The Assassin Girl Who Stayed by My Side in Another World… Somehow Followed Me Back to Modern Japan - Chapter 48: Promise
Chapter 48: Promise
By lunchtime, I was already heading up to the rooftop—
Which, at this point, had pretty much become my usual spot.
Technically, it’s supposed to be locked and off-limits… but that hasn’t stopped me in forever.
“Ai—”
I didn’t even get to finish calling her name before Aira opened the rooftop door for me.
Well, yeah.
Ever since we came back to this world and started going to school again, we’ve been having lunch up here every day.
So of course she knew.
“Hiroto.”
“Hmm? What’s up?”
Instead of answering, Aira wrapped her arms around me.
Even tighter than usual.
Not in a suffocating way or anything.
It just felt… really cute.
“I just felt like doing this. …Is that not okay?”
“No, I’m happy too. So yeah, it’s totally fine.”
“…I love you.”
“…Wanna eat lunch?”
And just like that, the two of us had our lunch—being extra lovey-dovey the whole time.
Just like back when I was still trying to convince myself she was just my daughter, we were sharing chopsticks again.
But now that all those awkward feelings were gone, everything tasted way better than usual.
I mean, it’s not like I hated it before or anything.
But let’s be real—sharing chopsticks with your daughter? That’s kind of a lot, right?
…Then again, even between couples, this kind of thing only happens when they’re really close.
Not that I’d know.
But if Aira’s okay with it, then I’m more than happy to keep things just like this.
And now, here I was… standing in front of a convenience store.
Aira stood right beside me—well, invisible as always.
…Man, what do I even do?
Right up until I actually got here, I was totally set on buying, uh… protection.
But now that it’s crunch time, I’m kinda… chickening out.
N-No, seriously—what am I doing?
It’s not like Aira and I have definitely decided we’re doing anything today.
So why am I freaking out just from trying to buy this stuff?
Come on, get it together.
This is right in front of my girlfriend, y’know?
If I can’t even handle this, then what the hell am I doing?
With that thought, I took a deep breath, stepped into the store, and bought the condoms—
Doing my absolute best to keep a straight face the whole time.
…Honestly, the clerk probably couldn’t care less what anyone buys.
But still, when you’re the one buying it?
It’s seriously nerve-wracking.
Especially if it’s your first time.
“That’s the… protection thing? For doing it?”
Just as I stepped out of the store—heart pounding like mad, even if I didn’t show it—
Aira asked in a tiny voice from beside me.
Still invisible, of course.
“Yeah. That’s right.”
“Then… does that mean we can do it when we get home?”
“…Well, Nee-san might come back in the middle of it, so… maybe another time.”
“…Hiroto, do you not want to do it with me? Do you not like me?”
“W-What!? No! That’s not it at all! Of course I like you. I… I really do want to.”
“Then… let’s do it?”
“—”
Maybe it was because there weren’t any people around anymore,
But Aira dropped her invisibility and appeared right in front of me—
Tilting her head, looking all sweet and clingy… while totally trying to seduce me.
…Way too cute.
“F-Fine. B-But let’s wait for the next day off… four days from now, okay?”
Yeah, that was totally just an excuse.
But the thing about Nee-san maybe coming home in the middle of it—
That part was definitely true.
So I went with that.
Nee-san usually hangs out with her friends on weekends and doesn’t come home until late anyway.
“…Alright. Then it’s a promise, okay?”
“…Promise.”
Aira gave a small nod, though she looked just a little pouty about it.
…Guess I’d better start mentally preparing myself over the next four days.
