Chapter 51: The Promised Day
After barely—seriously barely—surviving that heaven-turned-hell moment,
The promised day finally arrived.
…Yeah. It actually happened.
Not that I didn’t want to do it with Aira or anything.
In fact, speaking as a totally normal high school guy—
I’d been looking forward to it. Honestly.
Yup. No denying it.
Even with all the nerves, I’d definitely been excited about today.
…But still.
Maybe it’s because I’m just that much of a coward…
Or maybe that’s just the kind of person I am…
I thought I was mentally prepared.
Really, I did.
But now that it’s actually here, my so-called “resolve” is already starting to fall apart.
“…”
Okay, maybe I should stop pretending to be asleep now.
Aira was snuggled up against me, her face buried in my chest.
And the longer she stayed like that, the more her chest was pressing just right against me—
Which meant that thing I finally managed to calm down before she woke up… was starting to act up again.
“…Ah, Aira. Morning.”
“Nn. Morning, Hiroto.”
“U-Uhh… Should we, um, get up?”
I had a ton of things I could’ve said to her—
But she just greeted me like everything was totally normal.
So I tried to casually sit up in bed…
But then—wham!
Aira grabbed my shirt with both hands and held on tight.
I couldn’t move at all.
“W-What is it?”
“The promise.”
“O-Of course I remember! I totally do! B-But… don’t you think it’s kinda weird to do that first thing in the morning? Like, we literally just woke up.”
“I don’t think so.”
…Welp.
She really doesn’t think so, huh.
“R-Right. Okay. But see—just because you’re okay with it doesn’t mean I am, alright?”
“…Are you breaking the promise?”
“—N-No! I’m not breaking anything! I said I’d keep it, and I will. I swear.”
“Really?”
“C’mon, you know I’d never lie to you.”
“…Okay. I’m ready anytime, you know? I’ve been looking forward to this… for a long time.”
“Y-Yeah, I know. A-Anyway—for now, let’s just… get up, alright?”
“Mm.”
Like I said earlier—
It’s not like I wasn’t looking forward to it too.
I mean, come on—why else do you think I spent the past few days resisting all of Aira’s nonstop teasing?
It’s all been for today.
Today is the day.
…I’m fine. I’ve got this.
I definitely psyched myself up for this… probably.
Even if I was a bit shaky earlier—no problem. I’m good now.
With that pep talk looping in my head,
I finally sat up—this time for real—
And got out of bed together with Aira.
Then the two of us walked into the living room like it was no big deal.
Nee-san was already out of the house,
So we could hang out without hiding anything.
“I was thinking of making breakfast—well, lunch, technically. Got anything you want to eat?”
“If Hiroto’s making it, then anything’s fine.”
“Alright then, I’ll whip something up.”
“Mm.”
Normally, when someone says “anything’s fine,” it kinda makes things harder.
But with Aira, I knew she really meant it.
If I was the one making it, then anything would be okay with her.
That’s exactly why I could answer with confidence.
So, in between Aira hugging me and occasionally helping out here and there,
I finished making breakfast—
Well, technically, lunch.
And hey, not to brag, but I think I did a pretty decent job.
“That was delicious.”
“Glad you liked it.”
“…So, when are we doing it?”
“……We just ate, though.”
“But if we wait too long, that Nee-san might come home, you know?”
“……………You’re not wrong. …Alright. One hour. Just one more hour, okay? In an hour… we’ll do it. For real.”
That’s what I said.
…Yep. I actually said it.
Not like I regret it or anything.
I love Aira—not as a daughter, but as a girl.
So there’s no reason to feel guilty.
No reason to hesitate anymore.
“Promise?”
Aira leaned in close, snuggling up against me,
Looking up with those big eyes as she asked.
“…Yeah. I promise.”
“Yay. I’m really looking forward to it. You’ll teach me everything… okay?”
Even though she’s small in so many ways,
She somehow gave off this mature, seductive vibe as she tilted her head and said that.
And seeing her like that—
After being tempted for days—
After holding myself back all this time…
I finally gave in.
I leaned forward and kissed her.
