The Boy Who Gave Up on Romantic Feelings ~I’m Done Because I Was Betrayed by The Girlfriends I Used to Date~ - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
A week after I caught Hanamoto cheating on me, I returned to school.
When I arrived at school and entered the classroom, everyone inside looked at me with surprise.
I took my seat, and then Kotaro, who was sitting behind me, started talking to me.
“Hey, are you okay? the rumour has spread throughout the whole school, you know?”
“…ah, you mean the one about us breaking up?”
“Yeah, is it true that you hurt Hanamoto-san with harsh words and dumped her?”
“—huh?”
“Don’t ‘huh’ me, tell me if it’s true or not.”
“What are you talking about? There’s no way that’s true.”
“But that rumour is spreading like wildfire right now. The rumour said that you insulted Hanamoto-san a week ago and dumped her just like that.”
Why is it turning out like this? It doesn’t make any sense.
She is the one who dumped me, right? She is the one who cheated on me.
I’m the one who got hurt.
“Do you know where the rumour came from?”
“Hmm? Ah, it’s Otsuki. He seems to be the one who started that rumour.”
Otsuki…
If I remember correctly, he’s in the same class as me…!?
Could it be, at that time…on that day, Hanamoto’s current boyfriend…
“…I see. Kotaro, please give me a hand. I feel like throwing up.”
“What!? W-Wait, you should’ve said that earlier!”
With that, both me and Kotaro rushed into the restroom.
I vomited my stomach out.
“Ugh…”
“What the hell happened? Suddenly puking like that…”
“Sorry, when I heard that rumour earlier, it brought back some traumatic memories…”
“Throwing up from a trauma, that sounds serious! What the hell happened!?”
After that, I told Kotaro everything that happened a week ago.
I thought that I might feel a bit lighter after talking about it.
“…I see. That’s…how should I say it…”
“You don’t need to. I don’t need pity. It’s all my fault from the beginning. I—”
“That’s not true! After hearing your story, it’s clear that she’s in the one in the wrong here!”
“Thanks…really.”
“…don’t worry about it. So, why is Hanamoto still absent?”
“She’s absent?”
“Yeah, she isn’t coming to school today either.”
“Why is she absent?”
“I don’t know.”
“I see…”
Why isn’t Hanamoto coming to school? Isn’t she supposed to be getting along well with her new boyfriend?
At that moment, the school announcement rings.
“Year 1, Class 3, Shintani Maeshima, please come to the teacher’s office immediately.”
—huh?
“Why…”
“It’s probably about the rumour. I’ll come with you.”
“…thanks.”
With that, both me and Kotaro headed to the staff room.
Then, we were directed into the student guidance room.
In front of us was my homeroom teacher, Hitomi Momogaya.
“Take a seat.”
“…yes.”
“Miyazaki-kun, please return to the classroom.”
“But…”
“Kotaro, thank you. I’ll be fine.”
“…alright.”
Kotaro left the student guidance room.
After he left, I turned towards my homeroom teacher.
“Well then, Maeshima-kun, do you understand why you were called in?”
“Yes.”
“Is it true that you dumped Hanamoto-san?”
“No. That’s not true.”
“But everyone in school is saying that you dumped her, right?”
“I didn’t dump her. In fact…!? Ugh…!”
“Maeshima-kun! What’s wrong!?”
“I’m sorry, do you have a plastic bag…ugh!”
“Y-Yeah.”
Every time I tried to talk about it…I felt like I was going to vomit.
I really hate myself, why am I this weak?
“What happened? Suddenly throwing up like that…”
“Because…I remember what happened a week ago clearly as day.”
“You’re telling me that you threw up just from that…?”
“Just from that? What do you mean by that?”
“Eh?”
“Just from that… I’ve been trying to get it out my head this past week. No matter what, I can’t forget it…that’s…”
“…can you tell me what happened?”
“…yes.”
And so, I explained to my homeroom teacher what happened, just like I explained it to Kotaro.
“…I see…so that’s what happened. The rumour about you dumping Hanamoto-san started from Otsuki, and he is the one who had sex with your girlfriend…I find it hard to believe, but…”
“I think you can find out whether my story is true or not by checking the surveillance camera near my class.”
My school is a private school, and there are security cameras installed near the entrance of each classroom for security purposes.
There must be a security camera exactly where I was. Moreover, the camera should be able to see the inside of the classroom from its angle.
“Understood. I’ll check that later. I understand the situation. Now, why is Hanamoto absent?”
“I really don’t know. I’m the one who got cheated on, so we haven’t been in touch since.”
“I see. Please allow me to check your phone for a moment.”
“Huh? Sure.”
When I checked my phone—
“Hmm!?”
There were numerous notifications from Hanamoto, and most of them were apology messages.
“This is…”
“Let me see.”
I showed my phone to my homeroom teacher.
As she looked at it, her expression gradually became more stern.
“I see…the rumour spread by Otsuki, Maeshima-kun’s side of the story, and this apology messages… We should check the security camera to confirm…”
“Sensei…”
At that moment, she seemed like a detective.
Well, she is incredibly smart. She graduated from a well-known national university, after all.
It appeared that my homeroom teacher had come to a conclusion.
“Thank you, Maeshima-kun. Thanks to this, it seems that we can sort things out. I’d like to take photos of the messages just in case…”
“Yes, please go ahead.”
“Thank you.”
Saying so, my homeroom teacher took photos of Hanamoto’s messages with her own phone.
Then, after she finished taking photos, she returned my phone.
“Maeshima-kun, that’s all for now. You can leave.”
“Yes, thank you.”
I stood up, leave the student guidance room, and returned to my classroom.
What I saw when I entered my classroom was something I kind of expected.
“Hah…”
My desk has been scribbled with hateful words.
