Chapter 45: The Abandoned Prince and the Sudden Surprise
“Unit One, taking off!!”
“Unit Two, taking off!!”
“Unit Three, taking off!!”
One after another, massive shadows raced down the runway and soared into the sky.
I stood on the deck below, watching them rise into the air.
“So? What do you think of the newly formed Sea Wyvern Knight Squadron?”
“Incredible. That’s really the only word for it. It’s breathtaking.”
“Fufu. I felt the same way the first time I saw it.”
The one laughing beside me was a tall beauty with striking red hair—Rosemary.
Right now, or rather for the past month, I had taken a break from school and come to the sea.
Endless blue sky and ocean stretched around us. And somewhere far in the distance, a white sandy beach shimmered under the sun.
Not that I was standing on a beach or anything. No—the place I stood now was far more impressive.
I was standing on the deck of a sea-going wyvern carrier, slicing across the wate
Yes, you heard right—a wyvern carrier.
Compared to normal ships, this one was much longer, and had massive runways built along both sides. It looked kind of awkward with its strange design.
Because it was a hybrid sail-and-magic-powered ship, the sails and huge magical engine sections couldn’t be removed.
So where do you even put the runways needed for wyverns to take off?
Simple—just slap them on the sides.
That’s how the wyvern carrier—also known as the dragon mother ship—came to be.
Yelona apparently helped with the development, but she gets really bad motion sickness, so she wasn’t here today.
The whole project actually started from a random conversation I had with Rosemary.
I casually mentioned aircraft carriers from my previous life, and she got really interested.
The Empire threw all its technology into the project and built it in record time, deploying it in the war against the Kingdom of Agarham.
In the naval battles, the wyvern carrier completely dominated the skies, giving the Empire total air superiority and allowing them to fight with a huge advantage.
It’s not an exaggeration to say the ship played a major role in their overwhelming victory.
That said, the way it’s used isn’t exactly perfect yet.
Apparently, a bunch of military strategists are now deep in research, trying to figure out the best ways to make use of it.
Thanks to all that studying, the new Sea Wyvern Knight Squadron was officially formed.
And today, I asked Rosemary—well, begged her, really—to let me come and watch their training drills.
Why?
Because I can’t stand being at the academy right now!! The girls won’t stop staring at me!!
Ever since the whole girls’ dorm incident, I’ve been getting a lot of looks from female students.
Some even started coming up to talk to me out of nowhere, or just straight-up tried to push me down.
One of them was really cute, and… well, I ended up sleeping with her.
But that’s when things spiraled out of control.
From that day on, girls started showing up at my room every single night.
I could barely sleep, constantly being devoured by one girl after another.
At first, I was like, “Harem life is the best!!” and it honestly felt like a dream come true.
But it got way too intense, and I finally decided to take a break from the academy.
That’s why I came out here to the sea.
…Though, truth be told, there’s another reason I came—
“Lord Reyshel! What do you think? Of my fleet!!”
I turned toward the voice—and standing there was a beautiful blonde with elegant, curly drill-like hair.
She was once my fiancée, back when I still lived in the Kingdom of Agarham.
Her name was Eliza.
Now, she served as the commander of the newly formed Sea Wyvern Knight Squadron.
It had been a while since we last saw each other.
Apparently, she tamed a wild, aggressive wyvern through sheer force and joined the knight squad. Her strength was said to rival none other than Rosemary—the strongest of the land-based wyvern knights.
Rosemary of the land, Eliza of the sea.
Lately, there’s been talk in Agardramoon about who’s stronger between the two.
It’s become something of a hot topic… or maybe just a rumor, depending who you ask.
“Eliza, you really are amazing.”
“Fufu, but of course~!!”
Eliza beamed with pride when I praised her.
Meanwhile, standing beside me, Rosemary puffed her cheeks just a little, clearly not thrilled.
“That said… in terms of tactics, you’re still a bit inexperienced. That’s probably the downside of only operating wyverns on land until now.”
“Oh my~? My subordinates are quite capable, you know. It won’t be long before they surpass the land-based wyvern knights~!”
Eliza’s bold challenge made Rosemary twitch an eyebrow.
The Sea Wyvern Knight Squadron was still brand new—not even six months old.
Meanwhile, Rosemary’s land-based squad had existed for much longer.
Naturally, that meant the land knights had way more experience and battle know-how.
So hearing Eliza talk like they’d surpass them in no time must’ve hit Rosemary right in the pride.
A daring smile crept onto her face.
“…Hou? I accept that challenge. Why don’t we hold a joint training exercise soon to settle which force is superior—land or sea?”
“Perfect! And how about this? The winning side gets a full day of sexy time with Lord Reyshel~!”
“I’m in.”
And just like that, they were using me as the prize again.
Should I say something considerate like “Please don’t fight over me!!”?
…Nah. Honestly, seeing these rare expressions from my wives made me kind of happy, so I decided not to say anything unnecessary.
It’s not like I’m thinking about how nice it’d be to have a passionate night with whoever wins…
It’s not like I’m secretly looking forward to it because the winner usually gets really intense…
Not. At. All.
“Lady Rosemary!! An urgent message from the Prime Minister!!”
“Hm? Understood.”
Right then, Rosemary picked up a magical communication device handed to her by a subordinate.
If it was marked urgent by Olga, the Prime Minister… it had to be serious.
I watched Rosemary carefully, and her expression grew more and more grim by the second.
“Rosemary?”
“…We’ve got a bit of a situation.”
“Wait, what kind of situation are we talking about?”
“…Some of the nobles have raised an army. They’re rebelling against the country.”
“…What?”
A rebellion…?
This came out of nowhere.
Total blindside.
