Chapter 1-48: Tail Following on a Date
“Hey, Rafio, what does it mean to cross the line?”
“Oh? Well, that’s…”
“Like kissing?”
“Yeah, that’s it. It’s something you can’t do unless you’re lovers.”
“Those two are dating, right? I’m kind of envious!”
“They’re not dating. Besides, you’re too young for love.”
“That’s mean! I can fall in love too!”
“Sorry to keep you waiting!”
We didn’t wait that long, but Aina had changed clothes neatly and tidied up her messy hair.
“Short hair is convenient for times like this. Now, let’s go!”
“And what are we going to do?”
“If they get into a dangerous situation, we’ll interrupt!”
“You should let them do what they want. Besides, why do we have to follow them?”
“Help me out!”
“Come on, Rafio. It sounds fun. Let’s go together?”
“These magical girls are hopeless. I’m the only sane one.”
When the three left the house, they saw Yuuma and Haruka from the hallway.
They had just boarded a bus.
“How do you plan on following them?”
“We’ll transform. That way, we can easily catch up with the bus.”
“Using magical girl powers for such a trivial reason…”
“Light up! Shiny Saber!”
“Destruction! Shiny Hunter!”
“These guys are something else!”
“It’s crowded. Well, it is Sunday after all.”
“Hard to believe there was a monster here a while ago with all these people. Rumor has it that the magical girls praised this place, so its fame has increased.”
“No way.”
Saber’s praise had an effect.
###
“First, let’s look for clothes. I want a new skirt.”
Naturally, my eyes went to Haruka’s skirt.
She already has one.
“I want a new one!”
“I see.”
It’s her personal wants. I should respect it.
She had explained before that skirts make it easier to see her problem and get some help.
If it’s easier to see…
“Shorts like Tsumugi-chan’s might be good too.”
“That would suit you better.”
“Really? If Yuuma says so, maybe I’ll try it.”
She moves her missing left leg a lot, maybe out of habit or to draw attention, making it hard to know where to look sometimes.
“Hehe. I’d like to do matching outfits too.”
“Don’t do that.”
We’re not lovers. Even if we ever become that it would be cringe.
###
Rafio and the others were tailing Yuuma and Haruka’s date from a distance.
They had, of course, transformed back, and Rafio was still held by Tsumugi.
From a distance, they might look like sisters out shopping on a holiday, or maybe a child accompanied by an older relative. The age difference wouldn’t suggest a parent and child.
And Rafio looked like a stuffed animal being hugged by the younger sister.
It’s strange for an older elementary school student to walk around with a stuffed animal though. Rafio’s feelings on this didn’t get through.
“They look like they’re having fun.”
“Yes, they do. Hey, Rafio, shall we go to the pet shop later?”
“No. Any animal you cuddle would feel sorry for itself.”
“Geez, Rafio, you’re not being honest.”
“I am honest. I’ve always been honest.”
“I’ll buy you some pudding later.”
“Really!?”
“You really love pudding, don’t you?”
Aina looked at Rafio with a slightly exasperated tone. At the same time, it seemed like she was looking at something endearing.
Maybe she was smiling at him for accompanying them on this tailing mission driven by her personal feelings. Or perhaps it was their childlike interaction.
“Of course. There’s nothing as delicious as that.”
“Then I’ll buy you lots! So let me cuddle you.”
“Well…”
“You don’t seem to dislike being cuddled if you’re really hesitating.”
“Of course, I don’t…ugh!”
“Geez, Rafio, you have to pretend to be a stuffed animal properly!”
“Then treat me more gently. Or let me be in my human form.”
Rafio’s protest still didn’t get through.
“Come on, you two. Let’s go before we lose them.”
“We’re not playing. I’m always serious.”
###
“What do you think? Does this look good on me?”
“Ah, I can’t tell. But I think it’s cute.”
“Which one do you like better?”
To be honest, I couldn’t tell the difference.
In the store for young women’s clothes, Haruka showed two skirts of the same color and length. Apparently, there’s a difference.
Looking closely, I could see the design difference, but I couldn’t tell which would suit Haruka better.
I have little interest in my own clothes, let alone women’s fashion, so asking for my opinion was a struggle.
“Geez, it’s no fun window shopping with you, Yuuma.”
“Sorry. I really can’t tell.”
What does it mean to have fun choosing clothes? Is that a thing?
“You should take more interest in things around you.”
“Maybe. It’s not that I have no interest though.”
“Have you ever cared about fashion or cooking?”
“No.”
“I see. Then let’s start there. Eat delicious food, wear cool clothes, and enjoy life! You have good build and face, so if you wear nice clothes, you’ll definitely be popular.”
“Really?”
“But don’t get too popular with girls!”
“Which is it?”
“I’m going to try these on, so Yuma, give me your honest opinion!”
“Hey. Answer my question.”
Haruka disappeared into the fitting room, laughing cheerfully.
I wonder how she tries on clothes in a wheelchair. She’s skillful and her one leg moves normally, so she can probably manage just fine.
