Chapter 74: Feelings
“…Who is this guy?”
I’ve never seen that face before.
A student… or not, he looks about the same age as my older brother.
“…Hey, show yourself. You’ve messed up my life!”
“…”
Who are you, seriously?
I tried hard to recall, but I had absolutely no memory of that person.
Since I didn’t have even a shred of a memory related to him, I really must’ve never met him.
“…This is really crazy.”
I don’t know who he is, but at least his words imply that he knows where he is.
“Come out, you damn bastard! Shirayuki-chan was supposed to be mine! What the hell are you doing sitting there like you own the place!? You’ve even messed up my family, you piece of shit!”
“…”
Ah, I get it now.
So, it’s not a grudge from my family but from him… I’ve never seen him before, but it seems he’s Nikaido’s youngest son.
Nevertheless, I immediately took out my smartphone.
To contact the police and tell Shirayuki and Hisui that it’s dangerous and they shouldn’t come home yet—just then, a call came in from Hisui.
“Hello, Touma-kun? Don’t leave the house.”
“Hisui?”
“Didn’t I tell you? I’m prepared for anything. I didn’t think he’d actually come.”
…Somehow, I felt instantly reassured by Hisui’s words.
She said she’s prepared for any situation, but was she also anticipating this guy’s moves?
“Come out, you bastard!”
The man on the screen pulled out a knife.
It was a fairly long blade, something that would certainly get you in trouble with the police… huh?
I widened my eyes as I watched the screen.
Because, out of nowhere, a woman appeared behind Nikaido, kicked him in the stomach, sent his knife flying with another kick, and then restrained him.
“…This isn’t a prank, is it?”
“It’s no prank. He was really on the verge of committing a crime. The woman you’re seeing now is Yocchan; she’s my right-hand woman and a martial arts expert.”
“…Wow.”
Things escalated quickly after the woman called Yocchan restrained the man.
Several people who had been waiting on standby and late-arriving police officers were on the scene. It seems like they were waiting for the decisive moment, which in this case was whether the guy would pull out a knife or not.
While he continued to scream without any concern for others as he was being led away by the police, Hisui and the woman who had restrained him were already talking to the police.
“I was really surprised.”
“Shirayuki, you didn’t know about this?”
Shirayuki had also come back and stayed by my side the whole time.
Since neither of us knew what was going on from the beginning, it was understandable that Shirayuki was unaware of the details.
According to Hisui, not only my safety but also Shirayuki’s had been guaranteed. It appeared that the adults would take care of everything perfectly.
“So, this is where being an adult comes into play, huh?”
“Well, we can’t say anything since we were the ones being protected.”
I suppose this is the power that Hisui wields.
Hououin’s influence is considered so vast that there are few things they can’t accomplish; even with the experience of two lifetimes, I don’t know anyone as powerful as them.
Once again, I was reminded of the grandeur of this house and the extent of Hisui’s influence.
After the police left, I found myself introducing myself to her.
“Nice to meet you again. So you are the beloved person Hisui-sama was talking about… You do seem like a great individual.”
“Haha… thank you.”
A woman with a wolf-cut and brown hair, and an androgynous face—her name was apparently Yoshie Kiriyu, Hisui’s right-hand woman.
Kiriyu-san spoke briefly with Hisui after that and gave Shirayuki a big hug before departing.
“Yoshie-san hasn’t changed, has she?”
“Fufu, she’s always been quite fond of Shirayuki. She’s known you since you were little, after all.”
“She’s always been like that… truly a good person.”
It seems there’s a lot I don’t know.
While hoping to learn more whenever they feel like sharing, I had forgotten what today was about due to the earlier incident.
“So, Touma-kun.”
“Is it okay to go inside the house now?”
“Oh, right.”
Well, it can’t be helped.
I was relaxing when suddenly a man with a concealed knife appeared and caused all that commotion.
“…Haah.”
Taking a deep breath, we entered the house.
There were no particular decorations, just a pot on the table filled with meat and vegetables.
“A hot pot, huh?”
“Touma-kun, you prepared this, didn’t you?”
“Yeah. It’s not just because I wanted to eat hot pot. You both knew I was planning something, right?”
Upon asking, they both nodded.
I handed them the letters I had prepared, making sure to include words of gratitude.
“Actually… I wanted to say thank you for everything you’ve done for me so far. I’ve also penned down my feelings for the future in this letter.”
“Touma-kun…”
“So, that’s what this was about.”
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I decided they could read the letters later.
Some of the words of gratitude I had spoken were also in the letters, but I wondered whether it was better to say them directly.
“I’ve expressed my thanks many times before, and we’ve exchanged countless words—but I wanted to create this opportunity to say it once again. Thank you, Shirayuki and Hisui… I am truly happy to have met both of you.”
With an unfamiliar smile, I conveyed those feelings.
Both of them looked somewhat stunned, their mouths slightly open. There’s no doubt that they appeared a bit dumbfounded.
Since none of us spoke for a moment, I clapped my hands together to break the silence.
“So, let’s get to eating! The pot is bubbling nicely—”
Just then, both of them gently hugged me.
I find myself captivated by Shirayuki and Hisui, who look a mixture of embarrassed, pleased, and deeply moved.
“… You always manage to make us happy.”
“I wonder how we’ll feel after reading the letter.”
“Ah, I didn’t write anything too elaborate. My vocabulary is limited, after all.”
As I’ve said before, I wrote down all my feelings for them—expressing both my gratitude for the past and my thoughts for the future.
Hisui almost couldn’t resist opening the letter right away, but somehow held back. We were all about to enjoy a lively dinner for the first time in a while.
“… Haha, I guess it was a huge success?”
After dinner, I found myself satisfied back in my room.
Regardless of what happened with Nikaido, everything else turned out exactly how I’d hoped.
I’m sure they’re reading my letter right now.
I don’t know what they’re feeling or thinking, but if it makes them even a little bit happier, then I’m glad.
“…?”
Just as I thought about lying down in bed, even though it was a bit early, I heard footsteps and then a knock. Shirayuki and Hisui entered.
“Touma-kun!”
“Touma-kun!”
They both leapt into my arms.
They had obviously read the letter thoroughly, and what followed was almost like a review session of the letter, which in turn made me squirm with embarrassment.
(…Well, as long as we can keep smiling like this forever, that’s all that matters.)
As they continued to hug me, their smiles never fading, I thought just that.
