Click HereShirai led me through the school grounds at a leisurely pace, with no particular hurry. Throughout, she kept her arm wrapped around mine.
To onlookers, we must have seemed like more than just a couple in love, almost like a pair of clueless lovebirds.
Thanks to that, the school was abuzz with speculation about whether “that” Nayuta Shirai had gotten herself a boyfriend, and who the heck this guy was.
“Hey… is this really okay?”
“What do you mean?”
Was she aware of the situation, or not? Shirai just smiled politely, showing no signs of concern.
“I mean… there are weird rumors going around about you.”
“What kind of rumors?”
“There’s a rumor going around that you and I are dating.”
“Fufu. That’s a very funny rumor. There’s no way someone like you, Kuroda-kun, would ever be in a relationship with someone like me.”
Shirai smiled as if she were joking. Despite her expression, her words cut deep, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
“But, you know, that might actually be okay. If everyone thinks you and I are dating, it might deter people from getting too close to you.”
She implied that no one else but her should get close. It sounded possessive, like something a girlfriend would say.
“Dealing with a villain like Kuroda-kun can lead to a lot of trouble. So, to prevent anyone else from becoming a victim, it’s convenient if people misunderstand our relationship!”
But the essence of her words was something entirely different.
“The victims of Kuroda-kun’s actions should be limited to just me. I don’t want kind-hearted people to suffer because of you.”
A heart full of compassion for others. Was this the spirit of self-sacrifice, dedicating oneself for the sake of others?
As she spoke these words and smiled, Shirai held onto my arm tightly.
To me, it seemed like she was saying, “This is mine, and I won’t let anyone else have it.”
No, perhaps this was just my imagination—my desire…
Behind that pasted-on smile, I couldn’t understand what Shirai was truly thinking.

After walking around exposed to the eyes of many students, we finally arrived at the deserted back of the school building. The building cast a shadow, making the area dimly lit despite it being daytime, with high humidity making it feel damp and gloomy.
“Here, it seems like no one else will come,” Shirai remarked.
She laid her handkerchief on a concrete step that looked suitable for sitting and then took a seat herself.
Shirai patted the ground next to her, indicating for me to sit beside her. I complied, settling down next to her.
“Now, let’s have lunch. So, what’s Kuroda-kun having for lunch?” she asked.
“I’m having this,” I replied.
From the convenience store bag I was carrying, I took out a piece of pastry and a bottle of tea. It was a rather bland lunch.
“Then, I’ll have it,” Shirai declared.
“Huh?”
“It’s okay. I’m not taking food away from you to make you fast. You’ll have the bento I made,” she explained.
“What?”
“From now on, I’ll be managing all your meals. You can only eat the food I’ve cooked,” she continued.
“What?!”
How did it come to this?
“Food prepared by Kuroda-kun, a dangerous individual, could contain anything dangerous. Maybe even some dangerous dr*gs?” she speculated.
“No, this is just store-bought stuff from the convenience store. I wouldn’t put anything dangerous in my own food…” I protested.
“That’s a lie. You always take dangerous dr*gs with your meals, right? That’s why your mind is messed up. So, you’ll stop taking those dr*gs from now on,” she concluded.
While I’ve never taken any dangerous dr*gs, in Shirai’s mind, I’m apparently a dangerous guy constantly consuming them. There’s so much to rebut, but I found myself unable to argue with her views.
“Alright. But, from now on, all my meals will be cooked by you, Shirai-san?”
“Yes, that’s right,” Shirai replied, showing a clear smile as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
“All the food that enters Kuroda-kun’s mouth will be made by me. I will manage all the nutrients you consume—everything that builds your body. I think that way, even the worst Kuroda-kun will become somewhat decent,” she explained.
I was speechless. It was just too much, wasn’t it? I couldn’t find the right words to respond.
Shirai’s words and actions kept piling up. Was this the kind of woman Nayuta Shirai always was, or did I make her like this? I couldn’t tell.
The weight of the sin I committed felt heavy on my shoulders, increasing with each passing moment.
“And here is today’s lunch for you,” Shirai said, uncovering a bento wrapped in a pitch-black cloth from her tote bag. It seemed to be my lunch.
“Today, I didn’t have enough time to cook properly, so it’s just something I put together. But next time, I’ll make sure to make something proper,” Shirai said as she unwrapped the lunchbox. From the black wrapping emerged a black lunchbox, which she opened.
Inside the lunchbox was… completely white.
It contained white rice and some strange white things that seemed to be side dishes. What were those? Marshmallows? No, maybe fish paste or something? Honestly, it didn’t look appetizing at all.
“Here, say aahh,” Shirai said, picking up some rice with her chopsticks and bringing it close to my mouth, as if to feed me.
“No, I can eat by myself,” I replied.
“You’re the heartless Kuroda-kun who casually tramples on people’s feelings. You’re just going to pretend to eat and then throw away the food I made, aren’t you? I won’t allow that. I’ll make sure you eat properly,” she said firmly.
Even though I had no intention of doing anything like that, I couldn’t deny her.
I let Shirai feed me, allowing her to do as she pleased.
Surprisingly, the food she made was delicious. I never did figure out what those white things were, though.
