The Boy Who Gave Up on Romantic Feelings ~I’m Done Because I Was Betrayed by The Girlfriends I Used to Date~ - Chapter 52-53
Chapter 52
Let me tell you what happened afterward.
I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance and managed to survive thanks to emergency treatment. Shirasawa was there with me at that time. It meant a lot to me.
It seemed that when Kuroka tried to hand over Yamashiro to the police who arrived, he was almost mistaken for a molester. Somehow, both Yamashiro and Kuroka were taken into custody, but Kuroka were able to avoid false accusations with the help of surveillance camera footage nearby.
After about two months of treatment, I was able to leave the hospital and return home. Initially, I felt restless and unable to do anything while in the hospital. Above all, not being able to participate in club activities made me quite depressed. I wanted to move my body, but the pain from the wound in my abdomen prevented me from doing so. On top of that, there was nothing to watch on TV either.
So, I started studying, something I had neglected until then. Even though it was middle school problems, it felt quite challenging for me, but once I got a hold of it, it wasn’t a problem. Still, it was tough. After all, I’ve always hated studying.
Before I knew it, two months had passed in the blink of an eye. It felt surprisingly quick. I got back to school and got to see my classmates, Kuroka and Shirasawa again. However, it was clear that they felt somewhat awkward around me. Well, considering what happened, it’s understandable. I had mentally prepared myself for that, but experiencing it firsthand was quite saddening.
So, I decided to call them together after school to have a discussion.
“……”
“……”
“……”
The atmosphere was really awkward, making it difficult to speak.
And as time passed, we naturally stopped hanging out with each other.
Yamashiro made me lose my friends. She is a truly selfish being. Nothing good comes from getting involved with her.
That’s why I left that city. I asked my dad so.
I haven’t heard much about what happened to her afterward. But I do know from her mother that, she was arrested and then went to a psychiatric hospital. I was quite frustrated that the case was not prosecuted due to the results of her psychiatric evaluation, but I longer care about her.
“…I see.”
“Yeah, I had forgotten all about it until now. I wonder why.”
“It’s probably because it was too painful for you.”
“What do you mean?”
“Your heart couldn’t handle it. So naturally, you sealed those memories away. So, rather than saying you forgot, it’s more accurate to say that they were sealed away.”
“…I see.”
That makes sense. After moving from that city, there was a day when I suddenly forgot all about it. So…I was suffering more than I thought, huh? My life is really messed up.
“…well, let’s go to bed for now.”
“Hmm? Ah—”
I look at the time and notice it’s already past 11 PM.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize it’s already this late.”
“No worries. I’m glad we talked about it. Now we can come up with a plan.”
“…you haven’t forgot that university starts soon, right?”
“Of course not.”
“Alright, as long as you remember…”
It’s absolutely certain that Yamashiro, who didn’t even graduate from high school, won’t be able to enrol to our university. Moreover, our university is actually one of the most prestigious universities in the prefecture. Yamashiro shouldn’t have what it takes to enrol to our university. I know her grades from middle school, it was quite bad. So, it should be fine…right?
…I’m starting to feel really anxious for some reason.
Chapter 53
A few days after Sayaka stayed over at my place, the day of the university entrance ceremony finally arrived.
“…it’s today, huh?”
“Yeah, it is.”
The university is crowded with many people, most of whom are freshmen like me and Sayaka.
“Well then, shall we go?”
“Yeah.”
After completing various procedures at the office, we proceed to enter the venue. Since we don’t join any clubs or circles, we haven’t entered the gymnasium until the entrance ceremony.
“I’m nervous…”
“I’m so sleepy that I might fall asleep.”
“You can’t fall asleep, okay?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
While chatting about trivial matters, we eagerly wait for the entrance ceremony to begin.
Finally, around 9:30 AM, the entrance ceremony begins.
“In the year 4 of Reiwa, the opening ceremony of XX University is commencing. Please rise.”
The announcement echoes throughout the gymnasium.
For some reason, I can’t remember much about the rector’s speech. I later found out from Sayaka that I was half asleep through the entire speech.
Then, the entrance ceremony goes on.
It ends around 10:30 AM.
After making small talks and getting to know with the people there, we leave the venue.
“Alright, shall we head back?”
“Yeah, sounds good.”
During the ceremony, I got scared halfway through and looked around to see if Yamashiro was there, but thankfully, she wasn’t. Now I can go back home feeling relieved.
After leaving the university, we stopped by a nearby family restaurant for lunch, and once we finished, we head back to my house.
“Tomorrow will probably just be some simple introductory stuff, right?”
“Most likely.”
“Well, they only mentioned it as an orientation.”
Suddenly, my phone vibrates. It startled me, I cautiously take out my phone.
What if it’s Yamashiro…?
I thought so in my mind.
When I check the sender ID,
“Ah…it’s Kotaro.”
“Miyazaki-kun? Isn’t today his entrance ceremony too?”
“Yeah. So maybe he wants to hang out or something?”
“Anyway, just open his message.”
I quickly read his message.
“Hmm?”
“What happened?”
“His entrance ceremony…it’s been postponed.”
“Is that it? Oh, sorry, I shouldn’t say ‘is that it’…”
“Ah, he also said, ‘Let’s hang out sometime later. The four of us’.”
“The four of us?”
“Yeah, seems like he got a girlfriend.”
“Eh!?”
Sayaka can’t hide her surprise at my words. Deep down, I feel the same way as Sayaka. I never thought that he would get a girlfriend.
“Did he send any pictures of her?”
“Yeah, here you go.”
“Wow! She’s so cute!”
“Yeah, she is.”
“…hmphh.”
Sayaka pouts.
“Hmm? What’s wrong?”
“I’m not expecting you to say something like, ‘You’re cuter’, or anything like that, you know.”
Ah, that’s right…I shouldn’t have simply said another girl is ‘cute’ in front of my girlfriend.
“Sayaka is way cuter, though.”
“……thankyou.”
By the way, we’re still in the middle of the street. Sayaka hasn’t noticed that people passing by are giving us warm looks. I’m feeling super embarrassed right now. Just a moment ago, a guy we passed by was looking at us with tears in his eyes. He must have been so jealous.
“Come on, let’s go.”
“…y-yeah.”
“Hmm? Why are you stuttering?”
“N-No, it’s nothing! C-Come on, let’s go!!!”
“O-Okay.”
Ah, my girlfriend is really cute after all.
