Chapter 138: The Finale
(…It’s about time, I guess.)
As evening approached, the Haishin event that had been planned was nearing its grand finale. Not that there was anything more to expect, but after announcing it a long time ago and going through extensive preparations, today’s event was coming to an end. This brought a slight sense of loneliness to Kanata.
After a noisy festival ends, everything becomes quiet. This was a common feeling, whether it was enjoying a festival with friends or after school events, wanting it not to end because it was so much fun.
(I might have been the main focus of the event, but I enjoyed it as if I were just another spectator.)
Yes, Kanata truly had a great time.
During the downtime, when he wasn’t speaking, he observed how people around him were having fun. Watching women getting flustered over the ASMR he worked on, or men shouting out at the audio experiences, made him quietly laugh.
Reflecting on it, Kanata created truly enjoyable memories.
(Coming to the Empire was a good decision.)
He felt endlessly grateful: to Rosalynde, who invited him, to himself for deciding to go through with it, and to the many people who supported and cooperated with him.
“Haishin-dono, it’s about time for the closing remarks.”
“Yeah.”
Kanata nodded at Rosalynde’s words and once again stood up on the stage.
This event was live-streamed from start to finish, and comments from all over the world were still coming in non-stop.
There were several names that kept reappearing in the comments, indicating those people had been watching since morning.
“…It’s really ending, huh?”
Kanata keenly picked up on the voices filled with disappointment.
The event was coming to an end. Although Kanata felt a sense of accomplishment, there was also a shared feeling of sadness and regret among the attendees.
Since Kanata rarely makes public appearances as Haishin, people were probably wondering when they would see him next and if there would be another event like this.
“Thank you, everyone, for today.”
It was truly regrettable.
But, as they say, all good things must come to an end. Under his mask, Kanata smiled contentedly as he spoke.
“I’ve been looking forward to today… I had the motivation a few days ago, but I wasn’t sure if we would succeed. There was a lot of anxiety.”
Everyone present was silently focused on Kanata’s voice.
Unbeknownst to them, there had been an incident where another country hired an assassin to target Kanata, but the perpetrator quickly confessed the truth, so it didn’t escalate into a major issue.
Rosalynde was furious, of course, but she would only take revenge after everything was over. Thus, Kanata’s role was to ensure the event ended on a positive note, celebrating its success.
“Yeah… I was filled with nothing but anxiety. But then, it turned out like this. You guys really went over the top.”
Kanata said, and the crowd laughed in response.
While he couldn’t see each person’s face, Kanata made a mental note to remember as many smiling faces from this moment as possible.
“And I had the time of my life too… I was so tired during the breaks that I just lay down and snored. But that’s how much fun it was… Seriously, I’d love to have this kind of opportunity again and again!”
When Kanata raised his hand as he said this, the excitement in the venue spiked once more.
Bathing in the crowd’s energy, Kanata finally delivered the closing words for the event.
“Everyone, thank you so much for today! Let’s meet again!!”
And so, the Haishin event held in the Empire came to a close.
But… the event was over, yet there were still activities left for Kanata.
The public part might have ended, but what came next was not live-streamed – the after-party to celebrate the hard work, the wrap-up party.

(…I’m so hungry… I need food.)
Kanata thought, his stomach growling uncontrollably.
There had been a banquet on his first night in the empire, but tonight’s dinner and after-party were even more lavish than before.
The amount of food was incredible, and in the corner of his eye, he saw Mira splitting into five to devour the feast… Huh? Normal people don’t split into multiples, you say? Well, she’s Mira, isn’t she?
(…I’ve pretty much finished greeting everyone, and now I really want to eat.)
Being Haishin, Kanata couldn’t take off his mask in public.
He thought about lifting it slightly to eat through a gap, but such actions could lead to a big mishap. So, Kanata had no choice but to keep up his role as Haishin.
“Good job out there, Haishin.”
“Rosa…”
Not only Rosa, but Anise was also there.
Thinking about it, Anise was famous in the Empire alongside Fest, but that didn’t mean they were particularly close to Haishin.
Yet now, it seemed entirely natural for both to be by Haishin’s side.
“I… I need to talk about something.”
“What is it?”
“Say anything!”
“I… I’m really hungry.”
When he confessed this honestly, both suddenly realized what he meant.
Just then, his stomach growled loudly, and Rosalynde hurriedly apologized.
“That’s right… You didn’t eat during that live stream when you were eating skewers in the kingdom… Ah, wait, that wasn’t you exactly.”
“Hey, Rosa-sama? How about we take a break because we’re tired, and let Kanata switch back in?”
“Of course.”
And so, Kanata’s wish was granted.
Though there were disappointed murmurs from the crowd, including nobles from other countries who wished to get closer to Haishin, Kanata quickly retreated to the dressing room.
After changing, he returned to the venue, well-hidden and out of sight.
“…Alright, let’s eat!”
Kanata couldn’t wait any longer and started devouring his meal as if to say he couldn’t hold back anymore.
Rosalynde wasn’t around, but Anise stayed close to him the whole time.
Watching Kanata eagerly eat the Empire’s dishes like a little kid, Anise’s smile was so beautiful it could captivate anyone.
“I wish I could send some of this back home. I want my mom and everyone else to try it too.”
“We can actually do that, you know?”
“Really?”
Kanata was filled with gratitude.
Given all the thanks he has received from so many people, asking for this didn’t seem like too much.
Fest was also at the venue and came over.
“You’re really going at it with your meal, aren’t you?”
“Hey, Fest!”
Kanata’s cheeks were stuffed with food as he greeted him.
Anise and Fest, being good friends with Kanata, couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
“…Look at that commoner. Some people don’t seem to know where they belong.”
“Don’t say that. But I agree—having such a dirty person at this kind of event is almost a crime.”
A man and woman, dripping in jewelry and exuding elegance, made those remarks about Kanata.
Kanata didn’t miss the moment Anise and Fest’s expressions changed.
