Chapter 110: Unveiling the Minimum Output ASMR
“…”
Kanata briefly glanced toward the bed.
There lay Anise in a completely drained state, sticking out her tongue loosely and wearing an incredibly content expression.
Every now and then, her body quivered oddly, prompting Kanata to quickly shift his gaze away and towards Alphana.
“Kanata-sama, may I propose the next scenario?”
“Uh, sure!”
The reason for this dire situation was undoubtedly the ASMR testing.
Remarkably, even when Anise collapsed, Alphana didn’t change her expression. She occasionally smiled as if to reassure Kanata.
“For the next scenario, I would like it to be a little mischievous. I am a saint but I’m whimsical and don’t listen to others. I want you to act like a servant who advises me in a similarly mischievous manner.”
“Okay.”
While Kanata found her request unusually specific, these proposals generally followed this pattern. Alphana seemed to know exactly what the audience wanted for ASMR, which made things easier for him.
After some adjustments with Alphana and Anise, it was decided to test the minimum output during today’s livestream.
“Thank you for your hard work, Kanata-sama.”
“Uh, good work, Kanata.”
Kanata thought of lending his shoulder to the weakened Anise, but Alphana beat him to it and offered hers instead.
Still, having friends and collaborators like them was invaluable. Kanata planned to thank them on another day as he returned to his room.
“Today, let’s skip the fan mail and go straight to casual talk.”
With that decided, Kanata promptly went for a bath to gather his energy.
He then idly spent time until dinner, eating a lonely meal without talking to anyone. But as soon as it was time for the stream, he switched gears, and his enthusiasm shot through the roof.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, everyone! Let’s start the stream!”
And so began another session of live streaming.
Today, he wouldn’t read any fan-mail and, instead, engage in casual chatter. Understanding the vibe, listeners began to flood the comments section.
After all, casual talk streams were just like conversations with the listeners.
“By the way, I wonder how many countries there are in this world… I mean, we have the Kingdom, Empire, and Principality, not to mention bigger and smaller nations, right?”
: Never really thought about it.
: If you include the Demon Kingdom, there’s probably a ton, right?
: How far does the world even go?
“Well, no matter how far you go, you’ll eventually come back to the same place, right? You know, like the world is spherical.”
: Spherical?
: Doesn’t the horizon just keep going?
: Is there a continent beyond the sea?
: What are you talking about, Haishin-kun?
: Are you displaying your lack of education? Are you okay?
Kanata tilted his head at the comments, belatedly realizing that perhaps the concept of a spherical Earth didn’t exist in this world.
(… Come to think of it, I’ve never considered it. Is this world, Ataraxia, like Earth? If you keep going towards the edge, will you eventually end up in a completely unfamiliar place?”
He then continued the discussion in the comments, discovering that no one seemed to have gone to the ‘edge’ of the world.
No records existed, and in fact, nobody had ever really cared about it.
Given that an ocean was always said to be beyond their continent, it appeared as if people didn’t bother to explore further.
(In my previous life, world maps were always a single sheet… but did people not realize that the edges could be connected? Well, this is another world, so it probably doesn’t matter.”
The lingering question remained: why was Kanata so sure that the world was spherical?
Some listeners, probably geographers or the like, began to use specialized terms. Kanata managed to dodge the issue, feeling a bit nervous.
“Ahem! Well, there’s one more thing I’d like to do today.”
And so… that time finally arrived.
Leaving behind the listeners who were flooding the comments with questions, Kanata switched the topic to ASMR, revealing that it was one of the items he planned to showcase in the Empire.
“They say seeing is believing, so don’t worry, I’ve tested this out a bit! Listeners, would you mind accompanying me for a bit?”
: Don’t quite get it, but okay!
: What are you going to do!?
: Really looking forward to it!
: I’m getting nervous!
“Good, good, looks like I’ve got your attention.”
Thanks to the cooperation of female participants, the power of ASMR was already proven.
However, Kanata didn’t want to utter awkward lines to an indefinite number of people all at once. So, he decided to perform a reading drama for the time being.
“I’m going to recount a story from memory under unique conditions. Please let me know afterwards how it felt and sounded,” He conveyed before starting.
(Let’s set this up like this… Alright, here we go.)
Kanata flipped on the binaural microphone switch, minimized the magic settings and other variables, and began speaking.
“Once upon a time, in a place far, far away—”
It was a folk tale that Kanata knew well.
He wasn’t particularly changing his way of speaking; he was simply curious about how the listeners on the other end would react.
To summarize, the experiment was a great success.
By severely limiting the magic power and machine output, his voice became soothing and had just the right amount of inflection to rattle the listener’s brain a bit.
: Whoa… I’m getting sleepy.
: Right? Can’t stop yawning.
: I’ve been struggling with insomnia recently, but with this… I might be able to sleep.
: Oh, did you fall asleep?
: This is good… Might help me sleep well.
Such was the praise in the comments.
Kanata chuckled wryly, thinking it was a good thing he hadn’t blindly followed Alphana’s words when she said, “Go all out.” Adjusting the output from here, he could explore various ways to entertain the audience.
“For the female audience, if I increase the output a bit, I could probably give you a more intense, pleasurable experience. I’m considering releasing a variety of tones like ‘teasing voice’ or ‘gentle voice’… It’s embarrassing, but maybe they could be voices worth saving? If any listeners want them, please buy them!”
By the way, the lowest-output ASMR seemed to possess a sleep-inducing effect. It could even establish itself as an effective treatment for people suffering from insomnia due to stress in the not-so-distant future.
