Chapter 15: The Abandoned Prince Detoxes Alcohol
“Alright, ladies and gentlemen!! It’s time for the very first Groom Battle Royale!! Imperial Seventh Princess Rosemary VS Kingdom’s Duchess Eliza!! Hosting today’s match is none other than myself, the Fifth Princess Yelona!!”
Yelona shouted into a microphone, her voice booming across the arena.
Today, she wasn’t wearing her usual work clothes.
Instead, she was dressed in a sharp, tailored suit, complete with a bowtie—looking every bit like a professional referee.
Because of the snug fit, though, her chest was putting in some serious work.
The buttons on her shirt looked like they were on the verge of popping off, and the gap between them left very little to the imagination.
Definitely some quality eye candy.
The imperial capital had a large arena, and thanks to magical projection, anyone could watch the match from anywhere in the city.
Basically, it was like a magical live broadcast system—
And apparently, Yelona was the one who invented it.
Seriously, the empire’s technology was way ahead of the curve.
While I was thinking that, Yelona suddenly turned toward me.
“So, Reyshel—what’s your prediction for today’s match? As both the commentator and the grand prize!”
“Don’t call me a prize! Also, why am I doing commentary? I figured that was your job.”
“Well, you looked bored, so I figured I’d put you to work…”
Yelona chuckled and said, “Let’s move on to the next person, shall we?” before casually holding the microphone toward the person next to her.
“And now, let me introduce today’s guest—Second Princess Ailynn, who lives by the motto: ‘Alcohol is Life!’”
“Yaaay~! They said they’d give me free drinks if I showed up, so here I am~. Hic!”
Ailynn, the so-called guest, was already completely drunk.
Then again, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her not drunk.
The smell of alcohol coming off her was intense—she’d probably been on a multi-day drinking spree.
“Ahahaha!! The world is spinning!! There’s so many of me!!”
“…Should I be worried about how drunk she is? Maybe I should just… detox her?”
“Oh? You can actually do that?”
“Well, technically, alcohol is a type of poison. So yeah, I should be able to.”
So, I reached out and used Perfect Regeneration to purge the alcohol from Ailynn’s system.
And surprisingly—
“…Ah, um, hello.”
“What!?”
“Huh!?”
“Um… yes. I’m Second Princess Ailynn. Thank you for the introduction, and I look forward to today’s match.”
Ailynn turned toward the magical recording device—basically a camera—and gave a polite bow.
Wait… was this really the same person!?
“Uh, hey, Yelona… what’s going on here? Is that what Ailynn’s like when she’s sober?”
“I—I had no idea!! Now that I think about it, she’s always been drunk! This is my first time seeing her sober!!”
“Ah… um, I’m sorry. I’ve been drunk for about… 500 years. I must have caused a lot of trouble for my family and my brother-in-law… oh, wait, should I say father-in-law?”
“Hold up—why is she suddenly so cute!?”
Sober Ailynn had a completely different vibe.
She gave off this delicate, refined aura—like an actual princess.
Fragile and soft, like someone you’d instinctively want to protect.
Also, hearing a slightly older woman call me father-in-law? Yeah, that hit hard.
“I know drinking too much is bad for my body and my mind… But I could never really convince myself that I was worthy of being Mother’s daughter. I kept drinking to distract myself from that feeling… Mother always tells me to do whatever makes me happy, but even that just makes me feel guilty…”
Ah… I see.
So that sharpness she always showed toward Alcarion—it was actually her way of expressing love.
It all made sense now.
“Ugh… Just thinking about the future is making me feel like I’m gonna throw up…”
“Wait—somebody get her a drink!!”
“Yes!! Big Sister needs alcohol!! She’s too pitiful like this!!”
After downing a large amount of alcohol, the usual drunk Ailynn made a triumphant return.
“Gulp—Pwah!! Alright!! Big Sis is gonna give it her all with the commentary today!!”
“Well, after that little shock, it’s time to start the main event!! Let’s welcome our fighters!!”
At Yelona’s cue, two stunning women walked out from the east and west entrance gates.
From the east side—representing the Empire—was Rosemary, the captain of the Imperial Dragoon Knights and the Seventh Princess.
From the west side—representing the Kingdom—was Eliza, the prodigy magician.
“By the way, just how skilled is this genius magician? What do you think, Reyshel—the grand prize?”
“Stop calling me a prize. …But as for how skilled she is…”
It was hard to answer that question.
“The tricky thing about Eliza is her combination of high magic reserves and output speed, which rivals that of an elf. On top of that, her tactical judgment is spot-on. She can fire off the most effective spells for any situation at incredible speed. So you’d think the best way to deal with a mage would be to close the distance and prevent her from casting—but she also happens to be the best swordswoman in the kingdom. She’s an all-rounder who’s dangerous at both long-range and close combat.”
“Hmm, I see. And what about Rosemary?”
“Ah… sorry. I’ve only ever seen Rosemary fight while riding a wyvern. So I don’t really know how strong she is when fighting on foot.”
“Ahh, I see!! Actually, I don’t know her true strength either!! That girl has always been obsessed with wyverns!!”
“Huh. So no one knows how this is gonna turn out.”
As Yelona and I chatted about it, the gong signaling the start of the match echoed through the arena.
Rosemary’s weapon was a massive two-handed greatsword—
It was bigger than me—and she swung it around like it weighed nothing as she rushed in to close the distance before Eliza could cast a spell.
Her raw power and speed were overwhelming.
Eliza, meanwhile, held a rapier in one hand and kept trying to create distance, striking and retreating to avoid Rosemary’s blows.
She was probably reinforcing herself with body enhancement magic—her movements were just as fast as Rosemary’s.
But Rosemary was still faster.
Closing the gap with astonishing speed, Rosemary swung her greatsword with full force.
“Ohh!! Rosemary seems to have the advantage early on!!”
“But if she keeps moving at that pace, won’t she run out of stamina pretty quickly…?”
“Ah, nah, she’ll be fine. Rosemary could sprint at full speed for an entire day without even getting winded.”
Ailynn casually chimed in from the side.
…Now that she mentioned it, I had noticed that Rosemary never seemed out of breath.
Even at night.
“Then Rosemary’s got this match in the bag, right?”
“Hmm… not necessarily. That Eliza girl, right? She’s up to something. Rosemary’s power and speed are top-notch, but she’s a bit too straightforward. She’s not good at handling tricky tactics.”
“—Look!”
“Whoa!!”
Eliza suddenly cast an earth spell, collapsing the ground beneath Rosemary’s feet and throwing her off balance.
But Rosemary recovered almost instantly.
However—
In that single instant, Eliza had already finished preparing her next spell.
An ice spear barrage—
It was the kind of high-powered magic used to take down massive monsters.
“Ohhh!! Eliza just launched a full barrage of ice spears at Rosemary!!”
“But Rosemary isn’t backing down!! She’s cutting down every single one of them!!”
Eliza’s overwhelming barrage of ice spears was impressive on its own—
But Rosemary was just as insane.
I mean, who the hell smashes ice spears with a greatsword—and with her bare fists—like it’s nothing?
Any normal person would’ve been skewered in seconds.
But Rosemary calmly walked through the storm of ice spears, steadily closing the gap toward Eliza without slowing down.
That sheer, unstoppable presence… honestly, it was kinda mesmerizing.
My wife is seriously the coolest.
“Whoa!! Eliza is unleashing another wave of attack magic!! Even Rosemary is being forced to stop—!! Reyshel, you need to cheer for her!!”
“Wait, Yelona—you’re pressing against me—”
“Ah…! M-My apologies. I got a little too excited.”
Yelona’s… generously sized melons were pressing into my arm.
It definitely threw me off for a second.
Rosemary and Eliza’s battle was a fierce back-and-forth exchange that raged on for several minutes.
But—
It ended abruptly.
Rosemary’s greatsword snapped—
And Eliza’s mana ran out at the exact same time.
