Chapter 13 – What is Sin?
Chikuma Yoko.
That is the name of the girl who approached me yesterday.
I only found out the next day at school.
I heard the name from my teacher.
“Eh? Chikuma Yoko-san from the next class has transferred to a new school today due to her parents’ reasons.”
I didn’t have the impression that the school was so disciplined as to go out of its way to report on kids in other classes.
No way, is this for real?
While my classmates were just listening, I was the only one who shuddered when we were informed of the fact.
When I looked at Sakatoki, she was listening to the teacher’s talk with her cheekbones on the table, looking bored.
I looked at Sakatoki many times, but she never looked at me.
◇
“Hey, what kind of girl was Chikuma-san?”
At recess I asked one of my classmates a question.
Since I’ve been bombarded with questions so many times, let me at least ask this one.
But I’m asking about someone from another class.
The guy just replied with a curt, “Well, she seemed fine.”
Even if I asked such a person, “Was she about to change schools?” he wouldn’t have known.
This is where I gave up prying.
I didn’t want Sakatoki to realize that I was snooping around too much.
I’ve decided to forget about Chikuma-san.
It was during my lunch break when I was finally able to change my mind.
Sakatoki came to me as usual.
“Hey, Kanata-kun, I forgot my lunch today, do you want to go and buy some bread?”
“Yeah, okay.”
In the past few days, I’ve come to a certain degree of agreement on how I’m going to deal with Sakatoki.
Useless resistance is not an option.
The more I do, the more damage I’ll receive, I think.
But I still won’t let my guard down.
I’m just pretending to be her boyfriend.
I don’t know how to push her away, but I’m sure there must be a way.
There is one concern, however…
I’ve kissed her.
No, it would be weird to say that I should marry her or take responsibility just because I kissed her, but it doesn’t change the fact that I did that…
And it was my first kiss.
My first taste was of meat and potatoes.
…That’s not really a reason, but as long as Sakatoki treats me normally, I’ll treat her normally too.
On top of that, I need to look for ways to be disliked by her.
That’s the best I can come up with right now.
“Hey, Kanata-kun, how about that melon bread over there?”
We quickly bought some bread and now we are both sitting on the stairs at the back of the school building.
Just like a couple enjoying an unexpected meeting, the two of us are alone in a secluded place.
I’m a bit scared.
“Hey, Kanata-kun.”
“Ah~, no, this melon bread doesn’t taste good.”
“Hmm. But don’t you think it would taste better mouth-to-mouth?”
“No, it wouldn’t. Mouth-to-mouth with bread is weird.”
“Hmm. You sound like you’ve done it before.”
“N-No way. It’s just that you don’t have to do it to know.”
“Is that so? We tried it last time, it was like a surprise.”
“No, no, that’s not… Besides, we’re in school, remember?”
“So it’s okay if we’re outside school?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“You’re so shy, so cute. Chuu~”
“Nggh!?”
I was kissed normally.
Skip all the mumbo-jumbo about mouth-to-mouth, I simply had my lips taken away from me with her tongue that was intertwining as if licking the inside of my mouth.
I lost the power to resist.
“……”
“Fufu, that felt good.”
“Ah, no…”
“Kanata-kun, your face is bright red. Did the kiss feel good?”
“Well, that’s…”
“I can do anything for Kanata-kun, okay? I don’t care what you do to me. So, please think of me as your girlfriend, okay?”
“…Yeah…”
I responded that way just in case, but…
I wonder what she was really thinking.
Somewhere deep down, I’m beginning to think that it’s okay for her to be my girlfriend.
No, I still hate it.
“…If you’re going to do whatever I say, then don’t kiss me without permission. I…don’t like that kind of thing.”
“Yeah, okay . If Kanata-kun says so, I’ll obey. I’m his girlfriend, after all.”
“……”
Looking at Sakatoki, who did what I said rather easily, I suddenly thought that I might be able to turn the situation around…
If she’ll do anything I say, I could demand that she leaves me for my sake.
While thinking about that, I looked at her, and…
I was kissed again.
“Nnn!?”
“N… Nnn…nn…”
“…Fwah! D-Don’t do that on your own.”
“If you think about it, it’s strange not to be happy when your girlfriend kisses you. That’s why I kissed you.”
“……”
“Besides, there are some requests that you just can’t say anything about. As long as Kanata-kun is my boyfriend, I’ll listen to anything you want.”
“…I know.”
Well, this was bound to happen.
She’s not that stupid.
She’s prepared and she’s smart.
This is not an idea that will work.
“Hey, let’s eat quickly and then go back to class. It’s cold here.”
“Yeah.”
“Are you angry, by any chance?”
“…I’m fine.”
After being kissed like this so many times, I had lost all desire to be angry.
Rather, different emotions now swirl through me.
I just don’t see it for what it is.
If I see it, I know it’s the end for me…
◇
“Well then, don’t get too ruffled during the holidays.”
With those words from our teacher. It was after school, and tomorrow will be the start of our holiday.
A week with the exaggerated name of Golden Week begins.
But I’m not exactly looking forward to a shiny new tomorrow.
“Hey, Kanata-kun, what time do you leave tomorrow?”
“W-What are you talking about?”
“The hot springs. Did you forget?”
“……”
I was asked by Sakatoki while leaving school.
Of course, I remembered.
My intention was to stay quiet, but I guess It’s futile to resist.
However, there is still some time until tomorrow.
I’m trying to think of a way to escape.
“…Speaking of which, I was thinking of doing some cleaning over the holidays.”
“Oh, that’s okay. I’ll do it for you today.”
“N-No, that would be terrible.”
“Is it perhaps because you don’t want to go to the hot springs with me?”
“T-That’s…”
“It’s strange. It’s strange that you don’t want to travel with your girlfriend. That means you don’t like me, right?”
We should be at the flat soon.
Sakatoki’s appearance becomes clouded.
The tone of her voice gradually lowers.
“Hey, how about it, Kanata-kun? Hey, is that true?”
Hearing her voice made me more and more irritated.
I was scared, but I was still angry, wondering why she should get mad at me for turning down the advances of a person who wasn’t even my girlfriend.
“S-Shut up! What I do and who I do it with is my business! Leave me alone.”
Raising my voice, Itold Sakatoki.
I quickly climbed the stairs to my apartment and went back to my room.
She froze in place, but I didn’t care, I went into my room and locked the door.
I used the wire I had in my room to wrap around the doorknob.
I was confined, I told myself.
I got a strange feeling of excitement, but still fear.
I’m afraid she’s going to do something outrageous again because I did this.
She could smash down the front door or break in through the balcony.
However, I can’t stay in fear of such things and stay in her delusion forever.
I had the courage to tell her.
Now she knows how I feel.
“Pin-pon.”
The doorbell rang.
It must be Sakatoki.
“Kanata-kun. Kanata-kun.”
I heard her calling me.
But of course, I wouldn’t comply.
“…Kanata-kun. Do you hate me?”
Don’t ask me that.
Before even hating her… How can I open up to a stalker?
“Does my presence bother you?”
Yeah, you’re a nuisance.
I’d like to tell her that, but right now I’d only be doing her a favor.
Go ahead and be desperate and depressed on your own.
“Haha… Hahaha. That’s strange. Kanata-kun isn’t the kind of person to say such horrible things. You must have had a bad day at school.”
Sakatoki started talking.
What is she talking about?
I’ve had some bad experiences, but that’s only because you’ve been following me around.
Otherwise it would be peaceful.
“I wonder who. Is it the boy you were talking to this morning? Or that girl you thought was coming here instead of me? I can’t forgive anyone for making Kanata-kun suffer.”
No, you should know that the problem here is you.
Why are you the only one out of options?
“Okay, Kanata-kun. I’ll go kill them now.”
…What?
I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard her talking from the other side of the doorway.
Did she say she was going to kill them?
“I don’t know who’s to blame anymore. I’m going to kill them all. I’ll make them suffer and die in pain. Ah, and then, praise me, Kanata-kun. Tell me I did a good job.”
This must be a joke.
How could anyone be so ridiculous as to kill everyone in the class?
And there’s no way she can do it.
It’s not possible to do such a big thing.
I would like to believe that, but…
Chikuma-san is on my mind.
Was it really a coincidence that she changed schools?
“Hey, Kanata-kun. There was a girl who transferred today, right? I took the trouble to keep her alive, but now I’m going to have to erase her. I’m sorry, but it can’t be helped. Anyone who hurts Kanata-kun shouldn’t be alive.”
After that, Sakatoki went quiet…
I’m wondering if I should just leave her like this.
I think it’s a lie nine times out of ten, but on the off chance that she’s telling the truth…
If tomorrow, all my classmates were to go missing…
It would be too late.
What the hell is this woman…
She’s too dangerous… But I have to stop her.
I went to the front door and shakily removed the wire…
At that moment…
A doorknob that I hadn’t even touched yet turned with a clunk.
The front door opened with a creaking sound.
“Ahaha, I found Kanata~kun~♪”
“S-Sakatoki… You set me up.”
“Hmm?”
Sakatoki peeked in with half her body and smiled.
I knew she was bluffing.
Just when I thought I should have left her alone, her hidden half revealed itself.
“…Eh?”
“What’s wrong, Kanata-kun?”
“A-A knife?”
In her right hand was a kitchen knife.
It seems to be a slightly long and large knife that cuts well.
“Oh, this? This here looks like it would hurt when you use it to cut ears. And it stings a lot, you know? Why don’t you try it, Kanata-kun?”
“S-St..stop…”
“Hey, do you hate me?”
“Well, that’s…”
“Do you hate me?”
“Um…”
“Hey.”
She pointed the knife at me.
I was so terrified that I slumped over on the spot.
As I backed away, I looked at her.
“Answer. Do you hate me?”
“D-Do you think it’s okay to do this?”
“What?”
“It’s a crime, you know?”
“What is?”
“What do you mean, ‘What’? It’s obvious.”
“The only sin for me is betraying Kanata-kun, okay? Everything else is not a sin. All of these things are necessary for love to grow.”
“I-If I gave in to the threats and went out with you… Would you still be happy?”
I’m scared, but…
I’m already shitting my pants.
Having lost my escape, I mustered up my voice and feelings.
I wonder if love held back by fear is what she wants.
However, Sakatoki laughed at the question.
Amused, she raised her voice.
“Ahaha, you cared about that, Kanata-kun. You’re so kind.”
“K-Kind? W-Why?”
“You see, what I want is to be with Kanata-kun all the time, you know that, right?”
“E-Even so…”
“That’s why I don’t really care what the reason is, as long as Kanata-kun chooses to be with me.”
“…But…”
“If we stay together, you’ll never want to leave me. I’m confident. I’m sure I can make you happy, Kanata-kun. So will you stay with me?”
While saying this, she lowered the cutting edge of the knife.
I finally gulped down a mouthful of spit when I saw that.
“…Okay. I’m sorry. So get that thing off me.”
I’ve been broken.
I’ve come to realize that I can’t deal with her any more than I can deal with a normal person.
“Really? So you’ll stay with me tomorrow?”
“…You won’t accept if I say no, right?”
“Yes, that’s right. I’ll stay with you.”
“…Alright.”
I have no choice but to think positively about the current situation.
I can only think that because of my breakdown, she didn’t become a murderer and my classmates didn’t become victims.
She can do it.
I knew I had lost when I was made to feel that way.
If this is what she’s expecting and has been instilling fear in me, I don’t know what she’s capable of.
“Hey.”
Sakatoki approached me, still holding the knife in her right hand…
“W-What?”
“Do you want to kiss~?”
“H-Huh?”
“I want to make up with you~…”
“……”
Why would I do that with a woman with a knife?
I was about to say that, but then I gulped again.
I can’t go against her now. I’ll do as I’m told.
“Okay.”
“Yay♪ Then…”
“Y-You want me to do it?”
“Yeah. I wish Kanata-kun would do it first.”
“……”
Fearfully, I pressed my lips to hers.
I kissed her with a fear that she would stab me with a knife while kissing me, a tension that was unparalleled when I kissed her for the first time.
Then the knife fell to the floor with a clatter.
As we were, she put her arms around me and pressed her lips deeply against mine.
Her eyes were filled with tears as she gently pulled away.
“…I’m happy.”
“B-Because of the kiss?”
“No. Because Kanata-kun kissed me.”
“I-Is that so…?”
“Yes. I love you, Kanata-kun.”
Saying that, she gently loosened her hand as if crawling over my body.
She then picked up the knife, turned around and put her hand on the front door knob.
“I’m sorry for making you angry today. I’ll reflect on myself.”
“…No, it’s okay.”
“Fufu, Kanata-kun is really kind.”
She then walked out, and just as the front door was about to close, she said, “Oh, yes”, as if she had just remembered something, and she continued…
“If the same thing happens next time, someone will really die.”
Those words were left in the room.
And the front door was shut.
