Since my Useless Working Sister and Other Troublemakers Became Magical Girls, I have no Choice but to Support Them. - Chapter 1-35: The TV Crew
Chapter 1-35: The TV Crew
I glanced back. Liner was using Saber’s arm as a springboard to jump as high as possible.
She didn’t reach the crow Fear-Eater. Even if she did, it would probably evade her.
“Why don’t we find a new magical girl who can do long-range attacks and have her transform?”
“Do you think we can conveniently find someone with the right aptitude, ask them to transform, and get their consent?”
“There are people who would agree.”
It’s true that I hesitate to find such people among the reporters, streamers, or onlookers.
People like them don’t hide secrets, which could affect our lives. That’s Rafio’s concern.
“Tsumugi can be contacted quickly.”
“Don’t even joke about that. Oh, look, the media’s here.”
I saw a white van parked beside someone’s property. A man carrying a large camera and a few others got out.
There was also a woman in a suit, likely an announcer. She wasn’t wearing the black suits Aina wears every morning but a bright white one that added a touch of glamour.
It must be a TV crew.
“Hey. The interview can wait. Get out of here. It’s dangerous.”
Rafio landed in front of the car to warn them. Naturally, since their job is to convey the truth to the public, they didn’t stop easily.
Come on, listen. The man who seemed to be the director said something like that. Under his direction, the camera and microphone were pointed at us.
“Can we ask you a few questions? How are you involved in the recent monster incidents?”
“We cooperate with the magical girls to defeat the monsters. We fight to protect people’s peace. Thank you for publicizing the magical girls’ efforts. But it’s dangerous, so please film from a distance. Interviews can wait for later.”
Is he really planning accept an interview later? It might indeed be useful for publicity.
But right now, that’s not the priority.
“Look out!”
I noticed a shadow above me and looked up to see the Fear-Eater diving towards us.
Whether it was aiming at me or the media crew, I didn’t know. It was coming our way.
Saber and the others might not make it in time. So, I grabbed the arm of the announcer holding the microphone and pulled her while shouting for everyone to get out of the way.
Rafio also reacted immediately to my words, stepping back with me on his back. Naturally, the announcer was pulled along too. The sharp beak struck the space where she had been just a moment before. That was close.
The other TV crew members also stepped back in fear. They were definitely feeling the terror.
The Fear-Eater, seeking more fear, let out a cry and thrashed around. It flapped its wings noisily and targeted the man pointing a camera at it.
“Are you two okay!?”
Saber ran up a moment later, aiming to strike the enemy while it was within reach.
The Fear-Eater immediately tried to fly up to evade. Saber’s sword only managed to inflict a minor cut on one of its legs.
“Not yet!”
Saber jumped onto the roof of a nearby car to continue her pursuit. It was the car the TV crew had arrived in.
The Fia-Eater moved slightly faster, quickly ascending out of Saber’s reach. But it kept its eyes on Saber, its enemy.
At that moment, another magical girl launched an attack from an unexpected direction.
“Ha!”
Liner, with her newly sprouted glowing left leg, leapt from a nearby rooftop and kicked at the Fear-Eater.
Her kick hit the crow’s body, turning its roar into something closer to a scream of pain.
But it wasn’t enough to bring the Fear-Eater down.
Unlike the Fear-Eater, which managed to control its posture in the air, Liner had no means of flying. She fell to the ground, landing gracefully.
The Fear-Eater returned to the sky.
“Look at this! Right now, women claiming to be magical girls are fighting a monster!”
“Are you serious? They’re broadcasting live.”
I heard the announcer’s excited voice. From a TV perspective, they couldn’t afford to miss filming something like this.
“Uh, what should we do? Should I introduce myself?”
Saber casually asked me a question. I should praise her for not mentioning my name on live TV, but this wasn’t the time for such leisurely things.
“Uh, hello! I’m Shiny Saber, a magical girl!”
“Tell them to get out of here.”
“Everyone! Look up!”
Liner, who had a better view of the situation, spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear, interrupting Saber’s introduction.
I thought the Fear-Eater might dive at us again, but that wasn’t the case.
Positioned at a height beyond our reach, the Fear-Eater flapped its wings strongly. In the next moment, several black feathers flew toward us.
The hard tips of the feathers headed straight for us.
I quickly realized that this was a method for the distant enemy to attack us. Approaching us meant risking a counterattack, so it switched to this method.
Maybe it hadn’t used this attack before because directly attacking with its body would instill more fear, and the number of feathers was limited.
“Run!”
I jumped off Rafio and grabbed the arms of the announcer and another staff member, pulling them away.
Rafio, using his massive body, also pushed a man out of the feather’s path. Saber and Liner, after a moment of considering defense, immediately chose to evade.
We hid behind the TV crew’s van. Looking out cautiously, I saw several feathers stuck in the ground.
