Chapter 80: A Day in the Life of That Surprisingly Unknown Girl [Satsuki Sumeragi]
When I wake up in the morning and open the curtains, sunlight floods the room.
Basking in that light, I stretch to loosen my body, then sit on the floor to meditate.
After that, I do some light yoga to warm up.
Still feeling the heat in my body, I strip off my clothes and walk to the bathroom.
No one crosses my path on the way.
I toss my clothes into the laundry basket and step into the bath.
This house’s bathroom is, delightfully, made of hinoki cypress, giving it a warm, calming vibe.
The water is always kept fresh and ready, making it perfect for a morning soak.
I rinse off with a quick splash, scrub my body with soap and a sponge, then ease my feet into the tub.
The water’s just the right kind of hot for me.
I soak for about five minutes, then step out to douse myself with cold water from the shower.
Back into the tub I go.
It’s called a hot-cold alternating bath, and it feels amazing.
I repeat the cycle three times, and a gentle warmth spreads from deep within.
In the changing area, I dry my wet body and hair, slip on underwear, and head back to my room.
“Good morning, President.”
“Morning, Shoma-shoma.
You’re up early.”
“No match for you, though.
Not naked today, huh?”
“Hm, I can’t help being the naked character, but I’m not always naked, you know.”
“Then wear clothes regularly.”
“Hahaha, I’ll think about it.”
Back in my room, I get ready for school and do a quick clean.
We have a rule to keep our personal spaces tidy ourselves, so it’s just routine.
Heading down to the living room, I find everyone there.
Hazuki and Mutsuki still look half-asleep, but we try to eat together whenever possible, so I follow suit.
Hm!
Good discipline.
“Well, I’ve got student council stuff, so I’m heading out first!”
“Have a good one.”
“See ya, yup.”
“You’re always so early, President~”
“Later~”
“Take care, Satsuki-chan.”
…
“Good morning, everyone!”
“Good morning, President.”
“Morning.”
“This week’s about prepping for the cultural festival, right?”
When I arrive at school, I stop by the student council room (the general one).
The council’s busy with morning greetings, checking for latecomers, handling requests from teachers and clubs, and more.
Plus, the cultural festival is next week.
“Right, first up is morning greetings and tardy checks.”
“I’ll handle that~”
“Count on you.”
After that, I attend classes with everyone until lunch.
During lunch, I use the time to work on paperwork and reports for various committees, so I don’t get much downtime.
The afternoon brings more classes, followed by student council duties.
I haven’t been to the hobby club lately…
I think about that, but the president’s job is crucial, so I can’t slack off.
Teachers and students trust me, and I can’t let them down.
For the teachers’ expectations.
For everyone’s expectations.
For the community’s expectations.
For my parents’ expectations.
“…Huh?
Why am I here, anyway?”
In the student council room, bathed in the evening sun, that thought suddenly hits me.
What am I working so hard for?
No one’s there to give me the answer.
