ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Rick, fortunately, seemed to be outdoors and outside the quarantine zone.
『I’m vacationing at a villa in the Maldives. Just took the bike out for a spin and was about to grab lunch.』
“Can you send me your location?”
『Just sent it. Here it is.』
I checked the address from social media and opened the map app.
“Ui, can you jump there?”
“Hmm… Yeah! It’s not in the quarantine zone, it’s outdoors, and the area is pretty open, so I think I can make it!”
“Good! Rick, I’m sending someone to pick you up. Let them bring you here!”
『A pick-up? Whoa, Brother, didn’t realize you were nearby. I was about to take a photo to make you jealous—WHOA!? What the hell is with this bunny girl!?』
“I’ve arrived~! Okay! Hop on the bike, quick! We’re mid-chase right now!”
『Right now!? Seriously!? Brother! What the hell is going on!?』
“I told you, we’re in a crazy chase. Hurry and get over here.”
『Haa, damn. You really work your people hard, Brother. Fine, but don’t forget—next time, I’m the one working you to the bone.』
“Bring it on.”
I ended the call, climbed onto the roof of the car from the window, then pulled out a crowbar, a vinyl umbrella, and a measuring tape, readying for the incoming threat of Big Ape Junior.
“Alright, get ready, Everyday Items Master! Today’s your death day!”
The Wolf King raised his minigun. Big Ape Junior charged toward us at full speed. We were already flooring the accelerator on this giant road, and so was the Wolf King’s car. The massive safe being dragged behind scraped violently against the ground.
However, Big Ape Junior still had plenty of energy.
“We’ll open with a big one! Hit ’em with it, child of the Mountain King!”
“GRUAAAAAAAH!”
Big Ape Junior accelerated rapidly, closing the distance with ease. He smashed a nearby building, grabbed a huge chunk of rubble, and hurled it at us.
“This is bad, really bad! Aniki! Can you block that!?”
“I don’t know, but I’ll try.”
“Aaanikiiiiiii!”
I readied the closed umbrella and the measuring tape. Then I read the situation carefully. Big Ape Junior’s movements, other environmental variables. I took a deep breath. Big Ape Junior threw the rubble. The massive chunk came straight for us.
“Onii-sama! It’s coming, Onii-sama!”
“Aniki! We’re counting on you, Aniki!”
“Aaaaaaah, my life is over! It’s all over!”
The three passengers screamed. I kept my focus—and exhaled lightly.
“Yeah. My first prediction was right.”
A distorted, bass-heavy sound—a warp in the air. A motorcycle carrying Rick and Ui burst out of the rift and smashed the rubble to bits.
“Hahaha! Brother! Long time no see! It’s been a few months! How have you been, my beloved bro!?”
“Waaaaaah! So fast! I’m scared~!”
Ui, nearly in tears, teleported from the bike to behind me.
“Ui, good work.”
I said, then turned to the now parallel Rick on his bike.Rick. Blonde American guy in sunglasses. Today he showed up in an aloha shirt.
“Nice! That was perfect, Rick!”
“Told ya! For me, that was a pre-lunch workout!”
“If we shake this chase, I’ll cook you a proper homemade lunch.”
“Looking forward to it, Brother! Nothing on Earth compares to your cooking!”
Rick and I laughed together. Meanwhile, the Wolf King fumed behind us.
“Wha—no, no no no, Vehicle Master! You too!? You’re standing in my way too!?”
“Huh? …Oh! You’re the guy from the last chase! Hey Brother! You know you’re supposed to finish the job, right? Burn the body, crush the bones, and scatter the ashes at sea. That’s the proper way.”
“I know! I plan to do it right this time!”
“GRRRRAAH! Damn it! Why are two Master Skills trying to kill me!?”
The Wolf King turned red and gnashed his teeth in fury. He ordered Big Ape Junior
“Kill them! Child of the Mountain King! Slaughter every last one of them!”
“GRUAAAAAAH!”
Big Ape Junior accelerated again, gaining on us. Rick glanced back and muttered.
“So that mini demon is the main event, huh?”
“Yeah. It’s a bit too much for us, so I called you.”
“Hahaha. Worried about me, the King of Driving? Well, okay, last time I brought a car built just for escape—bit of a misstep.”
Rick grinned.
“But this time, I just happened to bring one of the best battle bikes I own.”
“Oh?”
“What’re you two smug bastards yammering about!?”
The Wolf King readied his minigun and opened fire.
“Here we go.”
I lay flat on the roof of the car and opened the vinyl umbrella. A storm of bullets rained down on me—and the umbrella deflected them all. The impact through the umbrella felt far less intense than before. Maybe my Skill Level had gone up? The vibrations felt like regular bullets now.
Clinging to me, Ui began to cry.
“Kyaaaaah! Tacchan’s side is scary tooooo!”
“Ui, get back inside the car. Stand by so you can escape with Luna if things go south.”
“Okay…!”
Ui disappeared through a teleportation warp. I noticed Big Ape Junior was closing in. Just a little more and he’d be within punching range. I looked at Rick—he was already moving.
“This morning’s shaping up to be pretty exciting!”
Rick angled toward a nearby building and used a bump to lift his bike. The bike tilted, going into a wheelie, then touched the wall.
And then—Rick rode straight up the wall.
【Wall Climb】
“Hahaha!”
He shot up the building, flipped midair, and launched himself into the sky. So high that the enemy lost sight of him. The Wolf King was too focused on me, and Big Ape Junior was only tracking the car.
Rick’s ambush hit perfectly.
【Sky Assault】
“GRUGYAAAAAAAH!?”
Big Ape Junior’s face was shredded by Rick’s front tire.
“Here’s a bonus!”
【Jump Spin】
Somehow, Rick used the bike’s lateral spin to punch Big Ape Junior square in the face. Caught completely off-guard, Big Ape Junior reeled back and toppled, sliding away.
“Rick! You’re the best!”
“Told you, Brother! I am the best!”
Rick landed cleanly and kept pace with the car.
“Damn it! DAMN IT! You useless freak! Get up already, you failure!”
The Wolf King stopped firing and screamed. Rick glanced his way.
“So, we just gotta take out that gang boss before the mini demon catches up, yeah?”
“Ah…Sorry. Actually, there’s one more target. More my responsibility than yours though.”
“Seriously? Who?”
I looked ahead. At the end of the road, atop a tall building, stood two figures.
“Ah! It’s the Mountain King’s kid we let get away!”
“Ugh… Nii-ni was right. It wasn’t a lucky chance at all. We should’ve just stayed and cut off the route…”
“Shizuku! It’s a mess, but it’s still a chance! Besides, I’m sick of running around! Let’s end this!”
Two girls in jet-black uniforms. Black hair in low ponytails, one streaked with red, the other with blue. The twin sisters.
“Hah. Just as expected. I figured Koufukuji-ani wouldn’t fall for a bait like this.”
I smirked and jumped. Gliding down with the umbrella, I landed on the huge safe.
Then I shouted.
“Rick! Tag team time! Our target is to crush the Wolf King! Watch out for those twins—they’re way tougher than they look!”
“This is getting more fun by the second, Brother! Let’s do this!”
The car sped on. The safe scraped behind and just as we reached the building—the twins made their move.
