Episode 38: Sana’s Room
July 7th. Tanabata has come.
There was no Tanabata festival near our town, so we decided to enjoy it at home as usual. It was Kazuharu’s suggestion that since it was such a special event, we should enjoy it.
On the way home from school, we dropped by a 100 yen store and bought a small bamboo branch and some origami paper. When we talked about going to someone’s house to make Tanabata bamboo decorations, Sana said-
“Why don’t we go to my house? It’s the closest one.”
Sana made a surprising suggestion.
Indeed, Sana’s house was the closest to the 100-yen store. However, I thought that it would be bad for three guys to come over, but Sana didn’t seem to mind at all.
(Well, if it’s okay with Sana, it’s okay with me…..)
There was no particular reason to object, so the four of us headed straight for Sana’s house.
I was nervous about visiting her house for the first time – or rather, I thought her parents would be surprised if we three guys barged in – but Sana’s father was away on duty, and her mother was working a semi-night shift today and wouldn’t be home until late.
The fact that her parents aren’t here makes me less nervous, but that’s a bit of a problem, the serious me thinks. Sure, we’re friends, but having three guys over to a girl’s house is a bit of poor risk management, or something. No, there’s no way something like that could happen between us, but if she were to have a male friend in the future, I’d be worried if she was so lax.
(In the future…)
Is it possible that nothing will happen with me and she’ll end up having another …male friend and going out with her If so, what kind of guy would he be?
I’m not sure how to close the distance between us now that we’ve settled down as friends, but I’m not sure what I should do if some bastard comes along and ….brings her closer to himself at once.
Thinking about this, I said, “Excuse me for disturbing you,” and entered the empty house. Sana’s house was really an ordinary two-story house, just as she had said before. It might be a little big, but it was far from a mansion. It seems that what she said, “I grew up in a normal family,” was true.
“My room is on the second floor.”
She turned on the lights with a tinkle and went upstairs first. When I looked up the stairs, I almost saw the inside of Sana’s skirt, and I turned away.
In a panic, I looked at Kazuharu and Asuka, but they were sneaking around saying things like, “Hey, isn’t it bad that we’re about to enter that saint’s room?” “It’s not good for the heart, no matter how much you say you’re friends with Itsuki-san.” I was relieved to see that they didn’t seem to notice the panty shot. I was about to close their eyes
After Sana climbed up the stairs, we followed her and finally entered her room. And I was not the only one who was not thrilled by it…
“It’s an empty room, but make yourself at home. I’ll get you some snacks and drinks.”
Sana walked down the stairs.
When I looked around the room again, I found that Sana’s room was less stuffy than I expected. A bed, a table, cushions. And only a dressing table with a mirror.
(No, ….call it an empty room, but isn’t this too plain?)
It no longer has a sense of life, or anything like that. No bookshelves, no decorations, nothing. I don’t know what the rooms of the girls in my class are like, but I felt that it was too simple.
But I can smell Sana’s scent, so I know she must be living her daily life here.
“It’s a little …out of sync, isn’t it?”
“I was expecting something a little more flashy,” muttered Kazuharu.
“Well, Itsuki-san said before that she grew up in a normal family.”
“No, but, ……, with that kind of atmosphere, wouldn’t she at least have stuffed animals? She like character things a lot.”
“Well, that’s true.”
That’s what Kazuharu and Asuka were saying to each other. They seemed to have the same sense of discomfort that I had.
I just looked around the room, somewhat fidgety. I couldn’t believe that I was in the room where Sana slept and woke up every day, and at the same time I was a little disappointed that I wasn’t the only one.
“But Itsuki-san has been acting normal lately, so maybe our fears are unfounded.”
“Then it’s better.”
Asuka suddenly asked me, so I answered.
I’ve told Asuka that Sana’s condition seems to be caused by a girl’s day. Asuka was a little skeptical, saying, “I wonder if that’s true …,” but we guys couldn’t go any further if she used girl’s day as a reason. And after that, I didn’t see any lonely mood or expression from her.
I looked around the empty room, exhaled, and laid out some origami paper for decoration and some sweets to pick up on the table.
The reason we’re here today is not to tour the room. We are here to enjoy Tanabata.
But while I was preparing, I suddenly saw the bed where she usually sleeps. I couldn’t help but feel that the bed looked somehow lonely.
