onee-san won’t be able to see.”

“That’s not the issue here─”

“Which is why, Tsunagi, for example…”

As she said that, Hasumi leaned in close to my face… I thought she was about to kiss me, but her face stopped just short. Then, with a small smile on her face, she said.

“─Even if we do something like this, no one will notice.”

“Whether someone notices or not isn’t the issue here…!”

We stared at each other at that distance for a while, and then Hasumi shifted her gaze to my lips, before returning her eyes to mine and speaking again.

“…Hey, is it really okay if I do it?”

“Of course it’s not!”

“Why not?”

“…Huh?”

“Why is it wrong to kiss you?”

“That’s because…”

Why is it wrong to kiss her?

When she asked me directly, I found myself at a loss for words.

“If you can give me a convincing reason within the next ten seconds, I’ll stop. Ten─”

Hasumi began counting down. Nine, eight, seven… But I still couldn’t come up with a solid reason, and before I knew it, she had counted down to three…

“Two, one─”

Just as Hasumi was about to say the next number—

“Tsumugu~! Sumire-chan~! Breakfast is ready~!”

My big sister called out loudly to us from the kitchen.

“Well, I guess we ran out of time in a different way.”

Saying that, Hasumi pulled away from me and headed toward the kitchen where my big sister was. This anxiety I’d been feeling about the day Hasumi would stay over wasn’t unfounded, after all. I realized that, from the moment the day began that there was absolutely no way today would end without incident.

Trying hard to erase the image of Hasumi’s face that had come so close to mine, I headed to the kitchen to eat breakfast.

Chapter 46: Hasumi’s Jealousy

“So this is Tsunagi’s room?”

“That’s right! This is the room where Tsumugu lives every day!”

While we were eating breakfast earlier, Hasumi said she was curious and wanted to see my room. My room wasn’t special in the slightest. I thought my room was not worth showing off or anything, but I brought her here anyway.

I didn’t have anything particularly embarrassing in here, but still, having someone look around my room like this made me feel a little self-conscious.

“…Onee-san, have you considered maybe stepping out of Tsunagi’s room just for a bit?”

“If I leave this room, you two would be alone in Tsumugu’s room and might do something weird~! Not that I can really talk, since I was the one who slept next to Tsumugu this morning, so if anything, I’m probably the guilty one.”

“…I see. Is that so.”

Hasumi responded to my big sister’s words, but for some reason, she was giving me a cold stare instead. I tried to turn her down, I really did, but I was just too sleepy to resist. My big sister’s advances weren’t something I could do anything against, so please stop looking at me with those scary eyes.

Or so I thought to myself, but it seemed Hasumi could still laugh it off if all we did was sleep next to each other. I didn’t know for sure, but Hasumi seemed to already expect this kind of skinship between me and my big sister. 

However, Hasumi’s expression changed with my big sister’s next words.

“Yep! And also, even though it was just once, I’ve taken a bath with Tsumugu before too! I’ve invited him a few times, but he gets embarrassed and won’t bathe with me—”

While my big sister kept chatting away, Hasumi had completely stopped responding to her and was just staring at me with an icy glare…

Sleeping next to each other might be barely acceptable since we’re siblings, but bathing together is apparently too much even for Hasumi.

As my big sister continued mumbling to herself, Hasumi approached me and said.

“Tsunagi, so you did take a bath with your Onee-san. Was her figure amazing, just like I thought?”

“She had a towel on, so I couldn’t see anything much and it’s not like I asked her to bathe with me in the first place.”

As I tried to explain myself, Hasumi gave me the coldest look I’d ever seen from her and not just her eyes. Her voice also sounded a whole tone lower than usual. Hasumi was the calm type, so I had a hunch she would be really terrifying if she ever got truly angry. But… Her demeanor when she was angry was really something else. She looked really terrifying. 

As I wondered how I could possibly calm her down, Hasumi averted her gaze slightly. Her cheeks tinged with red as she said.

“I’m jealous, you know.”

“…Huh?”

The words that came out of Hasumi’s mouth were completely unexpected, especially considering how frightening she looked just a moment ago. 

Jealous?

“I know your Onee-san has been with you far longer than I have, so it makes sense she’s done more with you than I have… But I want to sleep next to you too. Even if I haven’t loved you for as long, I love you just as much. No, I love you even more than your Onee-san.”

“Hasumi…”

From Hasumi’s expression, I could feel such pure, genuine affection toward me. Just as I was trying to figure out how to respond to that, my big sister, who had been talking to herself all this time, suddenly spoke to Hasumi again.

“Hey, Sumire-chan, would you like to take a bath with me tonight?”

“Eh? With me…?”

“Yeah! Talking with Tsumugu is fun, but chatting with you is super fun too! So? What do you think?”

“If you’re okay with it, then I have no reason to say no… But what about Tsunagi?”

“Like I said before, he only bathed with me that one time and never again. Or do you want the three of us to go in together?”

“No way we’re doing that!”

“See?”

“…I see.”

But despite my big sister’s playful tone, Hasumi looked somewhat relieved. Then, the three of us spent the evening hanging out and watching a movie. When night fell, my big sister and Hasumi said they were going to bathe together and headed off, leaving me alone in the room.

During that time, I decided to think about what Hasumi had said and figure out what I should do when it was time to sleep tonight.
