Chapter 14 : Premonition
“Thanks for your hard work, Mom. Did it go well?”
While she was sitting on the chair, the door to the living room opened and Yugo peeked out. Amalia had asked Yugo to wait for her in the living room after he brought the chair.
Yugo said, “If any strange patients come in, I’ll crush them myself!” So he seemed to be waiting patiently in a separate room. She only hoped that such a thing would not happen.
Amalia, who had been a little distracted, sat up with a start.
“Yes, it went well. We’ll have to wait until next time to get paid, but when we do, we’ll buy Yugo whatever he wants.”
“I don’t have anything in particular that I want… but I want to drink the tea that mom makes, so I want you to buy some tools for that.”
“Oh, is that fine?”
“Un!… Mom, I’m thirsty. I want to drink tea.”
Asking Yugo to clear away the chairs, Amalia headed to the kitchen.
‘Yesterday’s tea was a bit bitter and pure, so I think I’ll try a blend today.’
She lined up the three cans and stared at them.
It seems that the tea she made yesterday was a little bitter for him. So today, she’ll use more of the sweetest and most floral of the three, and mix in some sour tea leaves for extra flavor.
‘Oh, that reminds me, I still have some herbs left over from yesterday’s meal.’
Last night was the first time Amalia had served him a home-cooked meal. It was chicken bones baked with potatoes and herbs, and bread from the general store, so that the carnivorous Yugo could eat it. He gobbled up the chicken, saying, “It’s delicious”.
It was so cute to see Yugo eating the meat with his hands all sticky, so she gave most of the meat to him and Amalia ate only the potatoes. While Amalia left the bones in her plate, after eating the meat, there was nothing left on Yugo’s plate.
There must have been some of the herbs left over from that time.
“Oh, it smells like yesterday’s food.”
“Yes, the smell of herbs, to be exact.”
When Yugo came into the kitchen, he seemed to notice the distinctive smell of herbs.
“This herb is called Murum, which I roasted with the chicken and potatoes yesterday. It’s a little too strong to make tea with it, so I’ m only going to add a little of it today for flavor.”
Just like yesterday, after saying, “I’ll do it!” He filled the kettle with water and put it on the stove. In the meantime, Amalia mixed two kinds of tea leaves and a few Murum leaves, soaked them in water, and ground them.
Murum has a plain appearance and often grows secretly in the shade. They are usually found in shady places, so you might not notice them until you smell them when you pass by. They have a strong smell even when they are still growing, and the smell could be enhanced by grinding them.
Pouring the boiling water into the pot with tea leaves, she then counted the time with Yugo. Because of the nature of the tea leaves, she let the tea steep a little longer than yesterday, and then added a few drops of Murum juice. The leaves of Murum are dark green, but the juice is yellow, so the tea in the pot seems to have a slightly lighter color.
“Here you go. I think it’s sweeter than yesterday’s, but what do you think?”
“It smells good.”
When she handed him the cup, Yugo sniffed it and drank it in one gulp. She had been wondering since yesterday, whether the inside of a dragons’ mouth is as tough as their scales.
Amalia also enjoyed a cup of tea with Murum’s juice, but suddenly noticed that Yugo on her lap had stopped moving. He was holding the empty cup in both hands and not moving a muscle.
“What’s wrong? Maybe it didn’t taste good?”
“…ah, yeah, it’s sweeter than yesterday’s and the smell of Murum seems to make my head feel better. It’s just―”
Yugo looked down at the few drops of water that remained at the bottom of the cup. “No way… no, but maybe I’m just imagining it…?” He mumbled in a lower voice than usual.
‘…what is it? Well, if it’s not bad, then is it good?’
…
In the first few days after Amalia began her treatment with white magic, people from Polk came only sporadically. However, it seems that the rumor gradually spread, and after about half a month, more and more people started coming to consult about their daily life, not only those who were obviously injured, but also those who said that they were not feeling well or had trouble sleeping lately.
Amalia was a white magician, not a doctor. So anything other than what can be cured with white magic honestly falls outside her field of expertise.
She made sure to inform everyone of this, and began to provide consultation over a cup of tea. They knew that Amalia was not a doctor, but they all seemed to be relieved just to have someone with a bit of medical knowledge listen to them, and most of them left after drinking the tea, saying that they felt better.
‘…but it’s also quite fun to make a cup of tea with the other person in mind.’
When she is not using her white magic, she entertains guests with her specialty, tea. The other day, Bruno ordered a set of dried herbs for her, and she was happy to have a wider range of tea blends to choose from.
“Oh, yes. The merchant should be here in the next day or so, so I’m thinking of asking him about tea sets.”
Amalia, who was shopping at the general store with Yugo, heard Bruno’s words and her eyes widened involuntarily.
“What?…! Are you sure?”
“Well, it will be difficult to get them to bring it to you right now, but if you order it, they will deliver it to you. Everyone says that the tea Amalia makes is many times better than the tea I make myself.”
“It would be my pleasure. I’ll be counting on you.”
After Amalia and Yugo had left, Bruno suddenly looked at the homemade calendar on the counter and squinted at it.
“…Ah, it’s that time of year already. I wonder if that brother will come again this year.”
His mumbled monologue did not reach anyone’s ears.

Translator’s note :
I don’t know if Murum herb is true or just a fictional herb made by the author, but I tried to search it for pictures. But I can’t find any. If you guys have an idea on what it is, then tell me about it! Thank you! 🙂
Editor’s note:
Fictional. As the author said, it looks like Rosemary, which means it is based off of Rosemary, so here is a picture of Rosemary.
T/N: My Editor answered it already~ Anyway, enjoy the chapter!
