Cid raised his voice, and Kanata and Mira seemed to wonder why he was making such a surprised face at this point.

Mira, interrupting Cid’s voice, drew her sword slightly – a sign to stay silent since they were tailing someone.

Despite the sudden threat of a drawn sword by a petite and cute girl, Cid didn’t show any fear. Instead, he willingly accepted the blame, sealing his lips. It was too late; Cid had already been influenced by Kanata and the others.

Mira promptly assessed the situation and reported to Kanata.

Kanata nodded, reassured by Mira’s words, and focused on what their target was planning. 

The leader had repeatedly mentioned “true companions.” Kanata was already suspicious of them, almost certain of their guilt, but what exactly were they up to?

“Hey Riddle, we’re comrades, right?”

“Uh? Of course, we are. I trust you all for accepting me… and you always said we’re true companions, didn’t you?”

Kanata glanced at Cid, as if to say, “See that?”

Cid, who had been suspicious of the conversation from the start, seemed not to have anticipated it turning out to be true.

Even if Mira wasn’t there, Kanata would have taken action.

The man pulled out something. 

It looked like a silver cup, seemingly harmless to Kanata, but Mira, possibly recognizing it, opened her mouth to speak.

“That is most likely… a magic item known as the ‘Blessing of Blood.’ Pouring the blood of one human into that cup continuously bestows immense magical power to the user.”

“But won’t it overflow if you keep pouring blood into it?”

“Before it overflows, the blood gets absorbed by the cup. It’s silver now, but it will turn as red as blood eventually. However, such a dangerous magic item shouldn’t be available in the market. Even if someone managed to get it, it would require a tremendous amount of money.”

“…I see.”

“Is such a sinister item even real?”

Kanata had never heard of the ‘Blessing of Blood’ before. It seemed that even Cid was unaware of it, indicating how deeply buried in obscurity the item was.

“So, when you say the blood of a single human… you mean literally more blood than would be fatal, right?”

Mira continued speaking calmly, but both Kanata and Cid’s faces paled. The mere imagination of such a scene was cruel enough, even without witnessing it.

“Don’t joke around! Are you telling me to die!?”

The moment the man raised his voice, one of the women around him activated a spell. 

Riddle, the one addressed earlier, found himself bound by magical chains, struggling desperately but unable to escape.

“Talking about true companions, huh? How ironic.”

“What should we do?”

“Isn’t there any punishment for using that item?”
