- Chap 2: Saving a Famous Streamer - Edited
“Hello, my world! Enveloped in dazzling magic, today again, Sakurako’s broadcast of magic and smiles is kicking off!”
With such a voice, the broadcast of popular streamer Sakurako begins. The concurrent viewership has surpassed 10,000, and comments are flying by incredibly.
〈Here it comes!〉
〈My world!〉
〈Today’s outfit, isn’t the skirt a bit short lol〉
〈Hoping for an RTA rerun today!〉
Watching the comments flow on the device built into her streaming drone, Sakurako, with her pink hair fluttering, smiles adorably.
“Today, as I’ve been saying, to celebrate reaching 500,000 channel subscribers, we’re going to… not do the 100 Monster Slaying RTA!”
Reacting to that, more comments flow.
〈Don’t run away〉
〈Do the rerun〉
〈That’s sloppy〉
〈By the way, haven’t your thighs gotten thicker recently?〉
Seeing a comment that caught her eye, Sakurako shouted, her face turning red.
“They haven’t gotten thicker! It’s just my growth spurt!”
After a bit of back-and-forth, Sakurako starts walking through the dungeon.
“Today, we’re in a different dungeon than usual, the 6th dungeon in Kyoto. It’s my first time coming here, so for now, let’s lightly look around with everyone and then plan something from there—”
That’s when Sakurako notices something. A vast black hole spanned across the rock face before her. From it emerges a giant snake, over 10 meters long, with large wings like a dragon, glaring at Sakurako with its red eyes.
“…This monster looks quite strong, doesn’t it? Does anyone know what it is?”
Swallowing her nervousness, Sakurako speaks out. Reacting to that, comments start flowing with incredible speed.
〈Isn’t that a Dragonaid?〉
〈A mutant species!〉
〈Dragonaid is an A-rank monster, right?〉
〈What? Why is such a thing in the upper levels?〉
〈Sakurako-chan, run away!〉
〈It must be staged, lol〉
Seeing the comments, Sakurako’s complexion changes.
“A-rank, you’re kidding…”
While Sakurako is a beloved streamer, combat isn’t her forte. Her rank, determined by the Dungeon Association, is C; no matter what, she can’t beat an A-rank monster.
“We have to report this and run away!”
She sends an emergency notification to warn others on the same floor of the danger and starts to run. However, the Dragonaid, having fixed its sights on Sakurako as its prey closes in with incredible speed.
“Kyaaaah!”
“Don’t come any closer!”
Sakurako removes a magical wand from her item box and swings it with all her might.
“Scarlet Fire!”
“Gu-Gyaah!”
The Dragonaid is enveloped in a massive flame, letting out a scream that hurts the ears.
〈Sakurako-chan is strong〉
〈Could she win this?〉
〈It must be staged, lol〉
〈There’s no way she can win like this; run away quickly!〉
“Agyaaaah!”
Emerging from the smoke, the Dragonaid appears unharmed. Sakurako realizes she can’t win and tries to flee with all her might.
“……!”
But before Sakurako can move, the Dragonaid’s long tail strikes her body, sending her flying.
“Kyah!”
Sakurako crashes against a nearby rock, with red blood flowing from her forehead. Seeing this, the comments speed up even further.
〈This is bad, really bad!〉
〈What are the other streamers doing? Someone help her!〉
〈I’ve reported it to the Association〉
〈As if the Association’s guards would do anything!〉
〈At this rate, the dungeon will be sealed〉
〈Sakurako-chan is going to die!〉
Comments urging her to “run” and “escape” stream by at incredible speed. However, Sakurako can barely get up, let alone respond.
“…! Someone, anyone, help me!”
Desperately running, Sakurako is in the upper levels where no humans can fight an A-rank monster. Everyone is too busy protecting themselves to spare any effort to help others.
“…Ah.”
At that moment, she glimpses a young man with an intimidating gaze.
“Please, help me!”
Sakurako calls out to him with a desperation akin to grasping at straws. Unlike other fleeing streamers, this young man, Shinya, stands calmly without any sign of running away—no, there seems to be an air of composure about him.
Probably, he’s a formidable fighter.
Thinking he might be able to help, Sakurako uses the last of her strength to run towards him.
“……”
Without a doubt, Shinya is far from calm. Overwhelmed by the suddenness of the situation, he’s simply frozen, unable to think.
“…Hey, why are you coming this way?”
Shinya’s words fail to reach her as the girl and the monster approach. Realizing escape is impossible at this distance, Shinya braces himself.
“If this doesn’t work, I’m dead. Please…!”
Exhaling deeply, Shinya activates his skill.
“—Disappear.”
At that moment, a cold air spreads around them, a torrent of overwhelming power. The skill “Intimidation” affects the Dragonaid and the girl, overwhelming them.
“Gu, Gyaah…”
The Dragonaid freezes, making a pathetic cry, and looks at Shinya. Under the effect of Intimidation, it sees Shinya as a giant monster that could devour it.
“…Aren’t you going to run?”
“Kuh, Kyaaah!”
Unable to withstand the fear, the Dragonaid flees at full speed, retracing its path and disappearing through the black hole. What’s left is an eerie silence.
“That was close, glad it worked. …Wait, I might have peed a little.”
Shinya nearly says out loud but manages to swallow the words.
“……”
The girl whom the Dragonaid attacked stares at him in astonishment. Shinya doesn’t know her, Sakurako, but being afflicted with a condition that makes him crave looking cool in front of girls, he can’t help but speak in an unnecessarily cool tone.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Shinya offers his hand to the fallen Sakurako.
“Thank you so much.”
Taking his hand, Sakurako manages to stand up. Her face lights up like a girl who has just seen her prince charming, a detail the flustered Shinya fails to notice.
〈…What?〉
〈What just happened?〉
〈Driving off a Dragonaid with just a glare, isn’t that impossible even for S-rank?〉
〈Who is this guy?〉
〈That’s, like, the color of the supreme king, right?〉
〈Could it be he’s a Champion⁈〉
〈A legend has arrived!!!〉
The comments overflow. Unaware of the situation that has escalated Sakurako’s concurrent viewership to over 50,000, Shinya suggests.
“You’ve got a head injury? I can’t treat it, but use this medical kit.”
“Is it okay?”
“Yeah. You have to be careful of unforeseen situations like this. It’s dangerous.”
Having said only that, Shinya begins to walk away, his desire to look good in front of a pretty girl and his wish to avoid further attention battling within him, leaving him to depart in an unnecessarily cool manner.
“Ah, right. Try not to talk too much about this, okay?”
Unaware that Sakurako’s concurrent viewership has exceeded 50,000, Shinya makes one last request before leaving. His words only fuel the comments further.
〈Cool!〉
〈No, that’s trying too hard, isn’t it?〉
〈Who is he? A streamer?〉
〈So strong, must be S-rank?〉
〈I checked the Association’s roster, and it seems like Shinya is an F-rank streamer〉
〈F-rank⁉︎ That’s got to be a lie〉
〈He’s hiding something!〉
〈Apparently, he used to be S-rank〉
〈Whatever the case, he’s no ordinary person!〉
Comments flood in. Yet, Shinya, in his naïveté, assumes that a girl streaming in the upper levels couldn’t possibly be a popular streamer. It should be fine. He contemplates this, unaware of the storm he’s just stirred.
And watching Shinya’s back, Sakurako whispers.
“…I’ve found him. My prince.”
Shinya’s peaceful streaming life begins to crumble slowly.
