The Abandoned White Magician’s Tea Life - Chapter 63 : Tea Life at the Detached Palace
Chapter 63 : Tea Life at the Detached Palace
Amalia’s role was to provide tea for Alphonse when he went into battle at some point. Alphonse seemed to be inspired to restore his own honor, and the ingredients for preparing teas delivered to Amalia’s room were always well stocked.
After all, brewing tea was fun! Besides, the tea she just brewed for practice was being served to Juana and Lorenza and the others, all of which have been well received.
Incidentally, whenever she brewed a cup of tea, Braulio would always come out of nowhere and stick his hand into the cup of tea to measure its magic power. As usual, Amalia felt her stomach ache every time the tea was violated. In the end, he still leaves generally satisfied, saying, “The magic is stable this time,” or “I can feel the strong power of the earth attribute,” which was a relief.
When making tea, she was grateful that Juana, who was good at flame magic, could make a fire so she could easily boil the water.
“Hah—really, your tea is delicious, Amalia-sama! As His Highness Alphonse says, I cannot even match it!”
“I love the tea Juana brews for me, and in my case, I just happen to be able to pour the magic into it, so I don’t think the taste itself is any different.”
Amalia smiled at Juana as she sipped her tea and took a breath. Amalia was happy to be praised for her skills, but she had learned her tea making skills from the orphanage director, not from a private tutor like Juana.
“Juana is very refined and beautiful, even down to the way she makes the tea. I can’t imitate her.”
“No, that’s not true. Even Amalia-sama can manage to do it with practice.”
“Excuse me, Amalia-sama.”
Juana said heatedly, as Lorenza entered.
“I just received feedback from the guards about the tea. They said it warmed them up and was very tasty.”
“Well, it’s my pleasure. Thank you, Lorenza-san.”
Lorenza replied with a genuine sincerity, “There is no need for Amalia-sama to thank me,” still she couldn’t help but smile.
Since the tea was not brewed only for Braulio’s measurement, a good amount of tea was naturally produced. Since it would be a waste to taste it only by themselves, Amalia decided to share it with the guards and others after obtaining permission from Alphonse.
When they first offered it to the others, they looked at her with blatant disapproval, but they reluctantly took a sip, perhaps because Juana and Lorenza had persuaded them of the deliciousness of Amalia’s tea. Then everyone began to comment on how delicious it was and how sorry they were for doubting her.
“It’s only been three days since Amalia came, but we’re all completely captivated by her tea.”
“I see…then it was worth making.”
At Juana’s words, Amalia responded with a smile.
After all, it was worth making if someone drinks it with relish. Alphonse does not seem to be interested in the taste of Amalia’s tea itself, but the maids and guards said it was delicious, and their attitudes softened at once when they recognized Amalia’s skill.
“It may seem strange to say this, but…we are thinking that working in a Detached Palace may not be so bad if Amalia-sama is around.”
“Eh…is that so?”
“Yes, that’s right…Everyone here is also quite tense. If I offend His Highness Prince Alphonse, I don’t know when I will be transferred to the new position. Even if you do your best in your service, His Highness will not praise you or thank you, but will only drag you down with his reputation, and you will not be able to rise in the ranks…the moment you are assigned here, it is as if the road to promotion is closed.”
…seems to show how unpopular the Detached Palace work position is, that they would say so much about it.
Normally, they would not complain in the face of their masters; Alphonse and Esmeralda, but they must be so embarrassed that they cannot do without revealing what was on their hearts.
‘…if you have me, you can do your best at work, huh?’
It was a great feeling to know that someone needs her and was depending on her
“…I’m sorry. I still want to go back to Polk.”
“Yes, of course I know…the person who gave you that brooch is also in that village, isn’t he? He must be very important to you.”
At Juana’s kind words, Amalia nodded her head.
The brooch that Leonardo had given her as a birthday gift was also to be brought to Kyros. When it came to white coral and pearl ornaments, she was prepared for them to be confiscated, but Lorenza wisely reported that “that was a forgery of little value,” which saved it from confiscation.
Since Alphonse might say something about wearing it on a regular basis, she put it in a box that Juana prepared for her and kept it in a safe place. Juana also said with a smile, “Let’s take it back with you when you return to the village.”
…she doesn’t know if she can really get back to Polk.
Even Juana and her friends were considering the possibility that Alphonse would keep Amalia for the rest of her life.
“…yes. He’s very important…no, I love him.”
“Well…! I see you are not married yet, and are you a sweetheart?”
“No, no. I just realized it, and I don’t want to lie about my feelings any more, so…well, we’re not lovers yet. But he is very dependable and nice…and someone who I want to be by my side all the time.”
“Reliable…then is that person a guild mercenary or something?”
Juana is quite perceptive. When Amalia nodded, Juana pondered for a moment and then giggled happily.
“I see…then perhaps someone important to you, Amalia-sama, could come to your aid.”
“I’d love it if they do, but…wouldn’t Juana and the others be in trouble if they did?”
“What do you think…you might be able to hook me up with a cup of tea like any other time, but if Amalia-sama is gone, I don’t think His Highness will be able to speak very strongly about it. He only reported you to His Majesty as “one of the servants to accompany the expedition”, so if he panicked because “one of the servants” was no longer with us, His Majesty would be suspicious.”
Juana and the others are following the orders of Alphonse and the others, since they belong to Detached Palace, for the time being.
But she is right, Alphonse has arranged for Amalia’s presence to be kept out of the public eye. So even if Amalia were rescued by Leonardo, he would not be able to lead an army to get her back.
Juana giggled happily and looked softly into her eyes with a cup of tea in one hand.
“I am sure that Amalia-sama will be fine. We will do our best to protect her, and if something should happen―― we will do our best to make sure it is the best path for her.”
“…is that really what you want? After all, if we were to go against the will of the Lord of the Detached Palace, you would not be safe either.”
“I’m sure we’ll be fine. Instead, Amalia-sama should put her safety first…the blaxk magician Braulio-sama is more troublesome than His Highness Alphonse. While you’re in this room, we can protect you with our magical powers, but once you’re in Braulio-sama’s territory, we cannot compete with him.”
Swallowing hard, Amalia looked down at her empty cup.
‘…yes, that’s right. If I want to meet Leonardo and Yugo, I can’t keep worrying about others.’
She’s very happy, not only did she be able to establish her tea’s prestige in the Detached Palace, she was able to get information with her tea as well.
