- Episode 32: Bento and Strange Voices
Episode 32: Bento and Strange Voices (Part 1)
The next day at lunchtime – I went out into the hallway to go to the store as usual, and ran into Sana coming out of the Class B classroom. She had a lunch box in her hand. She seemed to be in a bad mood, and her face was really scary.
“Ah, Sana. Because the weather is fine today, Kazuharu is eating outside──”
That’s when I was about to say so.
When I thought that Sana was approaching me with her scary face, she suddenly said nothing and grabbed my arm.
“Come here.”
“What!?”
She grabbed my arm and dragged me away, just like when we first met.
“What?! Did I offend you again?”
“I said just come here!”
Sana yells at me without looking at me.
Huh? What is it, really? Are you mad that you were the first one to get killed in PIBG yesterday? No, but didn’t you look like you were having a normal time yesterday?
The status in my head is in a state of confusion, but it’s probably best not to go against Sana at times like this.
She’s still the saint of the school (formerly?) I was dragged along by the arm of the grandson of the chancellor, a beautiful blond-haired, blue-eyed girl, exposed to shame.
She took me by the hand to the rooftop and took me to a corner where the other students couldn’t see me. And then, with a bang, she slammed me against the fence (that’s a bit of an exaggeration).
Sana turned her head away with her arms crossed.
What the hell? Did I do something to get myself up on this fence again? You’re even more unaware than you were then. What the hell is Sana mad about?
As I was thinking that—
“It’s l-lunch break, right?”
Sana suddenly asks me something so obvious.
“What? Yeah, I guess so.”
Sana is still standing there with an uncomfortable and unhappy look on her face.
“S-speaking of lunch break,….you need to take a break, right?”
“Yes, I guess.”
What the hell is this conversation? I don’t know what’s going to happen at all.
“Speaking of things to eat for lunch, ….is your lunch good?”
“Hmm? Really? Some people eat bread, like me.”
As usual, Sana is having a conversation with me that makes no sense.
That’s why I have to go shopping as soon as possible. If you’re going to get hit, hit me fast. I have no idea why I’m getting hit, though.
“Ah, …yeah, right. But Kaoru-kun is going to eat lunch today. It’s not like it’s a choice anymore, it’s just ….a given.”
“What?”
Then I finally understood the meaning of the lunch box in her hand.
“Oh, are you saying that you made me a lunch box?”
When I asked this, Sana’s body trembled as if she was scared, and she turned her body to the side with her arms crossed.
“No, it’s not that I made it for you, it’s just that ….you know?”
“You just made it for me? Thank you. I’m glad.”
“No, really? It’s not like I made it all the way, just by stuffing the existing ones properly, and just making a little more side dishes for me and making them for two people. That’s why I don’t want to be over-expected … “
“No, I’ll be happy with anything if Sana made it for me.”
“Well, comeone, ….eat up quickly!”
Then she threw me a lunch box.
I couldn’t react immediately as she suddenly threw it to me. I managed to catch it, but the lunch box just touched my fingertips and fell to the floor. Moreover, it fell sideways. It made a crunching sound.
“UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!”
When Sana saw this, she suddenly spat and screamed.
“Why didn’t you take it properly!?”
“I wasn’t expecting to be thrown out of nowhere!”
“That’sssssssssssssssssssss!”
Sana was in despair as if her lover had been killed in front of her eyes.
“If you’re going to grieve so sadly, just give it to me right from the start….”
“UWAAAAAAAAAA!”
UEEEE …She finally started crying. ….What are you going to do about this? And even though we are in a corner, people are glancing at it because of Sana’s crying.
Wait wait wait. I don’t think I made the president’s grandson cry!? I wonder if this made me cry!? No, no, I’m a complete victim here!?
I thought that, but I couldn’t just leave Sana in despair like that. I drove away the people who were glancing at me with a silent glare.
Then, with a sigh, I picked up my lunch box and sat down, leaning against the fence. Sana was sitting beside me, crying. Crying.
The lunch box had some kind of juice dripping from the bottom, and it had sunk into the large handkerchief it was wrapped in.
I had a bad feeling about this, but I opened the lid quickly.
“Wow, the contents of … are in serious trouble. It’s skewed to the right….”
“Ohhhh! I woke up at five o’clock to make this, but…!”
Looking at the cruel contents, Sana let out a wail of despair.
“Wait what?….you were up at five!? Did you wake up that early to make this for me?”
“Haa…!”
Sana made a face of ‘oh no’ and closed her eyes grimly.
“Hmph! How could I wake up at five o’clock? I was asleep. Of course I made this lunch in three seconds.”
“Then you don’t have to be so desperate, do you?”
Even if I made it only with frozen foods, I don’t think I could make it in three seconds.
I hadn’t noticed that the inside of the lunch box was in disarray, but it was all Chinese food. It looks like a lot of work.
“Oh, ….the dripping of the grease and the other oils mixed together and mixing the whole…”
“UWAAAA….”
When Sana saw this, she again fell on her face in despair.
I took out my chopsticks from the chopstick case next to me (for some reason, I had a spoon in there as well) and picked up the chicken.
“The chicken was delicious. This sauce is just like in a real restaurant.”
“Right!?”
Sana looked up with a smile on her face.
“Are you happy?”
“Haa…!”
Sana again made a face that said, ‘Oh no,’ and turned her face away, closing her eyes grimly.
“It was just a coincidence! It’s a complete coincidence that I just happened to make it while I was sneezing!”
I don’t think it’s possible to make gourd chicken while sneezing by accident.
“I don’t think it’s possible to make gourd chicken while sneezing by accident, but luck is part of your ability, isn’t it?”
“Well, if it’s like this, right? It’s nothing special.”
“No, this shrimp chili is also excellent. It’s much better than the ones in Chinese restaurants.”
“Right!? No, it was just a coincidence! I was just chopping up some shrimp and it turned out just right!”
Just when I thought her face was shining with happiness, she made a face like, “Oh no,” and started making strange excuses. And what do you mean, “chopped shrimp”?
“Oh, rice is fried, isn’t it? I’m so happy. I’ve never had such a gorgeous lunch before.”
“Right!?”
“….?”
“Oh, no— not by accident, okay? I dropped some rice in the frying pan, and at the same time, all kinds of things flew into the pan and it turned out to be fried rice! The ingredients just popped out of the bottom of the lunch box, so it was just a coincidence too!”
“Is-Is that so…?”
When I ate the fried rice, which was a mixture of rice and ingredients that had sprouted from the bottom of the lunch box, I said, “Hee-hee,” and it was delicious. The reason why there was a spoon attached to the lunch box was for the fried rice.
I was grateful for the lunch that Sana had made for me at five o’clock. Though the contents of the lunch box are all mixed up and messed up.
